Tabitha Roberts

Tabitha RobertsWell finally I received some photos from my Mum of her kitten Tabitha – she looks really cute doesn't she? I wonder if you recognise the cushions in the background?

She is great company for my Mum but apparently the other day she was in the 'dog house'!! Mum had made a sponge cake and sandwiched it together with jam and cream. She had left it on the kitchen table, but covered it in clingfilm and then tucked a teatowel around it, before going off to her dance teaching.

She got home to find that Tabitha had managed to remove the teatowel and the clingfilm, which trust me is no mean feat as my partner Chris can attest to after it took him a good ten minutes to get into a cheese sandwich she wrapped up for him on one occasion! She had licked the icing sugar off the top of the cake and some cream from inside… oh dear, Tabitha was not very popular as you can imagine!

Tabitha RobertsIt reminded me of the time Daisy worked out how to open the kitchen door at our old house and tore the plastic wrapper off the bread I had just brought home from the supermarket and was about to put away. Oh well, at least it was wholemeal LOL!! I can't believe it is nearly 4 years since we lost Daisy but then time does seem to fly as we get older.

Tomorrow and Saturday we will be celebrating the 14th anniversary of Kim & Co fashion on QVC. Fourteen years, it hardly seems possible, and the range is still so popular. Kim has a wicked sense of humour both on and off air and those of you who have watched our shows together will know we have a running gag about our respective heights.

Tabitha RobertsI am also presenting a Tiffany Style Lighting show tomorrow. Hurrah! I haven't done the show in absolutely ages and I am a huge fan of the range, so much so that they are Chapter 29 in my book… no prizes for working out why!

Speaking of which, I am off for a few days from tomorrow to do some more writing – I am up to 60 of the 100 chapters now so hoping to get another 10 done before I'm back for the Kipling TSV next Thursday.

See you then, love Julia xx

    Hi Julia.
Your Mum,s kitten Tabitha is gorgeous, I love tabby cats, she looks to have lovely even markings. She also looks to be a very inquisitive little minx, and I had to laugh about the cake (sorry Mum could not help it) at least she left you some. It is when they get up to things like that when you need to be there with the camera. Never a dull moment with an animal in the house. If she gets fed up with her there is plenty of room in my house. Thank you for the reminder that Kim is on again, must watch her. Will be watching the Tiffany Lighting, love their lamps, the work that goes into them is unbelievable. The favourite one that I have is the Peacock. I dont think I ought to watch Kipling as I have to many of their bags, maybe just a little look wont hurt. Hope you have a good rest and get your writing done, you have done well with that.

What a clever girl tabitha is!!lol Reminds me of a story about one of our cats blu. One christmas we were boiling a large gammon joint in a pan on the hob, the joint was so large we could not put a lid on the pan, so thought nothing of it and let it boil away. On coming back into the kitchen a few minutes later we found blu perching on the edge of the stove chewing away on the side of the gammon!! the gas hob on full and the water bubbling away!! i dont know if blu was lucky for not burning himself or getting the gammon all to himself!! lol

    Hi Julia
Thank you for sharing your Mum’s photos of Tabitha, she’s gorg-e-ous! I’m afraid I don’t mind photos, but am terrified of cats, mainly because I’m allergic with asthma and if they claw me I come out in red lumps!
It’s a real shame, but did I tell you about the cat that jumped on my back? Chris and I went up to the cemetery to see Mum and Dad and whilst I lent over to clean the weeds away from the stone I felt something brush against my trouser leg, thought it was Chris, that was until something landed on my back….I screamed in fright, stood up and a black cat jumped off! My heart pounding, I went looking for Chris, who had gone back to the car for some cloths and the cat followed me down the path, luckily, Chris was on his way back, so I got the keys off him and sat in the car whilst he finished off. Silly, I know, but it really spooked me, it was only a cat, but being black and in the cemetery…
I did reply to your previous blog and also on Claire’s, but I think the QVC Gremlins have struck again, maybe something to do with the changes to the graphics etc. Hopefully this one will get through.
Enjoy your Tiffany Style Lighting show later, will be watching!

    Hi Julia,
I forget to mention in my earlir reply, the cushions remind me of Tom and Tabitha Kittens by Beatrix Potter, I can remember my daughter having the book, I believe we still have it somewhere.

