Fun and games at Lauren’s 21st Birthday

Debbie, Lauren and Brad

First thing to tell you this week is that Lauren’s 21st party was a success! The weather just about held out – apart from a tiny bit of rain in the afternoon, we were lucky and by the evening, the sun even shone. The inflatables went down a storm too – in particular the gladiators ring!

Seeing my relatives and Lauren’s friends bashing the heck out of each other with foam battering rams was a sight to behold! I had a go myself but in a best out of three I'm sad to say my niece Becky beat me soundly. I blame the podiums myself – they twist round! Hehe… someone’s got the footage so I’ll put it on YouTube at some stage. But Brad also had a bash at Lauren – guess who won?

We also had a smashing retro space hoppers race or two – it was so funny. And of course my girl looked beautiful and had a lovely video montage made for her by her boyfriend Ben – it included pictures of her growing up and becoming a grown up I'm so proud of. I’ve decided to share the moments with you as we all watched the video for the first time. There was a tear or two I can tell you.

Belly dancer In the evening of her actual birthday the next day (Monday 6th) Lauren had a little retail therapy at Westfield Mall in Shepherd’s Bush, then we met up with Brad and his girlfriend Cari, and experienced the joys of a belly dancer at a Turkish restaurant.

The kids did their version – sitting down, admittedly! Neither have the ‘show-off’ gene in them.

Yes, she did try to get me up to dance, but no, I didn’t succumb – I resisted as the kids would have been too embarrassed – but if I ever go back again…

The rest of this week has flown by. I’ve enjoyed my time off just being at home and tidying up, post-Lauren! She’s gone back to uni now, in Bath, for her final year, so peace and quiet reigns supreme once more. Now another major-tidy-up begins – no rest for the wicked!

    Hi Debbie,
Sounds like a wonderful birthday if ever I heard of one! You have a great family & certainly know how to have fun! I hope Lauren has a successful final year. It certainly is a hard old slog. Not long for her now though! Glad you enjoyed your week off.
    Take care,

Christina – no probs – glad to give you a glimpse of my lovely daughter’s party!
Pauline – I was just finished uni, training to be an accountant, having got degree in finance, then in the September I did a three month course at the National Broadcasting School in London, all about how to be a radio presenter – in the days before CD’s – that dates me a bit! lol. Then I worked in accounts and landed a job at a cable company doing their bookeeping, and it turned into the start of my broadcasting career – in the early days of the Screen Sport cable channel in Cheshire. Good times!

Just found this news article on the BBC website, part of 25th anniversary of the broom cupboard.
I was a bit too old to be watching Children’s TV back then in 1986 but had a younger brother who watched!

morag – thanks for that! Yes I did feature in the Children’s BBC 25th anniversary celebrations! I was indeed the first girl in the broom cupboard and took over from Philip for three months in total, then my pal from Piccadilly Radio, Andy Crane, moved in, when I went off to have Brad! Good times….!! 🙂
