Sophie the Ice Princess

Sophie at a frozen waterfall in Brecon Hello there,

Well this is a rather belated 'Happy New Year' to you all! Sorry I haven't blogged for a couple of weeks, but I haven't been too well… a good start to 2010! But as they say, things can only get better!

I really enjoyed seeing the New Year in with Sophie, her boyfriend and her best friend from a great vantage point on Lambeth Bridge. We were able to see Big Ben and the firework display too, although we were downwind and missed the end of the fireworks due to all the drifting smoke!

It was great fun and quite magical too as we had a tiny snow flurry as we walked back to the car. We arrived home just as my partner Chris got back from his gig and toasted the New Year together with a Kir Royale.

In my last post I mentioned my love affair with my Emu boots, which is still ongoing – they've been my lifesaver the last couple of weeks as I'm not very good in the snow. We had the TSV on December 29th and true to my word I stayed up and ordered a pair for Sophie's birthday. Amazingly, despite all the dreadful weather, they arrived in just three days – I was very impressed! She was with us to open her presents in the morning, then drove down to Wales to spend a few days with her boyfriend.

The picture of the frozen waterfall above (and please note she's wearing her Emu boots!) was taken near Brecon; I thought I'd include it as it's just so amazing – isn't nature awe inspiring? I've called the picture 'Ice Princess' as it's very icy and Sophie's childhood nickname was 'princess'. In fact I still call her it sometimes. Daniel's nickname is 'tiger' after the Chinese symbol for his birth year. I don't really have a nickname (as far as I know, lol!), but I'd love to hear yours and why you're called it.

It was good to catch up, speak again soon,
Julia. xx.

Happy New Year to you and all your family. This is the first blog I’ve replied to, although I check yours and all the other presenters daily. I love hearing about all your families and the antics you all get up to! My husband, and I have always called our daughter ‘Twink’ because she has always been a little star who brought a shining light into our lives.

    Hi Julia
Glad you’re back although by the sound of your voice you’re still not 100%.(you’ve lost weight too!!)
It’s just as well that Sophie had her photo taken a few weeks ago as the snow here in Wales has been really bad-roads to Brecon were either closed or dangerous. It took my Daughter 5 hours to get home from work the other day-normally 40 mins! She’s not too happy at the moment as it’s her Birthday today and postie can’t get to her so has rec’d no cards etc
Cardiff City not doing too well at the moment are they? I think our next match with Palace is the end of March but I’ve been following Peter Ridsdale after you mentioned him in your previous blog.
    Take Care
    Julie xx

Glad to see you back tonight Julia ,you sounded a bit unwell. It is not the same without you .
We have all had lots of snow, and I know my family in Kent have had a bit of a shock this year.We are all hard up in in the north ,well used to it ,but it has been exceptional this year.Hope you feel better and take care ,best wishes Emily Winter

    Hello Edel
I’ve missed you too!! I’m sorry to say I’m not a very good ‘patient’ so I think I’ve been driving my family mad!! Hello Carol
Glad to hear you enjoy reading our blogs – I must say I enjoy writing them. I think ‘twink’ is a lovely nickname – I often use the expression ‘thanks you’re a star’ but twink personalises it.
    much love
Julia ( another proud mummy! ) xx

    Hello Margaret
Good to hear from you too – Sophie said the whole area was spectucular with the resevoirs frozen over – only trouble was the roads were treacherous. I enjoyed the snow at first but I am pleased we are getting back to normality.
    much love

    Hello Dorothy
Yes it’s good to be back – I was going ‘stir crazy’ at home. I have got a couple of weeks off from today, but I probably need the rest and will be fighting fit when I get back on Feb 4th ( I hope! )
I agree the picture of Sophie would be good on Christmas cards ……….. maybe if I started now I could get at least 3 done by next Christmas – LOL!!!!!
Hope 2010 is a good year for you
    much love

    Hello Emily
Thanks for welcoming me back – my chest infection hasn’t quite cleared but nearly there. I’m off now until the 4th Feb so a bit of r and r should do the trick!
My sister lives in south west Scotland and they have been more or less snowed in since 21st December so I guess we got off lightly really.
    much love

    Hi Julie
It was good to get a few days in at QVC as I am now off until the 4th Feb – hopefully the break will have me back to normal ( whatever that is! ).
Sophie’s picture was taken last Sunday – I had heard the snow was coming so she set off from Wales early on Tuesday morning and managed to beat it ……. her boyfriend told her there were lots of road closures. Hope it’s a bit better now – we’re just about melted here.
Palace are doing OK on the pitch, our worry is off it – there is a real danger of administration so we just need to amass enough points so that if we get a 15 point deduction we won’t be relegated – happy times!!
    keep in touch
    Julia xx

    Hi Jackie
I have just told Sophie about your nickname for her ‘Foofy’ and she is intrigued ……… you will have to spill the beans!
It is funny that your daughter Lucy plays at being a QVC Presenter – when QVC first started in 1993, Sophie was 5 and Daniel was 6 and somewhere I have a camcorder recording of them ‘being’ QVC Presenters. Daniel was Paul Lavers and Sophie was Maria Rice-Mundy neither of whom you will remember Jackie but some people reading this may. I must see if I can find the tape it was hilarious!
If we don’t speak before ( I hope we do cos I want to know more about Foofy ) a very Happy Birthday for the 8th – I hope you have some great QVC pressies lined up.
    Much love
Julia ( and Foofy ) xx

    Hi Julia,
I only joined the QVC family a month ago; I am so hooked by it!
I even told my colleagues at work but they’re not interested, their loss.
Your presenting skills are amazing and I always like to watch you, even if I am not buying. Your warmth and affection for the viewers is out of this world.
    Keep the good work
Love Luzia Coelho ( Portuguese name)

Welcome to QVC and so pleased you found us. Speaking of which,
I only just found your message – thankyou for all your lovely compliments what kind things to say.
Don’t you share your surname with the author Paul Coelho?
Keep enthusing about us to your friends ……. you never know, you may convert them yet!
    much love
