Give your make-up bag a spring clean

I was recently asked to overhaul Zoe’s make-up bag! Zoe is a mum of two young girls, she has a busy job as a Health Visitor and hasn’t really strayed from the make-up products that she’s used since being a teenager.

Here are some of the brands and products I recommended for Zoe, hopefully some of the thoughts I’ve put below will give you a few ideas too!

Skin perfecting…

Laura Geller Balance n Brighten

As she’s a mum and appears to prefer a more natural look, I want to give her speedy make-up!

Zoe should try Laura Geller’s Balance n Brighten, it’s a baked foundation which started its life as a liquid, so it’s not chalky.

This is very much Laura’s hero product from her range, on our website alone there are well over 500 five star reviews!

stila CC cream

I would also recommend that Zoe tried the Stila CC Cream!

This can be used quickly on its own for a fresh dewy look, or as a base before applying Laura Geller’s Balance n Brighten which will give a bit more cover.

Blush and eyes…

Laura Geller Blush n Brighten   New CID i-Glow
Zoe is busy working, studying and has two young girls, so when it comes to blusher I would definitely go for either New CID or Laura Geller. Why? Well these are baked & multi-dimensional, if you want speed avoid single flat colours and opt for a blusher with a mixture of shades in it.

Bobbi Brown Eye Palette

Zoe told me that she likes to wear browns or neutral shades on the eyes, because of this I would recommend Bobbi Brown eye palettes!

Bobbi delivers great collections of daily neutrals with liner and shimmer included, this means you can easily jazz up your look for the evening without having to change your make-up bag!

And finally – LIPS!

tarte Lip Glosses

The tarte lipgloss box would be perfect for Zoe, you get FIFTEEN lipglosses, loads of colour choices and they are SO moisturising!

This collection is top rated on the QVC website and one of the most wished for products from the tarte collection.

These can be dotted around everywhere; home, work, car, & bag etc!

This should give Zoe a routine that’s pretty foolproof, but fashionable and fresh with plenty of options. The other bonus is that all of these goodies will easily fit into one make-up bag keeping them away from sticky little fingers!

I’d love to hear about your make-up essentials for busy people, those products that you can rely on for a quick fix when you have to run out of the door, leave me a comment below and share your thoughts.

Love, Ali x

I like to use Liz Earlie Sheer skin tint in Beige mixed with just a bit of Vichy Dermablend fluid corrective foundation in Nude as this give me both lightness and a bit of coverage. After that I put Bobby Brown Pot Rouge in Powder Pink on the cheeks and a bit on the temples. I then swipe Liz Earlie Perfect Finish Powder Foundation only on the T-zone as I like the rest of my face to have radiance. Where necessary I dab in a tiny bit of Amazing Cosmetics concealer or Bare Minerals bisque.
Eyeshadows are either from Bobby Brown or Frontcover ranges and I like Smashbox gel eyeliner and Smashbox Full Exposure mascara. My favourite of all times is Lipstic Queen lipstick in Medieval as it is both moisturising and glossy enough.
And, I almost forgot, the eyebrow pencil is from YBF perfected with the Smashbox ‘Brow Tech’ in Taupe.
For a special occasion I like to use Joan Collins liquid eyeliner and Lipstic Queen lipstick in Sinner.

I would like to know if I can put moisteriser over the top of my ultrasun face cream as I am finding my skin is so dry and ultrasun is making it difficult to put my foundation on?
    Many thanks Tina

    Hi Alison
This is not a beauty query but a very big beauty thank you to yourself and QVC for enabling me to learn so much more about skin care and make-up from your extensive knowledge and the brilliant buying opportunities of trying and returning if you are not happy with a particular product offered by QVC. I am now 67 years old and discovered the brilliant Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish for the first time 8 years ago when I first became a QVC customer. I have used it ever since. Until this great discovery I had been using cold cream to remove my make-up. What a difference Cleanse & Polish has made to my skin. This product is among the many prestige brands I now use, i.e Elemis, Laura Geller, Mally, L’occitane, to name just a few, and it’s all thanks to you and QVC.

    Hi Alison,
    I hope you are well.
I wondered if you could please advise me on something. On Saturday 17th May on the 6 pm Laura Gellar show you featured a new undereye concealer/highlighter pen but I can’t seem to find it on any of the listings. Can you please advise me of the item No. Many thanks :)
