The Amazon Fire HD 10 is the big daddy of the Fire tablet range. Slates this large seem to be a bit rare and mostly there seems to be a plethora of 8” versions.
If you’re after a home tablet or among the lucky few to get a seat on the train every single morning, this tablet is very thin and light. It’s just 7.7mm thick and weighs 432g. That’s 5g lighter than the iPad Air 2. It is perfect for watching films and TV.
The Amazon Fire HD 10 is a widescreen tablet, with a 16:10 aspect and although I initially thought this was an odd shape and not perhaps as useful as the more familiar 4:3 that I am used to, but the reason for its format became abundantly clear when I watched a film or some TV. The entire tablet becomes your screen and with a battery life that appears to be quite exceptional, there was a lot of this going on at home.
We have just recently signed up to Amazon Prime and apart from getting free next day delivery; you also get access to their Amazon Video (which was the main reason for signing up). As soon as you log in to your account the tablet sets everything seamlessly and you have access to all the films, TV shows and streaming music. The Amazon Fire HD 10 has really very good speakers and music sounded great.
My kids were particularly taken by the ease of use and its battery life (and they certainly put that to the test). Games seem to be great on it and whilst I haven’t tested any of the ‘Office’ type functions I can only imagine that they will be slick and straight forward.
