Summer days

Raft raceHow hot has it been recently? Hope you have all coped with it well, nobody in the UK really has air con in their houses but some may have contemplated it recently. I know lots of people have been sleeping with windows open but it’s not an option for me as I’m in a ground floor flat. I did invest in a Dyson Hot & Cool Bladeless fan and this has made a big difference, it’s more of a room cooler than a fan but has helped at night with the hot weather.

My parents were away recently in the Canary Islands and I took great pleasure updating them daily that it was in fact hotter in London than where they were. There’s something inherent in us Brits that feels the need to boast about the good weather to anyone that will listen.

Britain in the sun is an amazing place, everyone seems happy, folk make the most of being outdoors in parks, on the river, at the sea and we even risk sleeping outside by camping. Apparently it’s going to be the hottest summer on record!

Each year my local organises The Annual Raft Race across the river and back on a homemade raft with a team of four people. Last weekend Ted and I, along with a group of friends went to support the teams taking part. I was astounded at how serious some of the teams took it, there were some incredible rafts that had been made and some ingenious ideas. All team members were in fancy dress although this wasn’t a prerequisite, but again dressing up something else us Brits love to do.

The event is always well supported, there’s usually music, drinks and a BBQ but there’s also medical staff on standby just in case. Ultimately it’s made me really want to enter next year, I’m thinking a full girls team. Even making of the raft and the training will be fun, no idea where we will get all the materials from but we shall cross that bridge (and river) when we come to it.

Really hoping that August stays fairly pleasant weather-wise because I’m having a staycation, the new term for a domestic vacation. I’m clearly a sucker for punishment because I’m taking my 9 year old nephew camping for the first time, Teddy is also coming, this could be a recipe for disaster and has sleepless nights written all over it. My nephew Mason wants to bring his guitar, Teddy will have his squeaky toys, what on earth have I got myself into? Watch this blog space in a few weeks to see how that goes…

I’ve finally sorted the spare room and despite debating with colours, yet again I went with neutrals. Because the room is long and narrow I wanted bed sheets with subtle stripes to compliment the shape of the room – I’ve opted for a reversible taupe Northern Nights 600TC in Taupe, which is actually an upcoming Today’s Special Value (TSV) on 5th August, and the last Northern Nights linen TSV of the year.

As you can see from the photos Teddy is none too happy I call it the spare or guest room, because it is blatantly his room.

I can certainly picture you doing the raft thing. You do seem to love your neutrals. You even have a neutral colour fur baby lol. Enjoy the camping. It will be fun.
    Love Melissa xxx
