Behind the scenes of our Summertime Beauty shoot

Have you visited our new Summertime Beauty page yet? If not, head on over now!

We’ll be revealing four trends over the next few months that will give you all the inspiration you need to refresh your make-up routine for the warmer months. Whether you love a glowing ‘beachy’ look, bright pops of colour or something a little more refined, there’s so much more to discover.

We went behind the scenes at our recent photo shoot to chat with professional make-up artist, Victoria Baker about how to perfect each of our four looks. Read on for all of the insider tips and expert advice.

Here comes the sun

Think bronzed goddess and shimmering, highlighted features.

Victoria recommends going all-out with your primer and choosing  formulations with a golden undertone to really amp up your glow. The Backlight Priming Filter from Becca is perfect for doing just this! Finish the effect by applying highlighter (we love the Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator from Laura Geller) on top of anywhere you’ve bronzed for an even, unified base and sweeping Benefit Eye Bright in the inner rim of your eyes to widen their appearance and make them sparkle.

Fresh faced

Think a barely-there, yet flawless base, with a gorgeous flush at the cheeks.

This subtle look calls for perfectly groomed brows to frame your face. Victoria loved using Benefit’s Gimme Brow on our model to fill in any sparse areas and construct a natural arch. For adding a healthy, flushed look to your cheeks, she recommends a creamy blusher like Bobbi Brown’s Pot Rouge in a shade that complements your skin tone.

Colour chameleon

Think bold, bright colours on the eyes and lips.

Not one for wallflowers, this vivid look is all about being seen. Victoria says to be brave (we’re trying!) and rock both a statement eye and bold lip together by choosing a subtle blusher, whilst opting for shades either all on the cool end of the spectrum, or the warm. If you want to rock a tomato red lip for example, choose a similarly-toned warm shadow.

Try creating a bold eye look with Glo & Ray Eyeliners, paired with Benefit’s They’re Real! Double The Lip lipstick. For your base, get lightweight and flawless coverage with the Original SPF15 Foundation from Bareminerals – we love the natural-looking finish it gives.

The golden hour

Think refined glamour with hints of copper, bronze and gold.

You know that magical time of day when the light hits you just right? We’ve picked the best products to recreate that coveted, insta-perfect glow and we think we’ve nailed it! The beauty of this smoky look is that it’s perfect for moving you through the seasons and working just as hard in autumn.

Victoria advises that having a trusty eyeshadow palette is key, as there’s always a good selection of neutral greys, taupes and browns that work for creating a variety of looks, no matter the time of year. The Doll 10 Pro Eyeshadow Palette ticks all the boxes for us with gorgeously rich tones and a hint of shimmer. Finish off with a decadent lipstick that complements your shadow; the Bobbi Brown Perfect Summer Lip Duo features both a pencil and lipstick that can be used together or separately for a gorgeous matte finish.

Don’t forget you can see each fabulous look as it’s revealed, plus discover all of the brilliant products we used to create them over on our Summertime Beauty page. Which one’s your favourite?
