Singing for our supper

Julia with John and Phil TufnellOn Sunday, as I mentioned briefly in last week's blog, I was delighted to be invited to a Curry-Oke evening organised by a friend of mine, former Crystal Palace player John Salako, and no, I haven't spelled karaoke incorrectly, it was a karaoke evening with a curry supper.

The evening was to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and the money was raised by paying to have a go on the mic. I love karaoke cos you can have fun singing whilst not being judged on the quality of your performance – just as well in my case! I made sure that I gave my rendition of 'I Will Survive' (yes the family allowed me to do it) before there were too many people there!

John, pictured on the right of the photo, gave a good performance of 'I Believe I Can Fly', and Phil Tufnell gave the Beatles a run for their money with his version of 'Hey Jude'. Tuffers has already raised a huge amount of money for the charity through the charity contributions from the phone calls that helped him win 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' and collectively we raised another £1000 on the night – not a bad effort from the thirty'ish people in attendance.

I will be missing from my Fashion on Friday today as it is the anniversary of my diagnosis and my family wanted to mark the occasion… we're going to Brighton for a bit of fun and laughter! I will be back at work tomorrow though with Pilates at 5pm. Then Sunday is our Beauty Day. Everything is on 4 Easy Pay and the TSV is from Mally… I think you will love it!

I am also with Fiona from Decleor for one of the final airings of the April Beauty Product of the Month. Thanks for all the fabulous quotes you posted on last week's blog and please feel free to post more if you haven't done so already… I love inspirational quotes.

Heading off to the seaside now so see you tomorrow, Julia x

    Hi Julia,
Glad you enjoyed your holiday in Mauritius, Ian and i had a wonderful time in The Gambia, so much so we have booked to go back at end of November for another 2 weeks, before the Christmas rush at the Resturant. Paris for our 1st Anniversary in September. We managed to get tickets to see Blue’s guitarist/ singer Joe Bonamassa on the friday before our anniversary, so looking forward to seeing him and Paris.. I nipped over to our place in southern spain for a few day’s just to sort a few things out for rental’s etc, quite warm for April.Topped the tan up a bit.
Glad all is going well with your book, i havn’t read it so can’t comment, but i see there are a few negative reviews, but then again every book get’s those, so don’t worry, part of life i’m afraid. Hope you are keeping well, i did see you on the Jewellery show and you seemed ok. How long have you got to keep up with the medication or is it a life long thing. ?
Good Luck with the Charity swim, when you do it, i struggle to do 1 length, not a good swimmer at all. lol.
    Take care.

    Hi Julia
Glad to hear that the charity event raised £1000. I always try and donate to charities as much as I can. For lent this year I decided instead of giving up something I would do as much as I could for charity during the lenten period. One charity I helped for the first time was Mary’s Meals, where you put together a back pack full of essential things (a list is provided) that a child would need to go to school, the back packs are then sent out to places such as Malawi to help send children in such countries to school as without the back pack they would be denied an education. I will definately be helping again next year.
Thanks for mentioning me on Monday’s B&W show it was fun to hear my name!lol! As you can probably guess I purchased a few items including the peacock hand mirror – gorgeous!
Looking forward to pilates today at 5pm – I find it such a great stress reliever! Also Beauty Day on Sun, I will definately be tuning in!
Only about 20 chapters to go in your book!Really enjoying it but I don’t want it to end! lol. Always the case with a good book.
    Take care

    Hi Julia
Well done to all who raised money at the Curry-Oke, great idea, although I wouldn’t mind paying, but singing…not! Lucky girl, meeting Tuffers too, he’s so funny!
Hope you had a great time in Brighton. Was it warm enough for a paddle and did you eat all the naughty things, doughnuts, ice cream etc. Whenever we go to the seaside, it’s a bag of chips watching the sun go down…bliss!
Watched your show with Marjolein and I’m really hoping that the pull-up bar will be back in stock for the 4 corded machine…I’ve already told Chris that’s what I want for my Birthday, so fingers crossed!
What a naughty day yesterday…Mally TSV and I just had to try Decleor’s hand cream, as you so highly recommend and considering as you say, years of sunshine, your hands look really good, so I’ll let you know how I get on.
BTW, I bought the WWC pack of 2 trouser/leggings their last TSV, as usual dithered a bit so missed out, but checked back for the black and white set and they were only available in small. I read the reviews and whilst the top end of a size 14, took the plunge. Ooops, I thought when they arrived, I’m never going to get in these…WOW, they are fab-u-lous and so comfy!!!

    Hi Kathy
You are so organised planning your year ahead – we booked Mauritius six days before we travelled – I’m always a bit last minute which is a shame in some respects as you miss the excitement of the anticipation.
Re the reviews, I have had some lovely comments on here and in person that are actually about the book so that is all that matters to me.
I will be on the medication for at least two more years and potentially for life but that will be my Professor’s decision of course – he’s the expert.
The swim will be in July so plenty of time to practise if you want to join in lol!

    Hi Alana
What a great idea to do something that helps others for Lent, good on you!
Gosh you’ve had an expensive couple of weeks with B & W and Beauty Day. I hope you enjoyed the latter – there were so many brilliant offers.
I’m so pleased you are enjoying reading my book and thanks for commenting about it on here. I gave a copy to Marjolein on Saturday and she emailed me yesterday to say that so far I have inspired her to check her number in numerology, buy a green purse and watch James Bond ….. how funny!

