Sometimes I'm lucky enough to be given the opportunity to take a product home to try it out properly before we bring it to you as a Today's Special Value. This helps me tell you about it in the most useful and honest way – sometimes it's hard to really understand how to get the best from something when I've only seen it in the studio. But I have never used a Dyson vacuum cleaner at home. They've always impressed when I see them at QVC but I haven't had the chance to put one through its paces in a domestic situation.
So I was delighted to bring home a box containing the Today's Special Value for Wednesday 30th October - a hand-held Dyson DC59 Animal cordless vacuum cleaner. You may have seen the television adverts for it – it's the latest space age looking model from Dyson, incorporating all the amazing technology this company's experts have developed in their laboratories.
Before I could as much as open the box it had been wrestled off me by Billy, my 18 year old son, who loves gadgets, electronics and anything new. He had it opened in a flash and it emerged from it's packaging charged and ready to go. Billy loved the stylish modern look of the machine, and something incredible happened – something that has only ever happened once or twice before in the history of the universe, and even then only after much cajoling, pleading and threatening from both me and Billy's dad… BILLY CLEANED HIS CAR!!!!
Usually you can't open the door without an avalanche of empty drink cans and bottles, crisp packets and general rubbish flying out – and the debris and detritus wallowing in the foot wells could be hiding a multitude of treasures! This cleaning event, inspired by the power and beauty of the Dyson, was such a momentous occasion that it needed to be recorded and kept for posterity and the future enjoyment of all who have risked travelling in this vehicle – so a video was made (see below).
In all seriousness, the cordless handheld Dyson is a wonderfully useful tool that will vacuum up all in it's wake and enable you to reach high, low and into awkward behind radiator/bed/sofa spaces in a matter of seconds – you'll wonder how you ever managed without it. Now, let's see how it copes with Billy's bedroom…
