- My fun week off in Devon and pics from the spa at Champneys writing break
- Some really funny pics and posts online including a cat called ‘Kitler’
- Plus Liz Earle competition – how to win a goodie bag!
By the way I have no idea what that mark is on my chin – honest! I think it’s a splodge (technical term!) on the camera lens – Lol.
First this week, what a fabulous week of annual leave I’ve had – off to see my writing pal Alix at the weekend, then off to a mini break at Champneys to write lots more of my novel! In fact, what culminated in my uploading the complete steamy Hawaiian Escape, began with my making a strange discovery… read on, all will be revealed!
Race Night in Belstone
Well, my lovely writing group pal Alix did me proud again last weekend by putting me up, in exchange for me getting her onto Goodreads and doing her first ever blog! Go here to read it if you’re interested in life in a small country village on the edge of romantic Dartmoor!
It’s almost like a second home to me, I wouldn’t be surprised if I retired down there one day! Well, it was nice joining in with the village life somewhat when on Saturday night we went along to Josh the Scout’s fundraising Race Night!
At one point we had an ‘auction’ to be an owner and I ended up being the one to ‘ride the hobby horse’ up the hall in front of everyone – cheers all round! The rest of them were kids. Silly Debbie!
We had a lot of fun, betting on which colour hobby horse would win all down to the roll of the dice. And young Josh the Scout raised a few hundred pounds more towards his overall three grand total needed for his trip to the Far East next year to represent his area scouts.
Lovely evening, I really enjoyed it.
The Curious Case of the Deb in the Nightime
As many of you may know, I’m a bat. I’m nocturnal, I can’t help it. I like to stay up till late writing and this time of night (currently 4.18am Thursday night!) is my time of night.
However, I did adjust it a little at Alix’s as she’s an early bird, and it’s only polite. However, once I got to Champneys in Forest Mere, my other regular haunt (dontcha just love special offers!?), I slipped back into my usual routine.
Which meant there was me, padding round the corridors going down to the coffee room to get more drinks, when everyone else is asleep! And there’s me, in the deserted pool alone – one of those moments with totally still water just waiting for you to jump in it! (see top pic)
Well jump I did, a couple of times, plus had some lovely treatments again, including Thalasotherapy. Bless you.
However, it was all about the writing.
The pic above was the view from my ‘writing room’ and all I could hear was birdsong. Until a little freshly spa-d hen party came in the room to have a last coffee before they left. And this was one of the snippets of conversation I heard. Just had to share it with you. Got to make it into one of my books at some point!
"So I said to her, like 'if you're moving to Ipswich to work in three weeks, how are you gonna learn the language?' and she was like 'what are you talking about?' and she laughed at me 'cos I told her I thought Ipswich was in Germany. Hahahhah!" Everyone laughed.
"You idiot," one said
"Well I just thought that it sounded like a polish word."
"But Poland’s not Germany."
Well I will miss having my lovely fresh salads and veggie meals all ready and waiting for me in the picturesque room with a view, as well as being able to go take classes. But the good news is that I have more annual leave I must use up, and most of that will be spent writing breaks over the next couple of months – including being back at Champneys with Craigy middle of March for a couple of nights! Yay!
And now it’s home to the poggies to see how mad they get when they see me walking back through the gate! And thanks to family for dog-sitting while I was away! A lovely break, really needed it. Back on air Sunday (see QVC bit below.)
BACK TO YOU – HEALTH SLOT – THE HORMONE THAT MAKES YOU FAT
(Tying in with our Back to You QVC Facebook group, supporting QVC’s show all about helping you get back to a happy you (returns in September), here’s our weekly update!)
I must admit I did get a little distracted whilst away, as I kept up the social media!
I took her advice and watched it whilst I was away at the spa break, (well I watched the sign-language 2.40am repeat online!) and utterly fascinating it was too.
It talked about the hormone leptin, that helps to stop us overeating and how it could make us fat. Go here to see on iPlayer the whole of ‘The Fantastical World of Hormones with Professor John Wass’ (before Wednesday 6th).
And if you don’t see it, I’m going to summarise some of it on this week’s B2U blog on my website page (link below).
But it raises some interesting questions about why we are so out of touch with how our bodies should function. BUT anyone who’s watched ‘Sugar the Bitter Truth,’ Dr Robert Lustig’s Youtube sensation, may recall the section where he shows you how leptin gets disrupted if you eat too much sugar.
Watch it, you may be amazed if you can put two and two together like I did. Puts you off eating processed sugars for life eh! I was appalled to see ‘fructose’ being offered in little sachets on the tables at Champneys too – as if it’s a good thing! Yuk! Go to debbieflint.com for more on this topic.

