That's it. I've had enough of the snow – it's time it all melted! Over the past week, we've had recurring snow showers, no sooner than I had cleared the drive when it snowed again. Thank goodness for the Golden Gark which makes light work of both raking and shovelling the snow off my gravel drive. My son, Chris (pictured), was so impressed that he came out to have a go. Mind you, having expressed his enthusiasm for it, he went inside to find his gloves and never re-appeared to continue his help!
The other crucial job was to brush the snow off the evergreen plants to prevent the weight breaking any of the branches. As I did this, trying to avoid walking on the lawn (which is virtually impossible), I reflected that at least all this cold weather will help kill off some of the over-wintering pests.
Yesterday I drove to Coventry to film some plants for our Today's Special Value offer in February. Whilst there, Stuart, the multi-talented cameraman/director/editor, pointed out how much the birds were enjoying my new bird food that I'd sent him to try. He reckoned the birds loved it so much that they were stacking up, just like the planes at Heathrow, waiting for their place at the feeder. It's the RSPB Garden Birdwatch this coming weekend ( 26th-27th January) so it looks like he's got quite a bit of counting to do!
