The delights of renovating your home in winter

Hi everyone,
Hope you're all well and keeping warm in the last few days of a cold spell.
Well, maybe it's just me who thinks we're going through a cold spell, but I do have good reason.
Back in November we started major renovation works in the house (seemed a good idea at the time!). As I write this I'm sitting in my living room with my coat, boots, scarf and fingerless gloves on (obviously other necessary garments as well!!).

Chilly nights with gas fires and takeaways

The reason being yesterday we started to have a new central heating system installed. As always, although we were assured that hot water and heating would resume late afternoon, we are now approaching our second night of huddling together round the tiny gas fire with a takeaway. The kids think it's great! My youngest, Jonathan, especially loves it because he gets to go to bed with a hot water bottle.

We also have builders on the roof doing a loft conversion. Due to problems with our water tank being moved etc (at least that's what they told me), last night, as well as being frozen we had the joy of water pouring through the living room ceiling. Talk about adding insult to injury.

Yes, I know. Everyone is saying we should have waited until spring/summer. I know people who have had much worse experiences and really, the guys are fantastic. So am I just feeling sorry for myself? Probably. Am I looking for sympathy? Definitely!!!

Anyone else having building work done?

The work is not due to finish until Easter, so if anybody is going through or has been through similar scenarios, please drop me a line and we can sympathise together. (That's just another term for having a good old moan!!)
Watch this space

Love Anne x

Hi Ann – Watching you today I heard you say that you go down to Lamezia often and read on your blog that you have a house there. I am at present buying in Capo Vaticano with both of my grown up Sons, so that we can all have a hideaway in wonderful Italy. I am very impressed that you are learning Italian – well done. You never know we may meet one day on a plane going to Lamezia. – Margaret
