On last week's blog, I put up a picture of me taken during the Eighties which was an Athena poster and it prompted Susan to comment about the variety of different things I have done in my life and how lucky I am. Looking back I have to say I sometimes can't believe that I actually did some of the things, they seem so long ago… well let's face it, some of them are!!!!
From the early beginnings of being on the cover of the Bero Cookery Book aged 10, the dancing career, being a club DJ in London, the record deal, teaching fitness, The Price is Right and so much more, I can honestly say I have really enjoyed the variety – never a dull moment!
It hasn't always been easy, particularly when I was doing predominantly TV commercials and a little bit of modelling, because you have to go to auditions/castings and you have to learn to deal with rejection. The trick is not to take it personally – you just didn't meet the criteria of what the producer or client had in mind.
It looks like Sophie will follow me with her choice of career, having already been in two girl bands and performed at the O2. She's also hoping to do something I have never done and that is to appear in a calendar… and for this she needs your help. Let me explain.
How you can help…
You may well have read in previous blogs that Sophie's boyfriend is in the army. He is a Colour Sergeant in the Coldstream Guards and his tours of duty have included both Iraq and Afghanistan .When Sophie saw an advertisement looking for models with links to the Armed Forces, for the 'Pin-Up for Heroes' 2011 calendar she didn't hesitate.
This year's calendar raised over £5,500 for the 'Help For Heroes' charity and it was its first year. The theme for the 2011 calendar is 'forces sweethearts', with the final calendar shots being in a Forties/Fifties pin-up style. She was selected to be one of the final 30 girls, out of over 200 who applied, to attend a test shoot. With a bit of research and some help from my Mum, Sophie chose her look and went off to the photo session – the result of which you can see here.
If you would like Sophie to be one of the final 12 to feature in the calendar, please click on the link below and give Sophie a 'thumbs up' (voting ends at midnight on 31st May).
Thanks in advance and I'll let you know how she gets on.
