Settling in to the new house

Hi everyone!

Wow, I can't believe there's only a week of January left, where did that time go? I must admit I'm not a huge January fan I always feel it's such an anti climax after the buzz of Christmas.

I feel much more settled in the new house now, although my missing colander and glass jugs still haven't turned up yet, which is really weird and I'm sure their whereabouts will remain a mystery forever. Have you ever lost any stuff during a move?

I'm now in the stage of wanting all the decorating done yesterday, which I know is not possible but I'm added personal touches here and there, which has definitely made it feel like home. I'm on the verge of ordering some new sofas in either a honey-beige colour or a statement red and I think I'm going to go for the bright red, which is very bold for me.

I'm 80% decided, it's just that if I don't like them once they are in the room there's no going back, but hey, it's a new decade and I'm feeling brave so I think I'm going to go for it!

Wish me luck and I'll let you know if I bottle out at the last minute and play it safe with the beige!

what ever you do, you will always wish you had the other
colour. Thats how I find it is anyway. Have had our deep
red suite for a couple of years now, and how I wish I had
gone for the violet velvet chesterfield. However, if I had
done I would be wishing it had been red. Perhaps you can
find a red and honey beige stripe …..

    Hi Jilly
Good luck to you and your family in your new home.
I moved in August and I still cannot find my egg cup and some herbs – I know I packed them but I just cannot find them!!
When I moved I decided on a cream suite and I am so glad I did – I nearly went for cream with a brown centre pattern but I know that will date and I think the red one will too. It is your choice but play safe – be more daring with something you don’t have to see or use everyday. Perhaps it is just me being a “chicken”.
    Take care.

Hi Jilly, oh go on. Go for red. You can always cover it with throws from QVC after all. It will brighten up a dull day and I always like rooms with red walls too. Friendly and it reduces the size of the room if it is large and you paint it red (optically only of course).
Glad the house is feeling more like home and I hope that you all have a healthy, happy time in your new home.

Hi Jilly – glad to hear that you are settling into your new house – its always a lot of hard work but well worth the effort when you get things the way you want them!
Eight years ago my husband got a new job in the highlands and we had to move from central Lanarkshire . It was a big step leaving friends and family and was made worse because when we moved up at first we were in rented accomodation for three months while we looked for something suitable to buy.
So not one but two moves within a three month period – with absolutely no one to help us during the second one !!! We got through it though and the only thing we lost were some old football programmes. I wasn’t too bothered I must admit but my husband was gutted – he’s an avid Rangers fan and had collected them for ages.
We have searched high and low – they are no where to be seen and we dont even know if they were lost during the first move or the second!!!
If I were you I would go for the red sofas – neutral walls , neutral floors and gorgeous red sofas will look simply stunning!
    Good luck Jilly x
