Santa Claus is coming…

Tiffany Style Santa Firstly I just want to say a very big thank you to all of you who have read and commented on my blog over the past year. Your comments have been kind, thoughtful, complimentary and amusing, and I also love the way you sometimes send messages to each other too. Hopefully we will have another great year of communication in 2011.

I wonder if any of you were watching the Tiffany Style lighting show I presented last Friday on QVC? Most of you will know I love these colourful lights and have 22 at last count! However I had forgotten to get out my Santa light when we put up the Christmas decorations and doing the show reminded me.

One slight problem, I couldn't remember where I had put it in the move! I knew I had put it somewhere in readiness for Christmas, but where???? We searched high and low and eventually I had a 'light bulb' moment (quite literally) and found it in the games cupboard – obviously the thought process was that we only tend to play family board games at Christmas now that the children are older! Anyway he is now illuminating the hall and welcoming visitors!

Speaking of visitors, we have had a lot of the feathered variety since the cold weather started as I have been putting out plenty of crumbs for the birds. We have had 3 robins, which is apparently unusual as they are very territorial and only allow other birds into 'their' garden if there is no food around, blackbirds, sparrows and pigeons.

So don't throw your leftovers away this Christmas – pop them outside for our wildlife!

I truly hope that wherever you are, whoever you are with and whatever you are doing this Christmas, you are able to enjoy it. And I wish you all the best for a Happy and Healthy new year!

Much love,
Julia xx

    Hi Julia
What a lovely Santa, glad you had the ‘light bulb’ moment, I certainly get loads of them, especially trying to remember names when watching TV and then they pop up out of nowhere and you’re thinking, where did that come from!!
How spooky… we’ve got 3 robins in our garden who visit our feeding station outside the kitchen window and not so long ago had Mr & Mrs woodpecker and baby too! Chris has been out there 3-4 times a day in this weather, feeding them fat balls, peanuts, robin seed and replacing their water when it freezes over.
We also had a little field mouse who had a home in the border and kept leaping out of the bushes onto the bird station. Chris was so worried about him leaping, he built him a little bridge across and he started using it straight away! We used to stand there for ages watching him, it was hysterical!
All the best for 2011 and look forward to seeing you back on 29th after a well earned break!

Hi Julia, thank you for your good wishes, and the very same to you.I hope you enjoy your Christmas in your new home.I’ve just popped in here wasting a few minutes after stuffing the turkey and putting away the cooled mince pies, cheese straws etc.I’m sure you’ve got the picture :) and am looking forward to the big day.Next Christmas hopefully we shall be in another new home.We have had so many moves I’m used to losing and mislaying a few things.(To say the least). The next move being the last, all fingers crossed. We downsized 3 years ago, but it’s still not quite down as it were!..I love the Santa light by the way, and I’ve the cockeral one in my kitchen, and 2 of the standard lamps (both different) in 2 other rooms, and I’m not moving anywhere if they can’t come with me.I know it sounds silly but I absolutely love them, and they are part of my home.So there! :)
Yes, we must remember the wild life, and it’s a must when the weather is so cold isn’t it?.. well must be off and get myself scrubbed up, and nails sorted if there’s time.Happy Christmas Julia and wishing you and yours a Happy and Healthy New Year.
    Take care,
    Lynda R.xx

    Morning Julia
I hope you had a lovely day yesterday.
Just thought I would let you know. The xmas eve wedding that we were so looking forward to, had to be postponed. Very sad news. The grooms brother, who was to be Best man. Was tragically involved in a car accident on the way home on the 23rd. Unfortunately, he didnt survive. Obviously, we are all in shock and just spent yesterday looking at each other and shaking our heads. Presents are all still under the tree, as none of us had the heart to open them. I have no idea when we will even think about opening them.
Anyway Julia, just thought I would let you know. So sorry to bring such a “downer” to your lovely blog.
Hoping next year is good for all of us.
    Lots of love

    Hi Julia,
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas Day!? We still have masses of snow but finally a thaw is beginning we think!! Whahay! Wintertrax are a pair..but mind the slush still as don’t think anything grips to that!! Hope your Mum got hers? I just read your last replies & read that you have underfloor heating in your new house?! Amazing!! Soo jealous! That would be so toasty in this weather! We have been freezing as it’s been the worst weather we’ve had in a lot of years and lots of burst pipes for Christmas Day. Enjoy your long break & see you in 2011!

    Hi Annette
Hope you and Chris had a good Christmas? We had a real family affair – pressie opening, a lovely lunch, a very short walk ( cos it was ice underfoot ) and t.v. and games in the evening. Just what the doctor ordered!
I got your card – you had missed Poppy off but I told her you sent your love!
We’ve had loads of birds visiting, add to my list magpies and we’ve also got a squirrel coming – lovely to watch from the kitchen window.
    much love

    Hi Steven
Christmas was good but our Boxing Day game against Norwich was called off due to a frozen pitch – shame as I was going to go!
Yesterday we were away to Bristol City and were a goal up until the 95th minute!! Still a point is better than nothing.
We have Millwall on New Years Day. Hope Rangers continue with their decent run

    Hello Lynda
Hope you managed to get your nails done?!?
Sounds like you put on quite a feast – haven’t made cheese straws in years, must give them a go!
I’m with you on the Tiffany style lights – no matter what the house is like they just give it a homely feel don’t they.
Happy and healthy 2011 and good luck with your next and ‘final’ move

    Hi Susan
Back on air later today so not quite 2011 but the break has been really enjoyable and recharged the batteries somewhat!
I gave my Wintertrax away as pressies to my mum and Chris’s mum, I decided their need was greater than mine! But good news I just ordered some more this morning as they are back in stock …. that should put an end to all the snow!

