– Pop star replay – Mick Hucknall's song and interview from my gift show!
– 'Skyfall' – Daniel Craig bare chest alert!
– And could this be the reason for hot flushes? (and I don't mean Daniel's chest!)
Ohhhh what a fabulous show we had on Saturday night last week! Not only did we get my presenter mate Craigy taking off his make-up live on the Liz Earle sell (limited edition Cleanse and Polish gift set is 201500), we also had Will in the Green Room with Mick under his Slanket! Well almost! Lol. As one Tweeter said to me – 'you really do have the best job, Debbie!' (@debbieflint).
Yes, Mick Hucknall was our special guest, and boy, did he do us proud. After a superb Tuesday appearance, he kindly joined us again on Saturday night, for some more wonderful songs and another look at his new CD. It's still on advanced order so you have to ring the operator and ask for his 'American Soul' album – but it's dispatched quite soon, so if you'd like to have Mick crooning to YOU in your own front room, order it now! And what a live performer. Here's 'I Only Have Eyes For You'.
We had a fantastic chat and it was lovely to have such a big name in our studio. By popular demand, here's the interview again.
Now I did get kindly given a copy of the CD but since I already ordered one for myself (yes, I really did) I'm thinking that I may put it up for a competition prize! Would you like me to do that? Or what do you think I should do with it? Keep it?? Or else there's a suggestion on Facebook that I should donate it to a viewer's BCC auction – where anyone could bid for Mick's signed CD. What do you think I should do?
I asked my Facebookers, (join me on https://www.facebook.com/DebbieFlintQVCFanpage?ref=hl ) and had over 60 comments on that topic alone! So do add your vote to the debate, by leaving me a comment below – especially if you don't normally comment on blogs! (put your name, email – kept private – and your comment, then press post. Easy! Go to bottom of this blog and do it now!) Blog comp, charity donation, or keep it?! If you were me, what would you do? Lol.
Anyway it is truly a fabulous album of covers – all American soul and blues based numbers – an eclectic mix of songs from Mick's all-time favourites list – eg. 'It's Impossible', 'I'd Rather Go Blind', which he also performed in the studio, and my own fave – 'Tell It Like It Is'. Goooorgeous version!
It really was a super fun 'Saturday Night Gifts' show. In fact, it's becoming quite a weekly diary date for many, so why not record the other channels and join us live instead! This week, (November 3rd) I believe the Military Wives are singing for us, plus we have a Bose TSV and Red Carpet Manicure returns (also see below in Footnotes).
Susan Graver update – plus – soya milk flushes?
Poor old Susan Graver was one of the many caught up in the delays caused by Hurricane Sandy in east coast USA this week, as she was telling us on air on my Sunday night show with her. At the time of writing I'm still awaiting news as to whether or not she made it back to QVC US in Philadelphia midweek. Scary. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy over there.
As usual she had lots of wonderful designs, and some fun chat! One of the topics of conversation during our show was the fact that a lot of her cool touch fabrics are great for 'wafting' if you get hot flushes!
When I revealed that my own flushes – or 'glowing moments' – or 'personal summers' had subsided, due, I think, to ending my soya milk latte indulgences, (as soya milk has high phytoestrogens and maybe that was connected), well, I got quite a few people asking for more info 'cos they're in the same boat! I can't promise you'll get the same result as me, but i'’s worth researching. There are a lot of articles on the net, so just Google 'soya milk and hot flushes' and see what you find. Meanwhile I can recommend Alpro Almond Milk – the fresh kind is my fave!
But I can also say that if you come along to the talk in December in Surrey from Marlene Watson-Tara, you can find out much more about how your diet can affect your illnesses – and of course weight loss! Her advice is one of the reasons I've lost so much weight since April when I converted to a macrobiotic diet.
The talk is on Friday evening December 7th, 7pm-9pm I think; you can email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info. Hopefully I'll see you at the talk! Meanwhile, to that end, here's an example of my weekly shop – this is from the day after I returned from LA – gagging for spring greens! Lol.
