Let us be the first to bring you news of our latest exciting beauty venture. We’ve been working away, compiling an ingredients guide to all your favorite beauty products, and we’ve called it The Periodic Table of Beauty Elements! Clever, right?
The list of ingredients that can be found in products can sometimes seem like a particularly tricky (and dull) science class. What are these ingredients, and what do they even do? Do we even care?!
Well… we should, because these ingredients are designed to do specific things. Whether it’s moisturising dry skin or softening fine lines, each element is there for a hard-working reason, so we’ve taken some of the most common ones found in your favourite products, and, with the help of our beauty expert Alison Young, laid it out.
Does your favourite serum contain collagen? Find out exactly what it’s there to do. Want soothing properties in your night cream? Browse our ingredients table to find which ingredients to look out for. Easy!
When the time came to film our expert teacher-extraordinaire Alison in action, we went along to see just how knowledgeable she is and get any behind the scenes gossip….
Where: St. George’s Hospital, University of London
When: 8.30am sharp
Who: Apart from ourselves, there was Rob the producer, Dave and Jason the camera crew and Chris and Vina from the Digital Media team
8.30am: Arrive clutching coffee and croissants, and we’re shown to the lab we’re going to be filming in
9.10am: Alison immediately gets into a deep, ingredients-based conversation with Chris, while the crew and cameraman begin setting up
9.55am: A quick brush up on her notes and a sound check for Alison…
10.05am: Bunsen burners are at the ready and Alison goes off to get changed
10.15am: Make-up time! In true-to-expert form, Alison whips out her compact and gives herself a speedy make-over
10.30am: And we begin filming, with lots of laughs, shouts of ‘Cut!’…
… and even some emergency hairspray loaned to Alison from producer Rob (no, he was not ridiculed in the slightest…)
He became quite the hair stylist…!
And we were done!