    Hi Julia
Tabitha looks adoreable I’m sure your mum will have losts of pleasure and fun with her. Our next door neighbours cat died on Sunday and they came through to tell me I was absolutely devasted you don’t realise how attached you get to them and he wasn’t even mine. His name was Pat and he always came to my back door and I would give him scraps of food, he was 17 years old and I would often bring him into my house and my neighbour would come looking for him and I’d have to say Sorry I was just about to send him through – NOT I will miss him so much and he wasn’t even my cat.
Hope Sophie’s well and can’t wait for the Butler & Wilson couture show I do hope you are presenting with him. The both of you are so FAB to watch.
    Luv Angela & Samantha

Hi Julia, how beautiful Tabitha is, she looks so much like my own cat Moon who passed away last year at the tender age of around 19 we think? He was a stray and we loved him dearly.I said I couldn’t have another as I was upset when we lost him Guess what we now have another stray Hettie who is deaf, sh..e is beautiful. Good look with the rest of your book. Claire xx

Oh Julia, Tabitha Roberts is soooooooooooooo cute! Her antics with the sponge cake puts me in mind of last Christmas Day. Dinner was at ours and Chris’ mum brought a home made trifle for tea time. Casper and Suki disappeared off upstairs not long after dinner for their siesta! I took the trifle out of the fridge as I was making some sarnies at tea time. We were all sat in the lounge having just finished a sandwich when Casper strolled in looking very pleased with himself (but don’t they always!!), sat in front of the fire and started washing himself. Being a cat lover, I’m sure you’ll agree just how endearing it is to watch them washing their faces …. over and over and over again he went!!!! Never having had cats, Chris’ mum and Nan are not familiar with the wily ways of our feline friends and so proceeded to ooohhhhh and aaaaahhhhhhhh over what he was doing. (He’s referred to by them as ‘their grand cat”!!!) Of course it soon become clear what the source of his delight was when I went in the kitchen to dish up the trifle! He’d consumed about a quarter of the cream and custard. I served the rest up any way, and never said a word!!!!!!!
    Love as always

if i had been lucky enough to have had a daughter i would have called her tabitha, but all my children (boys) and their girl
friends tell me it is a cats name
and now julia has confirmed that for them.
Seriously though i still hanker for a tabitha in the family, may
be i will be lucky enough to get a grandaughter called tabitha
    one day.
i read in a national paper, that tabitha is a posh name and
often found in waitrose on a saturday afternoon, must tell my
    sons that one.
oh well if all else fails i may have to get a cat, but i do not
    think our dog will approve.

    Hi Jean
You are funny – one little look at Kipling won’t hurt!!!!!!!!!
Tabitha is beautifully marked but as you say she has an inquisitive streak. And she is cheeky – she taps on my Mum’s bedroom window every morning around 7.15 to come and have a cuddle. Problem is no-one told Tabby the clocks went back!! I am wondering what Poppy will make of her if Mum brings her next time she comes to visit?
Hope you enjoyed Kim’s anniversary and the Tiffany lights show?
    See you Thursday

Clever but naughty Blu! Wasn’t there any way you could have cut round the bit she had been chewing?? That would have lasted her for weeks surely? She was lucky not to get burnt.

    Hi Carole
You were spot on with the cushions – I have a pair too! What clever dogs to eat the chocolates off the tree and not disturb the wrappers. Funny thing is I always buy chocolates for the tree and at least half of them are still there when we take the tree down on twelfth night – there are just so many other yummy things to eat.
Hope you enjoyed beauty day – more beauty with the Elemis TSV on the 20th November – the smell of the handcream is DIVINE!!!!!!!

    Hi Annette
What a shame you are allergic to cats – they are wonderfully independant but needy when they want to be!
OK, I’m a cat lover but the black cat episode would have scared me too.
Did you like the fish lamps on the Tiffany show? – it’s a good job they sold out otherwise I would have had two and that would have ruined Chapter 29 in my book ( and I already have a Chapter 31 ).

Hi Angela ( and Samantha of course )
I am so sorry about your neighbours cat, that’s the problem with becoming so attached to our animals – when we lose them ( even if technically they are not ours ) it’s devastating.
Sophie is doing really well. We are trying to co- ordinate writing back to you to thank you for the parcel. Do you believe in coincidences? Wait until you get our letters!
Yes I am doing the Couture show with Simon and REALLY looking forward to it.
    Look out for our letters

    Hi Jess
It’s not holiday, it’s my normal schedule. All of the full timers at QVC ( Presenters that is ) do a four day week, so I do eight days out of nine on air and then I get a five day break every two weeks …… unless they ask me to swap or do overtime that is!
It’s been an interesting few days off – tell you more in my next blog!

