What a lovely week! The weather has been fantastic, my new greenhouse has arrived, we celebrated the 12th anniversary of my garden shows on QVC and I visited a lovely QVC viewer who made a whopping bid on our Breast Cancer Care evening for me to look around her garden.
I met Diki (pictured with me, left) and her husband, Douwe, a few days ago. They live in a rural idyll in a charming house that they share with Charlie, their madcap dog, and, appropriately enough, quite a few Charlie Bears bought from QVC.
Diki has the makings of an amazing garden. Sometime previously, a keen gardener must have lived there because there are a few very choice plants including a yellow tree peony and a marvellous beauty bush (kolkwitzia) fighting for space in the borders. I suggested a good clear out, an annual mulch of the borders with some well-rotted manure and some planting of choice perennials, like Geranium Roxanne, around her pink roses.
Other news this week. I was delighted to see that a poll of readers of 'Which? Gardening' voted QVC as one of the their top ten garden retailers. Elsewhere, in 'Amateur Gardening' they report that an enterprising gardener has built a greenhouse from 1000 recycled two-litre plastic bottles. As their headline says, he’s got a lotta bottle!
