I've been back a couple of weeks now after returning from a very rare week in the sunshine and it seems an age ago now! I packed myself and the kids off to Lanzarote. Now that they are twenty and eighteen I felt this might be the last time, for a while, that we'll go away for a whole week together just the three of us.
Bearing in mind this was the last week in March it was a little surprising to me that, after boarding, we had to sit and wait our turn for the plane to be de-iced before we could fly! The snow was rapidly falling and the delay was increasingly growing. I began to wonder if we would ever see the sun again!
Luckily, we eventually got going and had a really smooth flight. The sun was awaiting us in Lanzarote…temporarily. It began to rain almost as soon as we disembarked! Were we cursed? Was the bad weather following us? Luckily no. The rest of the week was glorious!
We rented a really lovely villa, which allowed us to feel we were in a 'home from home' rather than more restrictive, separate hotel rooms. We had fresh fish often and met many of the local cats who also appreciate the local seafood! It was just so relaxing not having to watch the clocks at all.
Our villa had its own pool so we were very silly and bought lilos and a boat! Just seemed like fun and something we wouldn't have been able to do in a shared pool.
All in all a great holiday where we didn't do all that much except hang out together, enjoy the sunshine and feast on some gorgeous cuisine.
It was lovely to come home as I had a friend house-sitting for me who also looked after Tedward Fotherington-Smythe and Bert, the children's little teds I recently gifted them. For more about Ted & Bert please look at my previous blog. You can see they were delighted to have us back home again! Another of my friends bought the welcome home card you can see in the background! They are Steiff bears too, hee hee! Adorable.
Although it is always nice to get away, it's always great to come home and I'm also now really at home when back in touch with all of you on screen, on the blog and on twitter!
I hope sunnier times are now reaching you. We're finally getting some brighter days here in the south so let's hope there'll be no more snow until winter!
