We thought it would be fun to find out a little more about Brand Ambassador Ruth Langsford’s favourites. So we posed a few questions, let’s see what she loves…
Colour – probably orange! As people will see from my Fashion Edit and indeed my own range. In fact I am wearing an orange top today from my range.
Book – ‘When I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning’ by Laurie Lee, the author who wrote ‘Cider with Rosie’. It’s all about him leaving home from a little Welsh village at 17, with his guitar, and he busked his way down through Spain – before anyone was ever really doing that sort of travelling. It’s a really fascinating book and I love it!
Actor– Al Pacino – one of my favourite films is Frankie and Johnny with Michelle Pfeiffer – it’s a great romantic film without being schmaltzy.
Actress – probably Michelle Pfeiffer.
Super hero – probably Spiderman because my son Jack who is now 15 and 6’2″ was a massive fan. I have lots of embarrassing pictures of him dressed up as Spiderman, which I’ll probably be prepared to show on his 18th birthday party – I could never get him out of his Spiderman outfit!
Movie genre – I like romantic dramas, I don’t really like soppy romance, something like ‘The Intern’ which I saw recently.
Villain – I don’t like villains they’re naughty!
Fruit – that’s hard because I love fruit. Raspberries probably just tip it – at the height of the season and when they’re really sweet.
Vegetable – definitely broccoli, but it has to be well cooked, I don’t like it ‘al dente’.
Ice-cream – my mum tells me that ice-cream was one of her cravings when she was pregnant with me, so I’m convinced I’ve inherited her love for it! I could eat a big tub just to myself. One of my favourites is dulce de leche.
Restaurant – it’s a lovely restaurant in Portugal, on the beach, called Maria’s. The restaurant overlooks the sea, and they do fabulous Sunday lunches, with a jazz band playing, It’s really beautiful.
Song – ‘Let’s Get it On’ by Marvin Gaye.
Game – I love Scrabble, and I’m quite good at it! I hate Monopoly because it just goes on for days. Also there used to be a board game called Buccaneer – with a pirate ships, and you had to go to an island and collect treasure, and there were pearls and rubies so my sister and I loved it. But my dad used to be the pirate that would steal all the jewels and would win every time. I don’t even think you can buy it anymore.
Food/Dish – my mum’s shepherd’s pie.
TV show – I love Modern Family, I watch it all the time, even the repeats, it never gets boring. I also love Will & Grace, which I think is coming back.
School subject – I didn’t have many favourites. Interestingly I really enjoyed Latin, which people find very odd. I liked languages, so I quite enjoyed it.
City – it’s got to be London. I’ve been to Paris and New York, but I love it here, the architecture, the parks are beautiful, I like the pace of London.
Drink – a gin and tonic.
Holiday – before we had Jack, Eamonn and I went to Cape Town and that was incredible, but I actually just enjoy our family holidays the most. We normally go to Portugal, we know a lot of the places and restaurants, and we like the chilled time.
Animal – it’s got to be my rescue dog Maggie from The Dog’s Trust. She’s so cute, we just adore her. It was the best thing we ever did.
Teacher – I had an English teacher called Miss Ritzeema, and I remember she was really strict, with an eyebrow that she used to arch up. We were all a little scared of her which is how she managed to keep our attention, but also, she was very inspiring. I went to an all-girls school and she really drummed it into us that we could be whoever we wanted to be, if we just worked hard.
Season – probably spring. My birthday’s in March, and I love this time when the new buds are coming up and the spring flowers are out, the daffodils and crocuses, I love the idea of new beginnings and new awakenings.
Memory – I think my dad taking me fishing. He’s not with us anymore, but he was a new man before the words were invented. He had two girls and he used to do lots of stuff with us. He taught us to sail, he took us fishing, and he would often take us out so that my mum could have some time to herself. I remember sitting with him, by the riverbank on a three-legged stool, holding my little fishing rod and he told me to watch it float and when it bobbed that meant I’d caught a fish. I remember being so mesmerised, I was rocking on the stool and rocked straight over and into the water!
Place – just home. I’m an army child and we moved around a lot, so now home is really special to me, I’m quite a home-bird.
Skincare product – Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish – I’ve used it for years (pictured above).
Pampering treat – I love having pedicures, ever since I was pregnant and couldn’t see my own feet, so I would get them done. I love Margaret Dabbs’ products and her on-air demonstrations are really good too.
Gadget – definitely my Fitbit. It encourages me to do my 10,000 steps every day.
Article of clothing – I love the top I’m wearing (pictured above). I wanted to design a T-shirt top that was a little bit smarter than the average T-shirt, so that when you take your jacket off, you don’t feel under-dressed. It’s got a little gold zip at the back and shaped hemline so it looks nice under a jacket and on its own. It washes well and I love the colours. It comes in Black, White, Orange and Navy, so really good staple shades.
Look out for more from Ruth coming very soon, until then take a look at her fashion range.
