Surf’s up!

Toby recovered after his operationWell another busy week at The Q. I launched a fab Gem Day with JR (Julia Roberts) and then presented the finale with Jill – I hope you enjoyed the labours of our gem buying team !

I mentioned last blog that Toby had visited the vets – well I'm delighted to report that all went very well. He had 3 nasty lumps removed from his back, had a troublesome dew claw removed and other things removed that still make a grown man wince!

So all in all he went through it a bit. The good news is that our vet did a wonderful job and Toby healed very quickly and the results regarding the lumps were all clear. The picture is of Toby after the op – he's now back to his bouncing best!

I was in Devon and Somerset last weekend as I caught up with Jack's rugby tour – I was a very good boy and hardly touched a drop of anything alcoholic, as I had obviously driven down myself and I wanted to keep my mind clear for the gems!

Saunton SandsIt sure knows how to rain in the West Country but that never detracts from the beautiful scenery. We stayed at the surfing stronghold of Croyde and the surf didn't disappoint. I say that as I could see the boys freezing in the water whilst I stood with other heroic parents cuddling a warm mug of coffee. The pic, by the way, is of Saunton Sands, taken from the road to Croyde Bay.

I was delighted to present an hour from the Real Pie Company on Thursday and viewers on the day would remember that I enthusiastically ate my way through the hour until I was rudely interrupted by the fire alarm! I'm sure viewers could hear the bell, even over my chomping, but when the bell didn't stop we started to realise our minutes on-air were numbered.

It's not unusual for us to regularly test the systems and the bell stops after a short time but on Thursday it didn't – so we hurriedly left the building and amassed safely outside, yes that's right the whole building, buyers, planners, engineers, camera ops, floor staff, the whole lot, even a group of bemused ladies who were attending a customer event with bareMinerals !

It was a false alarm, but QVC always takes such things very seriously, as they should. I later spoke to Pipa, who was hosting the customer event and we had to laugh – as hosts we go through the usual health and safety details during our intro and we usually finish with a "don't worry it's never happened before!!" comment. Oooops! Famous last words!

Have you surfed or visited Croyde? Would love to hear if you have.

Stay happy and well,

Dale x

    Hi Dale’icious
Sorry it’s been a while but you’ve been temporarily dumped for a vampire! (Speaking of which, you looked very fetching all in black this morning. Just needed a touch of red somewhere and I’d have been well away in fantasy land over my morning coffee!!)
Back to the plot then. I’ve finally got round to doing something I’ve been meaning to do again for ages for pleasure. No, not that Daleo …… focus, focus!!! READING of course!! I used to love reading a good book but got out of the habit some years ago mainly cos I have to do that much reading at work. On a friends recommendation, I started reading the Twilight book series a couple of weeks ago and have got through three books in just over two weeks. Have you seen the films? They’re great but the books are something else. Just one more to go then I’ll be back here in full swing …. well almost, I think we have to cut down on ‘the sauce’ a bit Gail. Where are you missus?
Really glad Toby’s ok Dale. I’ve had the same worry twice with my little tiger and fatty lumps. I guess some animals are just prone to them.

Hi Dale, My son, Adam is an avid surf dude! He’s always off down south for a surf break. He loves all of it, the sea, the lifestyle, the people. We are hoping to take our c’van down this year and go watch him. I do worry, after all he is still my baby. Only 27!!! It’s a parent thing!
Glad Toby is recovered. Willow sends a sloppy lick.
    Best Wishes, Mrs Shakespeare. (Fiona)

Hi Marian, good to hear frm you – I havent read the books but I’ve seen the first 2 films – they are much better than I was expecting! As a kid I was always frightened of Dracula, but Twilight is, well lighter!
Hi Fiona, theres a lot to be said about the surf scene. It’s like a huge group of athletic, daredevil hippies rolled into one! Wish I was 21 again! Toby says Thanks for your kind wishes – Love to both Dale x
