Sorry Simon!

Julia's Mum blowing out her 80th birthday candles This weekend is the 16th Anniversary of having Butler and Wilson fashion jewellery on QVC but unfortunately I will not be doing the shows with Simon on Saturday. I do have a very good excuse though – it's my Mum's 85th birthday tomorrow and she is staying with us to celebrate.

Simon has met my Mum, in fact she 'modelled' for us in a show last year so I 'm sure he will understand, and anyway I'm doing his shows on Sunday and Tuesday evenings!

We were planning the 'birthday girl's' menu and I asked Mum what birthday cake she would like me to bake. She has opted for the family tradition of chocolate cake so I will have to start baking in a minute.

It reminded me of Mum's 80th birthday which she also spent with us. I'd baked her a chocolate cake, and decided to have a bit of a giggle by putting 80 candles on the top. I lit them as quickly as I could and called Mum through to blow them out. The joke almost backfired as the heat of the candles started to melt the icing and little bits of wax splashed over the cake as Mum blew the candles out. As you can see from the photo (above), my Dad thought it was hysterical!

I think we'll give the candles a miss tomorrow though.

I'm planning on trying out my Eton Mess recipe on Mum too and it should go down well as she likes meringue, strawberries and cream. The secret ingredient is a little splash of port which really brings out the flavour of the strawberries. As mum gets 'tiddly' on a sniff of sherry at Christmas, it could be quite entertaining!

See you later for the launch of the Ronni Nicole TSV – it's the pink animal  dress I've been wearing and I think it is going to be very popular!

Much love,
Julia xx

    Hi Julia
Firstly, ‘Happy Birthday’ to you lovely Mum, hope she enjoys the day with you all and the scrummy chocolate cake.
I can remember your Mum modelling last year and she did a pretty good job of it and very glamorous too… now that’s where you get it from!
Have a fabulous time and hope your Mum doesn’t get too tipsy!

    Morning Julia
First of all. Happy Birthday to your lovely Mum. Thats such a lovely photo, your Dad looks like hes full of mischief!!
Managed to catch the last 20 minutes of the repeat of the TSV launch this morning. You look FAB in the pink dress.
I got my “funny” spex yesterday, and they are helping a little bit with the double vision. i can only wear them for short periods of time, but will build it up, until I can watch QVC ALL day!!
Just a short one this time, as this is the first time i have tried to use the netbook, and havent typed since the stroke, its helping to strengthen my arm though, so thats good.
Thank you again for the email, you really made my day.
    Love to the family.
P.s. I dont think Simon will mind you missing the shows Julia, he might need some chocolate cake to placate him though!!!
Annette, thank you for thinking of me.

    Hi Julia,
Hope your Mum had a lovely birthday, wow 85. Happy birthday to her. You mention chocolate cake, if you have a good recipe and have time to put it up on your blog it will be good to make, it is hard to find a good recipe for chocolate cake which I love. I see what you mean by all the candles on the cake. The Ronni Nicole dress you had on looked really nice, loved the colour which really suited you. I have been watching Simon’s shows, he makes some stunning things, especially the necklaces and bracelets,I have lots of his things, from the jewellery to the clothes. Very talented man isnt he and busy. Hope you enjoyed your weekend.

I’m so pleased you were able to type your message yourself – you are clearly making progress with your arm. It was my pleasure to drop you an email …. you’ve been posting so long you’re like an old friend ( and not in the age sense! )
My Dad was a character – I love that photo of him, he was absolutely cracking up at Mum’s attempts to blow out the candles before we needed to call the fire brigade out!
Hope you’ve enjoyed all the B & W shows – I didn’t need to bring him in chocolate cake as Jo here at QVC had made him a proper cake!

    Hi Julia
So glad your Mum enjoyed her very naughty sweet birthday with you…bet the pilates machine has had a good old pounding since!
Poor Bobby had to go to the Vet on Sunday morning, he followed Chris outside and when Chris turned round he was standing there on three legs, with his right front leg up and paw under his chin, looking very pensive. Obviously, he couldn’t tell us what was wrong and we didn’t know, but we then found a ‘WASP’ on the doormat!
Chris phoned the Vet and he told us to take him in when they opened. He sat on Chris’ knee for over half an hour, with his head on his chest and his paw still up. I’ve never seen him so quiet, it must have really hurt him because he wasn’t even attempting to lick his paw better. He was given an injection to take any swelling down….a few hours later he was back to his tinkering self asking for his tea of fresh boiled chicken and rice…he eats better than us!
Sorry, missed your show with Simon, we’ve had a busy few days here and I’ve got lots of birthday cards to make this month.
    Speak soon

    Hi Una
So pleased to see you writing on Julia’s blog, well done. Hope you’re getting used to your glasses and they are helping with your vision…little and often as they say!
It’s taken months to get my glasses right. I have to wear mine all the time and have varifocals, but for some reason, I was getting blurred vision on the edges together with a rainbow effect…very strange, because my old ones were fine. To cut a long story short, they eventually realised, after about eight visits to and fro, that I had an aversion to polycarb lenses!!
Hope each day gets better and better for you, take care.

