Stonehenge, karaoke, and two years back at QVC!

Debbie at Avebury This week…
- Two years back at QVC – what's your fave memory of the old days?
- Karaoke crazy! And Stonehenge uncovered – again!
- Plus 'Friends with Benefits', one. 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy', nil.

Stonehenge again
Stonehenge at sunset Wow! Hold it, flash, bang, wallop… or what! Am very proud of my attempts at doing a Mat Trim at Stonehenge – as we visited the ancient stones for the second time, and took our private tour inside the stone circle last week. My pal Gill was so interested in last year's trip, she wanted me to go with her again this year, and considering how much of an archaeology geek I am on the quiet, I couldn't refuse!

Gill and Debbie at Stonehenge We visited Stonehenge on the Wednesday night – and had a brilliant sunset – specially ordered for our trip! Lol. Thursday and Friday included many of the other Neolithic sites in the area including long barrows and round barrows and henges and standing stones – tiring but as usual, utterly fascinating. For me anyway!

Lindum Heritage again did the honours of this special trip accompanied by renowned Neolithic expert Julian Richards – fascinating as always. Here's that magic moment where – unlike many of the visitors who are forced to remain behind the rails many yards away – we were actually allowed to walk inside the circle itself.

Goats sheltering at Avebury stone Julian was fascinating with his theories of how they used the stones originally – other videos are on my YouTube account too. For now, here's a final pic of the goats at Avebury – where we went on the Friday. This sooooo needs a caption! What should it be, do you think? :-)

Singing, and the old days…

Well it's now almost exactly two years since I returned to QVC for the second time. It's flown by! For those that don't realise, 'first time round' for me, was from almost launch, in Feb '94, till 2000. This is probably the funniest blooper from that time – the infamous 'tart-en-khuman' gems show clip!

Six years of 'early days' – with so many fab memories. What are yours? One of my lovely Facebook pals said she had the fondest memories of when we used to sell karaoke sets, and do our little singing bit –  Diane Murray says, 'My best memory of you is singing 'Crazy' at New Year, when you had your kids in with you. You had a great voice.' Bless her! Let me know what you remember about the early days, or if you're a more recent QVC 'regular', what are your highlights from the last two years?

Now I haven't got any recent on-air singing, nor a copy of 'Crazy' from the old days, but I can let you in to a little secret – we had a karaoke booth in Brighton's 'Nine Rooms' recently, my family and I, and all I can say is, Adele has nothing to worry about! Don't give up your day job, Deb! Lol.

SEE: This week's hot tip for the cinema has got to be 'Friends With Benefits' – Justin Timberlake and co in a classic rom com – and very funny it is too! Very tongue-in-cheek, and moving at the same time! Loved it – 8 and half out of ten for me! Go see it if you can! For obvious reasons I saw this with a female pal, ex-sister in law Alison!

SEE #2: I did go and see the new Gary Oldman/Colin Firth movie with a boy tho' – my mate Nigel – thought that was safe! Sadly the same top marks I gave 'FWB' cannot, however, be given to 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'. What a let down! I was anticipating great things from it, with such a stellar cast, but was sorely disappointed. Was it just me, or was it quite hard to follow?

Whilst the cinematography was fab, the story was just a bit too scattergun. Le Carre once said putting a book on film was like trying to get a cow into an Oxo cube, apparently. Well all I can say is that with the latest film version they made a cube with uneven sides and missing corners! Five out of ten from me. :-( Afterwards, Nige and I watched a brilliant classic DVD that more than made up for it though, so here's the trailer of one of Jim Carrey's finest. Zooey Deschanel is sooo Meg Ryan, isn't she?

If you remember us presenting Tony Robbins' cds on QVC, and the live broadcast I did once with Tony back from Philadelphia, then 'Yes Man' should make you smile! It made me crease up more than once, hence a good 8 and three-quarters out of ten for this one! (NB. rarely do I give a nine!)

Crystal bracelet QVC: Ooo, what QVC highlight to mention?! It has to be one of the hottest styles of the moment – the new bracelet we've all been wearing – even some of the guys! This crystal studded bracelet will be airing on Tuesday (Monday night at midnight launch) – I'd get yours early if I were you, it's going to be a biggie!

NEXT WEEK: I'm off to see my favourite musical ever – 'City of Angels' – done by an am-dram group in Putney… plus we'll be talking guilty pleasures.

Have a good week and see you then!

HI Debs, I cannot believe you have been back at QVC for two years, where did that time go?
You have had some very funny moments on QVC, that karaoke machine I’m pretty sure I bought one for my mother- in- law, that part of the family are mad on singing, I can remember you singing Crazy, shows you how long I’ve been watching the Q channel.
Been trying to think of suitable caption for the goats but as normal rubbish at this sort of thing, what usually happens something pops in to my head in the middle of the night but this can takes weeks, must be my age ha ha!
Like the sound of the film friends with benefits, do I take the happy go lucky hubby or my friend Little Debs.I
think I will leave him to dog and cat sit, I haven’t been out for ages with a girlfriend. Will report back

Linda – yes Jules is great – he’s one of my favourite people at QVC – one of everybody’s favourite actually! Genuinely warm and funny – am sure that comes across on screen, but it’s even more vivid off!