READ IT WRITE IT SELL IT
RiWiSi – my weekly look at all things book!
Book of the Week – '61 Hours' – by Lee Child - Ok so I’m becoming a bit of a Jack Reacher groupie. But quite frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn when his books are this good!
Jack Reacher 14 kept me riveted on my long journeys to and from Devon and Hampshire this week, and rightly so – this is one of his most nail-biting, and with a quirky ending too – can’t wait to read book 15 in the series.
Not happy that I’ve only got another few to go until I’m totally caught up! And the reading of the audio book was as ever, brilliant, by one of my fave narrators, Jeff Harding. nine out of ten, as ever.
Plus see QVC GUESTS SURPRISES below for Cashmasoft guest Donna Couling’s new eBook!
By Popular Demand – the complete Steamy Hawaiian Escape is now available! Hot on the heels of last week’s upload of steamy chapter 20, I had so many people asking me to hurry up and publish the entire steamy novel, as that’s what they were waiting for during my week away, I did it!
For more about my other titles see bottom of this blog.
Writing a book?
One of the things we self-publishers love is a success story. So here’s another one.
On the tail end of the hot debate in the publishing world about self-publishing vs traditional publishers earnings, Kerry Wilkinson tells all about bucking the trend for authors to complain about lack of help from their traditional publisher.
After selling 400,000 eBooks, he got a six book deal with Pan MacMillan for his Jessica Daniel crime series and they’ve been marvellous in helping promote his book to a brand new audience. This flies in the face of the usual tale of publishers sitting on their laurels whilst eBook royalties flood in, most of which they get – despite there being far lower costs associated with producing eBooks.
Click here to read the full success story – we do like a bit of inspiration, we self-publishers, don’t we?!

My chosen brand is Honora. I am in fact, helping to design a new bangle watch, to be a TSV in October, all being well! I wear one of Ralph’s on air all the time so I was honoured to help design it!

Worth having a ‘look inside’ on Amazon at the cool testimonial letters from both Rachel Weisz and Helena Bonham Carter. Sharon Harvey, my Facebook group co-founder and partner in crime, don’t get any ideas!

WATCH – Oscar News!
[Having trouble viewing this video? See YouTube's Help page]
Yes it’s nearly Oscar time (this Sunday 3rd). And I didn’t see any good films during my break so instead, here’s one of the 2014 Oscar round ups from a YouTube channels I subscribe to, Grace Randolph’s Beyond the Trailer. This video rounds up the Best Actor contenders.
Yes, she’s a bit ‘shouty-lady', but what she actually says is usually pretty spot on. Sign up for advance trailer news of new movies and behind the scenes rumours. And to think, this time last year I was actually in LA, loving being in town to feel the buzz, going to QVC’s pre-oscars bash, and watching the ceremony live at my ex’s producer/manager’s house in Studio City until the small hours! P.S. I bet '12 Years a Slave' romps it. What do you think?
NEXT WEEK – who won the Liz Earle bundle of goodies?! Plus dinner with Ingrid Tarrant and co – possibly on a new London socialising thing called Society Dining – more info next week so come back on Friday!
