Hair makes or breaks your look, it changes your face and can have a profound anti-ageing effect on the way you look. Powerful stuff hey? The point is we should be looking after it. We know as we get older our hair takes a hit, it starts to thin, our parting gets more pronounced and we find strands all over the house. Next time you have a shower, have a look how much is in the tray or on the brush… I mean the damn stuff even falls out in our sleep! One hairdryer claims to change the way we dry our hair, cut drying time and reduce the amount of damage we cause during the process; that hairdryer is the Dyson Supersonic.
It’s a charming looking bit of kit and I’ve got to admit from the first time I saw this I wanted it. It looks amazing as you would expect from Dyson. But… I was super sceptical about the hype, claims and technology behind it, so that’s why Dyson invited me to their head offices to prove it’s the real deal. Very cool offices by the way, but more importantly some very cool stats and facts:
- Dyson spend £7 million a week on research and development
- They are in 75 countries
- They have 8000 patents filed worldwide
- One of the UK’s favourite brands beating Apple and Youtube last year
- In the last four years Dyson have tripled their investment in technology
These guys are serious, they’ll stop at nothing to change the game. Dyson invested £50 million alone into creating The Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. They investigated the science of hair from root to tip to understand how it reacts to stress and heat. The Supersonic has been tested on all different hair types and to date 1010 miles of real human hair. It contains some serious technology and engineering.
They found heat at about 150 degrees damages hair beyond repair, that means every time we dry our hair, straighten it, tong it, we are killing our hair, affecting it’s health and damaging it beyond repair. Where conventional hairdryers reach extreme temperatures, the Dyson Supersonic does not. You can ramp up the drying time without ramping up the heat. Its heat control is so sophisticated that a sensor checks the temperature 20 times a second and transmits this to a microprocessor.
If you look at the design it’s so beautifully aesthetic it’s award-worthy. When you hold it, it’s lightweight, with an ergonomic design. In fact it contains the world’s most powerful motor for its size – 110,000 rpm (that’s more powerful than the motor in a Ferrari). What’s more this super-powerful motor is housed in the handle not in the head so the weight distribution is dreamily balanced.
The approach with The Dyson Supersonic is fast and focussed. It uses a patented air multiplier so the volume of the air drawn into the motor is amplified hugely, producing a high velocity jet of air. The impact all this technology has is that drying your hair is much quicker, plus it is at a much lower temperature resulting in less damage, multiply this by the number of times you dry your hair and that’s a lot less damage!
Excuse the pun but I was literally blown away. I dried my hair in under 5 mins and I’m not alone, go and read the reviews because there are over 1000 five star reviews on our website (scroll down to see the reviews). So in essence am I convinced? You’re damn right I am!
It is in fact a reassuring expense because it does what it says it will. It performs like a £299 hairdryer should – with conviction and results. I for one am completely sold. I want one. It’s not just ahead of other hairdryers I’ve tried, but in a completely different league.
Top tip: Go for the purple option which is made especially for QVC UK customers and try it for 30 days.