    Hello Claire
Well at least Moon reached the grand old age of nineteen – quite something for a cat. Tabitha also resembles my lovely Daisy who unfortunately wasn’t quite so lucky in terms of longevity! Sounds like Hettie has fallen on her feet with you – you obviously love cats.
Thanks for the good wishes for my book – I will finish it by the end of the year even if I have to burn the midnight oil more often than usual

    Hi Marian
I just knew where your story was going ….what a naughty Casper! I am hoping that neither Chris’s Mum or Nan read my blog otherwise your secret is out and they won’t be coming to yours for Christmas tea again – very funny though, and you are right, cats never seem to hide from what they have done wrong, unlike dogs who skulk around with their tails between their legs!
I am looking forward to seeing Tabitha in a couple of weeks when my sister and I are both planning on converging on my Mum from different ends of the country.

Hello b. ward ( sorry to be formal but you didn’t sign your name ),
I think maybe Tabitha will be one of those names that enjoys a resurgence in popularity like Rose and Daisy and Abigail. It has a kind of Victorian ring to it don’t you think.
I’ll tell my Mum about it being posh and associated with Waitrose – she does most of her shopping in Sainsbury’s or the Co-op, with an occasional treat from M & S!
Are you sure your dog wouldn’t enjoy a little feline companion?

    Hi Julia
Sounds like you may have had a productive few days off, writing your book maybe? I’m sure cats pick up on my ‘fear’ of them and that’s why they head straight for me.
I did see the show and thought the fish lights were lovely, trouble is there are so many to choose from, although maybe not in your case with, how many was it…29! I sat thinking, where would 29 lights go in my house, bedside tables, windows, but gave up because there is no way I could fit that many in LOL!!!
Had a weird day yesterday, firstly the man cutting the hedge across the road caught the electricity pole with his tractor, which resulted in pulling the cable and bracket out of the side of the house, which was looped over our tree and hanging down across the road!!! Mad panic to phone the national grid, followed by the police, because it was so low over the road a car could pass under, but not anything else. Before I could do so, a lorry came down the road, hit the cable, there was a massive bang and flash! The lorry carried on and didn’t stop, but the live cable had now been pulled out of the top of the meter box and was lying on the other side of the road…eeek! I went out and got through to the police, whilst flagging cars to slow down, which I’m glad to say the majority did, apart from one who did run over the cable…very lucky it didn’t wrap round his wheels!
The local ‘bobby’ arrived, blue lights flashing and placed cones on the road and said he would be there until the electricity people arrived. I was absolutely frozen by this time and said I would have made him a drink, but I’ve got no ‘lectric’…to top it all the meter reading guy turned up, timing or what, I said you can read the meter, but I’ve got no supply at the moment!
Chris arrived home and within a couple of hours it was all fixed, but for a while it was quite scarey…hopefully that’s my drama for the week!!

p.s. it didn’t do my ‘hot flushes’ any good LOL!!!

    Hi Annette
OK this is really weird!! I didn’t get as much writing done as I would like to have done because when I arrived in Spain ( on my own ) on Saturday it was to find that we had been subject to a lightening strike the week before and we had NO ELECTRICTY in the house!!! I also had no phone, no internet and no TV because the satellite receiver had blown, and then my mobile broke on the Monday.
Thankfully Chris arrived Monday afternoon ( after I had got all the tradesmen sorted out to come and do the repairs ) but I had spent 2 days in the dark as I have motorised security shutters which were stuck down!
Sounds like your ‘electricity escapade’ could have been really serious if anyone had got tangled up in the cable – what a nightmare!
By the way I have some Tiffany Style lights in Spain – definitely not room for 29 in one house without it looking like a lighting showroom!!!
Hope you have thawed out now

    Hi Julia,
Back from a lovely holiday in Egypt, and no i didn’t want to come home.It was so hot,the sky so blue. We alway’s have a late flight home so land early hours and don’t notice the garden, and yes Autumn is well and truley here. The trees in my garden look beautfull, but leaves are falling now.Loads of post and emails….. Karen Millen and Ted Baker( i’ll look at those first).Got to get back into the swing of things now, had confirmation on price of wedding invitations, and other bits and peices, so i must buckle down as my mum would say.I see you shot of to spain for a few days, must have been a bit scary with no electricity, you don’t realise how much you miss your phone untill you can’t use it.Did the sun shine for you.? ive got those shutters on my house never thought about power cuts, but i suppose there is nothing you can do till the power comes back, or in your case every thing gets fixed.

    Hi Kathy
OK I found this message now – thanks for the prompt. I wondered what the reference to Ted and Karen was in your other post?!? I have had to keep away from both shops for the time being – expensive time for me with Christmas and both Dan and Sophie’s birthday! I’ll have to wait a while for a treat – unless Santa brings something of course ……………………..!!!!
Yes it was a bit scary and not very pleasant but it all got fixed in the end – just waiting to hear from the insurance company now – thank goodness I was insured!
I had a couple of days of sunshine on the Tuesday and Wednesday so that cheered me up!