Tons of fresh produce – soooo good for you! And not a soya milk in sight! Just fresh almond milk instead. Also – note the reading material – I wasn't joking when I said that's what I buy! What's your weekly read?
Skyfall under review
OMG what an amazingly popular film the latest Bond is! As promised here's that review 'cos I saw it on opening day. Well, some are calling it the greatest outing so far and I must admit, Daniel Craig is definitely the best in my opinion! (or IMO as we say online!) It's his intensity as well as his commanding presence that does it – oh and his physique has a little to do with my liking Bond again it has to be said! Lol.
Now as you can see in the pic, he doesn't know if he'll be 'too old', at 44, to continue playing the secret agent. But I totally disagree. In fact, keep yourself in shape, Daniel, and as far as I'm concerned, you can carry on till you're 54! What do you think?? Leave me a comment below and also, who's your favourite Bond and why? Now take a look at the trailer -
This is definitely the most dark, tongue-in-cheek version we've had of our favourite British spy. There's a twist at the end I won't reveal, but it does open up the path for a new era ahead of us for sure. I love the addition of the new Q – one of my faves, Ben Whishaw (BBC's 'The Hour', 'Brightstar') and there are more than a couple of nods to the past – perfect for this 50th anniversary year.
Nevertheless, you still have to suspend disbelief on a couple of the plot twists (OK so I'm a fusspot, but you know that by now, regulars!) so it doesn't score the highest marks from me – but there's still enough chasing and tension and scintillating Craig moments to keep you on the edge of your seat, 007 style. Have you seen it? Tell me what you think below. Score? I've been pondering this one – and it all comes down to whether or not I'd recommend seeing it on the big screen, and whether I'd watch it again. And the answer is yes, and yes. So a big eight and three quarters for me.
P.S. And for your delight and delectation, this week's bloopers are here – Best of Bond Bloopers! How topical!
So yes, in answer to the Tweets, (@debbieflint) it is OK for sensitive skins – if they're anything like mine!
– Lack of sleep – oh oh! Science alert! If you click this pic to enlarge it, you can read the latest New Scientist article about weight loss – apparently something happens when you sleep – or rather – when you don't!
Maureen's also known as 'Isabelle Goddard' and she's on her fifth novel for Mills & Boon – we're so proud that one of our Tuscany group got published! She had a freebie on offer for you all on Amazon this week too – go see if it's still available if you like ebook romances.
– The second was with one of my long term bestest buddies, fabulous Jonny P – ex-director at QVC – you can imagine how we put the world to rights talking 'selly telly' over supper in the nearby gastro pub in Dorking, the Wotton Hatch! (He's on the market too, girls, if you fancy a date with a Shrewsbury guy! He's available – even if I'm not, before you ask! Haha! Tweet me if you're interested! LolI He'll kill me but I don't care!) Nice to catch up with friends – even if it's not in sunny LA.
P.S. Yes I did have the 'back from holiday blues' – and the darker nights didn't help! But lots to look forward to over the next few months – and having all the pretty Christmas decorations up at work always helps!
QVC - what's coming up? Well, another weekend, another 'Saturday Night Gifts' show! And it's my pleasure to tell you that, I believe(!), my lovely sister Linda Bignell will be back on air guesting the long-awaited return of the Red Carpet Manicure!
The LED gel nail varnish system you can do yourself at home will be showcased with a thorough 'how to' – if you've noticed my own nails of late, they've really grown long under the protection of the hard outer varnish system! Am very pleased! Do join us and our regulars, and the Bose guest if TSV lasts that long, between 8-10pm on Saturday night (November 3rd).
Nearly November already! Other highlights from the next few days include Charlie Bears Today's Special Value on Monday 5th November – looking forward to my evening show – join me at 10pm. Then I'll be watching the new look 'Masterclass with Michael diCesare' on Tuesday evening – lots of hints about good hair at 10pm, from a man who should know! And an EMU TSV on Tuesday too!
Have a great week! And do comment below!
P.S. Well done to our lucky winner of the goodie bag and 'Time's Echo' by Pam Hartshorne, from the blog here – chosen at random from all the entries (on all the different blog posts) – Tess Wysock, well done!