Julia, Bless you for taking the time to send your lovely Xmas card! It came today along with a few other from those in the States. The wild weather both here and there has delayed everything.I do hope it will calm down for the rest of the winter.
My mince pies were fine. I add cranberries to mine an old Cape Cod thing they do. We need a QVC cook book for BCC for next year! It would do well with so many of us who come from here and there. Thank you for the Bra secret! I have gone into that store many times when I am there visiting. Never am able to find “G” cup with a very small back! It is a nice shop for all kinds of pretty things. REMEMBER, if there is anything you must have like our Jeans please tell me and I will find what you want on my Spring visit. You have my details to be in touch.
A Happy, Healthy New Year to you and yours! Eating to live is the best way! You look so well! I have been on Dr Hay’s diet for years and it really has kept me in balance with all the stress life brings to all of us! Love you to bits, Ginny xx
Una, My prayers are with you and all those involved. After reading your note to Julia I could not eat my dinner. Bless XX

    Hi Steven
Good luck against Celtic …………. I wonder if Freddie Ljungberg will be eligible to play?? I always liked him when he was with Arsenal!! Millwall v Palace is a ‘local’ derby and an early kick off on the back off New Years Eve so I’m hoping there won’t be any crowd trouble. It really angers me when so-called ‘football fans’ go along to games just to taunt their rivals – I thought the point was to watch the football?
Hope you enjoy the Hogmany celebrations

    Hi Ginny
Glad to hear you got the card eventually – I’m afraid I wasn’t able to send cards to everyone this year as I am still receiving them ……… a combination of the weather and Christmas falling on a Saturday I think. I just received a parcel this morning that was posted on the 23rd guaranteed next day delivery – oh well, as least we have power and water!
Adding the cranberries sounds a lovely idea – I’m not keen on them normally but have them in a porridge with raspberries and it’s yummy!! I think a viewer / Presenter cookbook with all profits going to BCC would be a great idea if they could do it
in time – I will ask the question.
I’m sure I’ll speak to before but if not have a great trip to the States in the Spring and generally a happy and healthy 2011
    much love

    Hi Julia
Sounds like you had a lovely family Christmas and I’m so glad you lovely Mum managed to get there too despite the snow and ice! Thanks for giving Poppy my love for missing her off your Christmas card and nice to hear she likes your under floor heating!
Chris and I had a pretty quiet Christmas because of the weather. We normally go out for a long walk on Christmas morning, but gave it a miss this year… the last thing he wanted was for me to fall and injure myself, it would put me back months, so I’ve been under ‘house arrest’ so to speak! I did manage to break out at the weekend though LOL!
I can’t wait to finish all the festive goodies, you can imagine with Chris in control of the shopping… the worst things he has bought are desserts! Thorntons have a chocolate mousse with a liquid chocolate centre and the Co-op chocolate puds with the liquid Baileys cream inside… it would have been rude not to try them, wouldn’t it ???
Take care and Happy New Year!

I am glad to hear you have power & water after all the thaws by the way! I said to Ali that you will have seen our ‘disaster’ on the news – how precious water is. I will be very glad to see the back of 2010 aong with many others I know. Bring on a good year!

    Hi Julia
I hope you had a good new year. I think you may have been working, but Im sure you all had a nice time anyway.
Thank you so much to everyone for your very kind words and good wishes. Its been a weird couple of weeks to say the least. Due to the holiday, there have been so many delays, and unfortunately the funeral doesnt take place until Thursday, so it feels like its just being dragged out.
On a positive note. This lovely young man has changed the lives of people literally around the world. His organs have all been used and his family are being updated by the hospital liaison people. Everyone is recovering well, and all should make a good recovery. Had it happened a few days earlier, it would have been a different story, as airports were still closed, and time would have been an issue, as they would not have been able to transport the organs to where they needed to be. We have to be grateful for small mercies as they say.
Im so sorry if i upset anyone, but I had promised to send Julia some wedding photos, and I know she would be wondering. I think I may have been on autopilot at the time, but once again, thank you for taking time out from your holidays to leave a message. Its very thoughtful and very much appreciated.
Lots of love and best wishes for a happy new year.

Happy New Year. My New Year was good as long as we don’t mention the football! Totally agree with you about the rival fans. Millwall fans especially seem to have a bad reputation that way. What do you make of Mr Burley getting sacked? Did you agree with it? Hope things improve for our teams in the months ahead!
Hope you had a good New Year and stay looking fab in 2011 xxx

    Hello Steven
I think George Burley’s departure was on the cards – I think I have said as much here over the last few weeks!
I am pleased Dougie Freedman has been given the chance to manage Palace – he truly knows and loves the club – he almost single-handed kept us in the Championship a few years back in a last day relegation battle against Stockport County so the fans all love him. It is a big ask though for a young inexperienced Manager and I am wondering who he will bting in as his number 2 … possibly Ray Lewington ( currently at Fulham and not really being appreciated!! )
How are Rangers doing? – I know Celtic only just managed a draw last weekend!
Hope you enjoyed your New Year celebrations?

Hi Julia – missed this post. Spookily I have sort of answered a couple of your questions on one of my other posts in your most recent blog. We play Inverness tomorrow and cut the gap to 2 points if we win and would still have 2 games in hand.
I like Dougie Freedman – he is a Scot and put it this way he supports the right side of the divide as far as this young man is concerned in Glasgow lol!!! I said in my other post Swansea would be tough and so it proved. Tough baptism for Mr Freedman. Things can only get better! Do Palalce have a midweek game?
PS Sorry for the crossing o f posts I forgot to check here before posting on your other topic although it was on topic and not just about the football so i think you shall let me off. I had another gym session today in anticiaption for the footie tomorrow – I’m away for a lie down now ha ha