Hi Julia, I was glued to every Butler and Wilson show over the past few days to celebrate Simon’s anniversaries. Each show was brilliant and I bought lots and did NOT manage to sit on my debit/credit cards as we discussed in previous emails!!!! I love Simon’s things as they are just stunning and so very iconic and yet wearable. I love it when you and Simon are presenting together, but glad you were able to have such a lovely time with your mum on her birthday. I treated myself to the long, red clutch bag and the panda bag and the panda ear rings and necklace. I also bought several gifts for close friends for Christmas including several cat brooches and the cat bracelet. Also for myself, I got the Union Jack ear rings in the silver tone and the stunninng blue faceted stretchy bracelet you were showing in the 11pm hour last night. What a bonus that extra hour was and it was great to see Ali sitting with you and commenting on the jewellery too. Isn’t Ali just so very beautiful? I think that she is a genuine true beauty and I am always delighted to see her on Simon’s shows in particlar and also in other QVC hours she models for. I also managed to pick up a lovely pair of Simon’s crystal ear rings and 2 great faceted grey crystal necklaces in the QVC last clicks section. The prices were amazing for Simon’s jewellery and one of the necklaces is yet another Christmas gift to put away in the pressie cupboard!!! Thank goodness for QVC and it was such a fabulous bonus to have all of Simon’s pieces on 3 easy pays which is a great help for doing the Christmas gift shopping early and spreading the cost. Well done QVC and Simon. I know I got several Christmas gifts for close friends, but I really treated myself too and can’t wait for my parcels to arrive. Thanks for being such a great presenter and I am glad that Simon saved you some of the stunning chocolate cake – it looked delicious and it was really funny when the camera ‘caught’ Simon really tucking into a slice of it!!! Can’t blame him as it looked fab!!! Please don’t let Simon get away from QVC – he is much too brilliant to lose. I have got Butler and Wilson withdrawal symptoms today. Love Sue x

    Morning Julia
    I hope you are well.
Managed to watch little snippets of the B&W shows. I can only watch TV in little segments, so have taken to recording everything, it takes me about 2 hours to watch a Corrie episode! Im getting there though, slowly! Ive had to adapt, AGAIN, and dont exactly enjoy the slow motion nonsense, but it means Im a wee bit more independent.
Im still trying to figure out who you hinted might be pregnant. i have my suspicions. Dont think you announced who it it is, just that its not a presenter, hmmmmmmmmmm………………!!!
I emailed you back, but not sure if you got it, we had issues with broadband for a couple of days, and had to get the engineer to replace something or other that makes these things work!!!!
Looking forward to the Elemis shows. im sure between yourself and Keeley you will cheer me up no end! My little double act together again. Hugs to Kaia.

I agree with you about Ali – she is gorgeous and it was lovely to have her sat with me for the bonus show! I liked the way she just stayed ‘normal’ and didn’t try and pretend to be a guest Presenter.

    Hello Janet
Thanks for the birthday wishes for my Mum. It was 3 different birds. As we left my house on Tuesday morning a bird seemed to fly along with the car for just a 100 yards or so before swooping down in front of the windscreen and flyig off.
Later in the journey a bird flew towards the car and across in front of the windscreen, and the same thing happened just before we got back to Cotgrave. Funny thing is my Mum didn’t see any of them. Weird heh??

Did I hint that someone might be pregnant??????? Maybe not yet but I don’t think it will be too long before Ali starts a family.
Really looking forward to my two shows with Keeley tomorrow and she is definitely bringing Kaya with her so a real bonus! Kaya adores Sophie and funnily enough ( as she doesn’t really like children much ) she adores him back.

    Hi Julia
It’s 9 points out of 12 for Palace. Rangers won today and Celtic got beat at home to St Jonstone so we are top of the League. Doesn’t get much better than that for me! What has happened at Palace?! Not used to seeing you guys win so much lol. Not sure you should go back to Selhurst – they seem to be doing well!
As you said we did lose on Thurday and if I had written to you on Friday then I would have been one moody young man, but as you can imagine today has lifted me big time!

    Hi Steven,
Yet another Palace victory last night in the Carling Cup ( mind you it was only first round postponed because of the ‘troubles’ in Croydon ) – they really do seem to be on a bit of a roll! I think success breeds confidence.
I am looking forward to going on Saturday but you have put some doubt in my mind now – do you think I will change their luck? – I hope not or I will be banned for the rest of the season!!
Rangers seem to be doing better than Celtic at the moment – I saw the post match interview with Neil Lennon and he was not a happy bunny!

Success definitely breeds confidence Julia you are spot on. No I’m sure you will bring Palace more luck against Blackpool. I think Blackpool now have ex ranger Barry Ferguson in there team now and Kevin Phillips has still been banging them in. He must be nearing 40 now!
I’m off to Iborox both tomorrow night and Sunday(Maribor and Aberdeen) so fingers crossed we can keep our ‘bit of a roll’ going too!
Saw one of your Yankee Candle shows last night with Michaela. Great show and the pair of you looked fab into the bargain.

Yes Mr Phillips did score 2 Julia, but sure Palace will handle him. I remember you saying that about Rob Milsom. Well I obviously cant shre your views on this one! I hope he has a stinker and his team get hammered. I need picking up after last night anyway. We drew 1-1 with the mighty Maribor to crash out of Europe so not exactly in the best of spirits football wise today. Still looking forward to Sunday now though. The demestic League is all we have now.
Enjoy the Palace game and no problem re the compliment. I’m sure you get many!

I see you beat Aberdeen?? Did Rob have a ‘stinker’??
Well Palace managed the draw – we probably had Speroni to thank for keeping us in it in the first half but we definitely deserved the draw! It all changed when Dougie moved Dean Moxey from the right to the left – his normal side ( he is a left footer after all ). Anyway we got the point and go into the international break in the play off positions …. would be nice if we could stay there!

Rob Milsom actually played OK I thought. You know what its like at the games you are more interested in how your team are doing but I think he did ok… not enough to stop the mighty Rangers though!
It’s Scotland v Czech Rep on Saturday. I’m not going to Hampden but I’ll be watching. We play them and then Lithuania on Wednesday. Two wins are a must really if we want to get into the play offs behind Spain.
We(Palace and Rangers) head into the break in good positions. We are top of the League and Palace are in the play offs. Fingers crossed it stays like that eh!
Enjoy the game on Tuesday x
