I just wanted to share some exciting news with you – if you love beautiful jewellery, you are going to adore a new range launching here at QVC on the 26th of April. It’s the Elizabeth Taylor Jewellery Collection, a stunning range of fashion jewellery inspired by the much loved actress’s own personal collection.
Although she lived in the U.S. for many years, Ms Taylor was born in London, always remained a citizen of the United Kingdom and held a UK passport. In 2000 she was awarded a damehood by the Queen, and she always had a strong connection to the UK and felt it was truly her home.
She was, of course, admired around the world for her beauty and award-winning film career, but Elizabeth Taylor also had a superb eye for jewellery, and her impressive collection was auctioned by Christies after her death. It was one of the largest ever auctions of a personal collection, and achieved record-breaking sales figures of over 130 million dollars.
Our range, which has already launched to great acclaim at QVC in the U.S., includes a selection of beautiful pieces and also a glossy hard-backed book, which tells the stories behind the jewels and contains exquisite photographs of the actress – a must if you are a fan.
I’ve loved reading about some of the most famous pieces – number one has to be her 33 carat diamond ring, known as the Krupp Diamond, a gift she received from Richard Burton. Our collection includes a ring inspired by it, and believe me, it’s a showstopper (see the picture below)! In the book, Elizabeth describes the deep Asscher cuts as “so complete and ravishing…like steps that lead into eternity and beyond”.
We also have the ruby collection (see the picture above), including a necklace inspired by the ruby and diamond piece third husband Mike Todd gave her when she was pregnant with daughter Liza. Elizabeth had been swimming in the pool at a villa near Monte Carlo on a perfect summer day when Mike presented her with a red leather box. When she opened it, she said the necklace “glittered in the warm light…it was like the sun, lit up and made of red fire.” She put it on, plus the matching earrings, shrieked with joy, and leapt back into the pool, pulling Mike with her. Swimming in rubies and diamonds…why not!?
Very excitingly, the man who is going to be joining us to talk though the collection is Tim Mendelson, who was Elizabeth’s personal assistant for over 20 years. Tim says he shared both the “wild times and quiet ones” with Elizabeth but that jewellery was always present. I know he is very much looking forward to sharing this range with us all, and we can’t wait to welcome him to QVC.
My show will be at 2pm on Tuesday the 26th so please join us then!
Love Jackie x
