Anne Dawson and grandchild

Sophie’s choice!

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re all well and enjoying the sunshine we’ve been having of late (coming from my neck of the woods, I’m always slightly apprehensive about praising sunny weather!).

Anyway it’s been a wee while since you’ve had an update on the latest addition to win Great auntie Anne’s heart, so I thought I’d pop over a few photos for you.

Anne's baby great-niece

The whole family!

My favourite is the one of all three of them getting ready for England’s debut match during the recent World Cup (shame they aren’t Germany supporters, we could’ve had a whole album!).

Anne with her niece LouiseBy the way, the cake stand one is when I went up to visit, and lovely Louise (my niece) made afternoon tea! You know that has to be an absolute favourite of mine.

Given the choice of going out for a slap-up meal or afternoon tea, with my pot of Earl Grey and teeny weeny finger sandwiches…well, no contest really!

The lovely afternoon tea cake stand

Of course the icing on the cake (every pun intended) is the warm scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream.

Gosh, I’m tempting myself even as I write! Is afternoon tea appropriate at 8am?

Anyway how is your summer going?

I really can’t complain as I’m out again to Italy shortly. Had a fabulous nine days there recently with my friend Fiona. I love going out with the family, but I have to say that going out with a girlfriend is just sooooo relaxing. In fact the most exercise I think we got was moving from our sun loungers on the beach up to the little restaurant for our daily pasta and gelato fix. My bathroom scales did indeed confirm this lack of momentum, when upon my return I discovered that there was an extra 5lb of Anne Dawson (Good job this doesn’t count as “excess baggage”)!

Back out shortly with the family (14 days this time!) and a resolve to only have 2 scoops of the delicious homemade gelato once a day, less I return the size of a four-bedroom detached house!

There shall be a wee Italy photo album at the end of the summer on my blog. Funny thing is, most of my photos are of food, so it may look a bit like a menu! Very strange (could there possibly be a connection between the photos and my bathroom scales?)!

Take care you lovely lot and catch up soon.

Lots of love.

Anne x

    Hi Anne,
Thanks for sharing photos of delightful Sophie – she’s beautiful and her little expression when she’s looking at her mum is fab!
I think you and I have two things in common at least! – I love Italy and we are busy saving hard to go next year. Probably Sicily or if not, Puglia but Sicily is the first choice. You suggested that to me in an earlier blog!
Second, in the last few years, I’ve been lucky enough to have Afternoon Tea in great hotels and you’re right, it beats a slap-up meal. After a big meal, I just want to sleep! I have a confession to make – I turned up for work this morning and early into the shift, my manager offered me a scone with jam and clotted cream – I hesitated but it would have been rude not to eat it! Yum..
Take care and you have a wonderful time in Italy – looking forward to seeing some photos!
    Lots of love,
    Beth XX.

Hi Anne! I so love your blogs! I just find you’re a tonic! You make me laugh just reading your blog and hearing your voice come through! Sophie is a doll. How old is she now? And you and Louise are so similar. You look so happy all of you. I can’t wait for your Italy photos! You’re a lucky duck with your Italian pad! I’ve still never made it to Italy. Look forward to that day! Be nice to have family time but glad you got girlfriend time too! How’s your shoulder these days? Night night x

    Hi Susan,
Lovely to hear from you. Sadly I didn’t really get to see much of the games, but everyone has been raving about them. Fabulous that they were held north of the border too! Always gives a bit of a boost!!
It was my son Phil who performed at the opening ceremony at the London 2012 games. Great memories all round :)

    Hi Beth,
    Lovely to hear from you.
Never been to Puglia but would love to go one day. When we were originally looking to buy in Italy, the choice was between Calabria and Puglia.
Look out for my next blog, been to Sicily several times now but it still takes my breath away. There will be some photos! Hope you get there yourself one day!
    Lots of love
