Rounders, hair rollers and film recommendations…

Alison Keenan playing rounders Firstly, thank you all very much for playing my 'spot the ball' competition in an earlier post… you were of course correct in saying it was behind me and to the left.

However… I though you might like to see where the ball was just a fraction of a second earlier. In a truly dramatic action shot this was the moment immediately before I hit myself in the face with the bat… just before the ball got me!

You've got to laugh… I say that because everyone's who's seen the photograph has! Out loud!

Anyway, the long and short of it is that I am no longer on the team, and have handed over the baton of power to Debbie Greenwood… well I had until I found out she's on holiday, so if any of you wish to add to our somewhat depleted numbers that'd be grand.

I managed to finally catch up with Kathy Tayler just before she heads off on her summer holiday.  Love her hair longer don't you? As we share a dressing room it goes without saying that we share our velcro rollers… I think we've started a bit of a craze. Saw Alison Young the other night with hers in too!  Dale's rather picky about sharing though…

Had Lucy and her lovely chap Richard over for supper last night, which was a great success. Was very strange waving her off at the end of the evening though, but she's coming back soon to watch The Hours with me – the film in which Nicole Kidman looks more like Tom Cruise than herself – but in essence the story of Virginia Woolf's life.

I'm sure it'll be one heck of a contrast to Hangover which we took the boys to see at the weekend. It's a hoot. Now I truly know what guys get up to on a Stag weekend… although the live tiger came as a surprise even to me.

Seen any good movies lately? The new Harry Potter perhaps? I'd love some recommendations even if it's just to hire a DVD!

Enjoy your week, and I'll look forward to hearing from you.

Love Ali xx

Hello Ali, I am just starting to learn what it feels like to wave a child off, as my son is just getting ready to start uni in september… I think I’m more anxious and worried than him! – who ever had the idea that children need to grow up?
I have seen some very good films lately; transformers 2 is excellent and well worth a trip to the cinema as is the new Harry Potter (well that goes without saying really doesn’t it)
Wolverine and Star Trek were also enjoyable, but if you fancy hiring a DVD then Miss Congeniality 1 and 2 are must see movies – they’ll have you laughing instantly!
    Good luck with the rounders…

Hi Catherine, I know exactly how you feel! Your son will be fine, and once you take him there, get him settled in, and know where he’s going to be living it doesn’t seem so bad. All that said, I have to admit to crying on the train from Derby back home, having left Lucy at Uni. Something I did notice was that all the things like ironing, tidying, cooking etc. they didn’t seem able to do at home, suddenly became second nature! 🙂 Thanks for your film tips. The boys have seen Transformers and I’d love to see that. You’re right about Miss Congeniality – I’ve seen both and I roared. I did make the mistake of watching Seven Pounds with Will Smith night before last. Cry? I was awash! Most embarrasing in front of Sam too. That said, it’s an amazing movie if you’re feeling brave. Thanks for writing, and enjoy your weekend. Ali x

    Hi Alison
This is completely off-topic but I notice your hands are always so well groomed. Can you tell me what you use on your nails, please?

    Hi Sue,
That’s very nice of you to comment! I actually use Elemis’s fab hand cream, and also OPI cuticle oil, but my nail polish is Leighton Denny’s butterfly wings. As some of my nails are quite ridged, I find a base coat very useful to smooth them out. I have to thank my manicurist Colette though, as she’s been looking after my nails ever since I started working at QVC and does a fab job with them. Lovely to hear from you.
    Ali x
