At last – summer is here! Hasn’t it been absolutely gorgeous? I went to the Post Office the other day and people were actually chatting in the queue (something that rarely happens!) about what a lovely day it was. It seems the sunshine just makes everyone feel better – long may it last!
Work’s been pretty busy though so I haven’t been able to sit out in my garden quite as much as I’d like – although I’m not complaining as I do like to be busy. I spent a day last week filming in Wiltshire, preparing some material for a media-training course (one of the things I do outside QVC, with my journalist hat on!).
Well, I say we were filming in Wiltshire, but I was actually filming in front of a green screen, pretending to be in Vietnam (a green screen means the editor can cut in pictures afterwards so it looks like you are somewhere you’re not, it’s very clever!). Then the following day I ended up in Buckinghamshire, again media-training and pretending to be in Afghanistan. It can be a weird old job at times…
Family wise, it’s my youngest sister Sarah’s wedding in a couple of weeks time so we’re all getting excited about that! She’s a drama therapist and lives in Sydney (she’s marrying an Australian marine biologist) but they are flying over to get married in the west of Ireland where our family home is.
We obviously don’t see each other that often so it’s going to be a great reunion as well as a brilliant day! She’s asked all of us other sisters to make a speech, so we’re writing that at the moment – as I live in the UK and the other two live in Dublin the speech writing is being done via email, bouncing back and forth. It’s coming together slowly, and it’s hilarious – er, well I hope it is. I think so anyway. We shall see how many laughs it gets on the big day!
My first show with Lulu
Back at QVC I had the great pleasure of doing my first show with the lovely Lulu. Honestly, what a nice lady she is. I’ve met and interviewed so many celebrities over the past twenty years, some great, some downright nasty. But QVC seems to get the good ones…I’m very much looking forward to working with Lulu again soon.
I’ve also been lucky enough to get a quick peek at a gorgeous Today’s Special Value that’s coming up next week. It’s the Kelly Hoppen Reversible Bed Cover. I’ve always been a fan of Kelly’s design style – she uses a lot of calm, neutral colours like taupe and beige and likes to create a balanced, harmonious look.
It’s won her lots of awards, a big celebrity following (she’s designed for people like David and Victoria Beckham) and she’s also the latest dragon to join the BBC’s Dragons’ Den!
I have her new bed cover in my spare room and it looks fantastic – it has one textured, matte side and one shiny, satin-look side so you can flip it over whenever you fancy a change. It’ll be the Today’s Special Value on Monday 15th July so you can grab yours then if you like the look of it.
That’s it for now – have a great week!