    Hello Martin
We only went to Brighton for the afternoon and evening but it was great fun – I’ll pop a couple of pictures up on this week’s blog.
I think Sophie and her flatmate Gilly might start looking for something slightly bigger and with a garden as they now have a cat.
Daniel is really enjoying managing his Crystal Palace u10’s – they are going to France for a tournament soon.
So pleased you enjoyed my book
    Hope you are well

    Hi Annette
Yes I was a lucky girl meeting Phil Tuffnell and he seems a really nice bloke.
Brighton wasn’t really warm enough for a paddle but at least the sun was out for some of the time. It was yes to the hot doughnuts but no to the ice cream and chips a we went for an early evening meal before driving back. I love to watch the sunset with a bag of chips ….. Woolacombe is a lovely location for that – simple things!
I really like the pull-up bar. I don’t do many reps and only on 1 cord as I want toned not bulky arms. I hope we get it back in stock for you.
Let me know how you get on with the Decleor hand cream. One pump is enough during the day but be generous with two or three pumps at night and rub any residue into your elbows ….. I love it (as you probably already know!)

    Hi Julia
Thanks for the advice for the hand cream, it’s on its way! Will definitely let you know how I get on with it.
Already received the Neck Relief TSV on Monday and Mally arrived yesterday…speedy delivery!
I’m really into smoothies at the moment, well both Chris and I actually, because we don’t eat enough fruit and veg, here’s one I had yesterday:
    1 Banana
    5 Strawberries
    1/2 Pear
    Mixed Frozen Berries
    Goji Berries
1tsp Maca Powder (Menopause – one of the things on 34-menopause symptoms website…think I’ve had them all lol!)
    top up with Almond Milk
Scrummy, altho’ if a bit on sweet side substitute with water. The berries make it icy cold, no need to add cubes brill!

Caught one of your shows today – it’s the first time I have been around when one of your shows was on. You looked sensational. The Jewellery wasnt bad either!
Bit of a nail biting weekend coming up for you and your team isnt it. Are you going to the Peterboro game? I am at Ibrox on Saturday. Its our last game of the season so it’s a title celebration!!! Should be good after the year from hell we have been through.
Hope you feel as well as you look

    Hi Julia, Birthday Girl here!
I had an amazing weekend in London. Great hotel overlooking the Thames (near Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, etc). Great food, definitely over indulged, especially at breakfast and need to do extra pilates sessions! ‘Burn the Floor’ was fab ….. second row from the front …….. an impecksable view …. if you know what I mean!! But nothing topped my ‘Feed a Tiger’ experience at Paradise Wildlife Park …… and ‘yes’ I still have all my fingers as I type. Chris had booked it as a surprise and it was totally awesome hand feeding Rocky! What a gorgeous gentle boy he is. I would highly recommend it.
Bad planning on The Q’s part holding Beauty Day on my 50th especially with everything on 4-pay! I have to admit that I did attempt to tune in on Sunday morning but luckily (for Rocky at least who may well have gone hungry!!) I couldn’t get QVC on the hotel TV! OK, maybe the hotel wasn’t all that great! Not to worry, I’m sure I’ll make up for it before long!
The Curry-Oke night sounds fun (I love that play on words) as well as successful. Tuffers always makes me laugh on ‘A Question of Sport’. Hope Brighton was fun.

    Hi Sara
Thank you for your kind remark. I have googled beetroot and will certainly ask my Professor his opinion on betacyanin at my next visit. Haven’t had the chance to check out shiitake mushrooms yet – not a big fan of mushrooms generally but maybe if they have health benefits I’ll have to give them a go

    Hello Annette
I love strawberry and banana smoothies but I must confess I usually pop in a bit of chocolate ice cream so not quite as healthy as yours!
I have been using almond milk for a while now – I switched from soya milk and find it lighter on cereal. I don’t have milk in coffee and only drink fruit tea.

    Hi Hefina
Thanks for trying to leave a review about my book and sorry you were unsuccessful – not to worry it is just lovely to have your feedback on here, particularly as you have now read it at a more leisurely pace. I am on the QVC Selection at 2pm on Saturday talking about it with Simon Biagi – it’s 5 weeks since it was last on but it seems longer as so much has been happening. I have been asked to become an ambassador for the British Polio Fellowship and we have some exciting things planned, including a sponsored swim of 100 lengths(for obvious reasons) which Paralympic swimmer James Crisp is going to join me in – more about that on Saturday.
I will write another book but probably the next one will be a novel. Again so pleased you enjoyed 100 Lengths and hope your sister will enjoy it too

    Hi Steven
Well well well – and I’m not talking about three holes in the ground! Not only did we beat Peterborough to Mae the play-offs we’re in the Play-off final – did you catch either of the games against Brighton on TV? Wilfred Zaha was awesome at the Amex! So looking forward to the trip to Wembley – if we pay like that I think we could win!
I’m doing ok at the moment – just waiting for the results of my latest tests, always a nervous time for me.
Hope you enjoyed Rangers final game of the season

    Hi Julia
Yeah I watched the 2nd leg of the Brighton game. You guys were brilliant in the 2nd half and totally deserved to go through. I tweeted you but I dont know if you know its me! I’ve tweeted you a few times but never had anything back :-(
Anyway fingers crossed for the Final. Will you be going I take it? Zahas parting gift – a winning goal inthe play off finl quite fitting sounding isnt it!
Stage 1 complete for the Rangers – at times we didnt play great football but with all the upheaval from last season its no real surprise. We can sign players to register them on the 1st Sept after our transfer ban so fingers crossed we can build up the squad and get in a few quality additions to help some of the kids.
Fingers crossed for your results Julia. Wishing you all the best as I’m sure many others are too. You are in most QVC viewers thoughts I’m sure
Take care and…… c’mon the Eagles :D xxxxx
