Discovering technology from my past

WeightsHello!

Well done if you guessed last week's 'just for fun' guess the picture. Weights!

The Easter holidays are upon us. Have you banned yourself from chocolate? If so, don't worry, I'll eat some on your behalf… in fact, I'll eat plenty on your behalf!

If you've stayed in touch with my blogs over the years you will know how we are forever tidying and clearing in the Brook Sinclair Spectrumhome. Look at what I recently came across! My old Sinclair Spectrum and the iconic Horace Goes Skiing game! This must be at least 25 years old. I think it's fabulous and have put it on display. It's amazing to think the games were loaded by cassette and the controls were the rubber keys on the qwerty keyboard. I eventually received a joystick to connect. I've no idea where that is? Other games included Jet Pac, Manic Miner and Hungry Horace. Brilliant! What was your first computer? What games do you remember? I'd love to know.

And how technology has moved on. I'm typing away on my wireless keyboard which is connected to my iPad via Bluetooth. The photos were sent wirelessly from my camera to the iPad and then emailed to my fabulous colleague, Katherine, who very kindly works her magic and puts the blog together for me.

25 years ago, if I heard the term internet I'd have mistaken it for my Dad saying 'in-the-net' – thinking he'd scored a goal or caught a fish!

I wonder where we'll be in another 25…? Teleport maybe? Holidays on the moon? I'll book a ticket right Guess the picaway for a room, with a view, overlooking a crater please :-)

Do stay in touch on Twitter, I love hearing from you, I'm @mecharliebrook.

Here's this week's guess the picture… and now, some chocolate :-)

Take care,

Charlie x

    Hi Charlie,
    I hope you are well.
I sent a message a couple of months ago enquiring if there were any plans to design a piece of jewellery in memory of the lovely Amica for the breast cancer care event.
The pendent that Alison designed is lovely and was so popular, I’m sure that a pendent for Amica would be a just as successful as so many viewers loved Amica. Maybe the wording “Always in my heart” could feature as that would be applicable to everyone who may have lost a loved one.
Amica was always so happy and like a ray of sunshine when she was on QVC so maybe a Sun pendent or sunflower pendent would be nice.
Maybe you and Alison could design something together as I know that you were both very close to her and miss her dearly.
Please let me know your thoughts.
    Love Jacqui XX

    Hi Charlie.
It’s nice to know we’re not the only ones constantly sorting out stuff in our homes. We helped to clear out my parents loft last year and a treasure trove of all our childhood toys was discovered. There’s a lot of memories in childhood toys and as I can’t bear to part with some of mine ( if you’ve seen Toy Story 3, you would understand, that movie breaks my heart every time I watch it), I take them to work with me once in a while (I’m a nanny) so my goddaughter can enjoy playing with them.
My first memories of computer games was waiting hours for the games to load on my uncle’s Atari. They would take ages to load up and would either be ready when you had to go to have dinner, or not load properly, so all that time was wasted.
How technology has moved on in a short space of time!
    Have a great Easter weekend!

Hello Jacqui and thank you so much for being in touch.
What a lovely idea which I will certainly suggest. Thank you.
As I write this I still struggle to believe Amica is no longer with us. She was a dear, dear friend and is forever missed by me and so many of my friends, colleagues and viewers.
Thank you again for your kind words.
    Warmest wishes
    Charlie

Hello Bonita, what a lovely trip down memory lane with the Atari!
I love toy story, it’s one of my all time favourite films. I even have a buzz, woody and slinky from when the first film came out! I remember how so many stores were struggling to keep Buzz in stock!
    To infinity….. And beyond!
    Best wishes
    Charlie
