QVC’s Beauty Bash 2011

I haven't been at the QVC Beauty Bash for the last couple of years as it usually coincides with me being away for a winter break to celebrate Chris and my anniversary. This year though there was a bit of forward planning and I was asked in December if I would be available to go to the event and also co-host the live broadcasts with Ali Young. How could I miss that??

I absolutely love working with Ali, she's funny, informative and forthright (to put it mildly!) The location was The Business Design Centre in Islington and it gave us plenty of room to set out over 35 of our beauty brands so that guests could enjoy treatments and advice galore from all the experts on hand.

I really loved the fact that this year all QVC viewers had the opportunity to apply for tickets so it was a lovely mix of people who know our beauty brands well and people who were eager to learn more.
As always it was an immense pleasure to meet everyone who attended and then there was the added excitement of the live broadcasts.

It was quite different from broadcasting in the familiar surroundings of the studio and it was a little tricky to hear my producer and director at times as it was quite noisy but both Ali and I really enjoyed it, as did the guests who joined us on the 'set' and either chatted to me or 'modelled' for Ali. If you were watching at home I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did??

It was quite a long and tiring day so afterwards we went next door with our 'crew' for a wind down drink. I think I actually ordered a white wine spritzer but somehow ended up with a cocktail – and so did Ali. Not to give too much away it was lucky that Keeley (Elemis), Fiona (Decleor), Alexis (L'Occitane) and Abby (Ultrasun) were on hand to whisk us away for dinner after the second round of 'shots'!!!

Looking forward to the Kipling TSV tomorrow midnight… all I'm saying is large Fairfax!

See you there,
Julia x

    Hi Julia,
Sounds like a nice event – didn’t see any as it’s been a super busy week! Glad it went well. Just wanted to say I know Anne doesn’t do blogging but would you tell her she looks great at the mo! Really suits black and looking very glam. And really missing Ali K. Hope she looks after herself. She’s had a bad run.
Enjoy your weekend and I’m intruigued if you’re jetting off to LA after I read a comment on your last blog from someone!

Hi Julia. I had a really nice day yesterday. My mum and i went last year, but as i wrote to you before, mum died in October. I was hoping i would get tickets again and i was lucky enough to do so. I was really looking forward to it. I actually was a model for Alison in the 4pm show. What a treat. She did my make up with the Bare Escentuals pearl kit. I was quite nervous, i think more so about having to be on air with only my foundation on!! It was really fun though and such a privilage. It was great meeting her as i am such a fan of her shows. I’m so glad i was able to go the the do and meet some of you. I didn’t get to talk to you though. I was going to try and chat but everyone else got to you first. You did give me a smile though when the raffle was been done. The dress you were wearing was gorgeous. Where is it from if you don’t mind me asking? Is it a QVC one?
Anyway, thanks to all at QVC for the beauty bash. I look forward to hopefully going again.
    Love Rebecca

Loved watching the beauty bash on t.v ,thing you should have a qvc roadshow so we can all get to see you. Thanks for the kipling teaser – cant wait! Oh by the way did you get the chance to mention my kipling/diamonique idea I mentioned in a previous blog?I already know you will be hugging the new kipling colour -deep lilac at midnight and I can’t wait to add to my 160 plus kipling bag collection (could be more but takes far too long to count after a while! And a nightmare when you can’t remember which one your lipgloss is in.)Take care Adrienne x

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Beauty Bash on Thursday 27th January so was able to meet you and have a chat with you at the end when I came to thank you and all of QVC for such a terrific afternoon. As I said to you where else could we be lucky enough to attend a well organised event and have the opportunity to meet and talk about beauty products with so many experts in their profession and learn first hand about so many top class products? Fabulous!! The beauty information and the products sold on QVC are fantastic and Alison is such an expert and so helpful and informative. It was great to meet and talk to you and also Debbie Greenwood. Thanks for such a fabulous time and also for the wonderful ‘goody bag’ which was a lovely bonus treat. Great idea to give them to us at the end of the afternoon as it saved carrying them around all afternoon. Thanks for speaking to me Julia and also to my daughter in law and as you asked I will let you know when she has her baby and whether it is a boy or a girl when he/she arrives at the end of February. Many thanks again to you and to QVC. Love Sue

    Hello Rebecca
I’m so pleased you enjoyed the Beauty Bash and your appearance on TV but I am a little cross you didn’t come to speak to me – it was a little hectic I admit but I’ll always make time for a quick chat.
The dress I was wearing is from Ted Baker – I had lots of nice comments about it so I think it must be quite a flattering cut – not sure if they still have them, but if they do I hope you manage to get one

    Hi Adrienne
OMG – 160+ Kipling bags, that must surely be the record!?! I did love the deep lilac but I think my favourite was the blue multi. Good size bag, and as per usual very popular!
I am going to own up that I didn’t yet mention the diamonique monkey idea …. sorry, but now you have reminded me I will!
Glad you enjoyed the Beauty Bash and we should definitely campaign to take it ‘on the road’!
I wonder if you got the TSV or did something else take your fancy?

It was my pleasure to talk to you and your daughter in law – relieved she made it through the afternoon without mishap! As I said at the time I hope all goes well with the birth and do let me know if my prediction was right!

    Hi Julia,
yes, I have gone through the ‘goody’ bag and what fabulous contents were in there. I think the idea of putting all the sam in them and giving them to us as we left was great and helped us all to be ‘hands free’ for all the lovely opportunitiies for treats we were offered. I had my make up dome by Rachel at Bare Escentuals and she was so lovely and helpful and kind. The products she recommended and used on me were so right for me and she explained so carefully and well. I had to go and see Leighton of course who is so fantastic and as usual he was very welcoming and so down to earth and giving of his time to all of us ‘ordinary’ people. How refreshing to know and find that he is so caring and willing to give his time and knowledge to help everyone. Please keep him at QVC. Nina is great too and she painted my nails with Rebel – fab as I was wearing a Bob Mackie purple top. Loved the teddy in the goody bag. Thanks Julia for being such a great presenter who is also so kind and giving of time to the QVC customers. You really are all a fabulous team and it is a priviledge to be a QVC member. Will be in touch when the baby arrives as I will be a very excited grandma!!! Love Sue x

dear julia, i was just wondering if i could ask a favour, well two actually!! in the fashion hours would it be possible for long sleeved items to be modelled as long and not pushed up, sometimes the details dont say what length the sleeves are and a couple of times i have missed out tops thinking that they were three quarter length, also when the chest size is given could the hip size be given as well , i must be a funny shape because my hips are bigger than my chest so am unsure what size to buy, i must admit i liked the way qvc used to do the measuring on a table with a tape measure because you were brilliant at giving every measurement going!!!!i am going back a bit now though and things move on.i hope you dont mind me asking, everything else on qvc is excellent and wouldnt buy anything anywhere else, if its not too late happy TWENTY 11, love traceyxxxx

    Hi Julia
Had to let you know about the compliment I was given yesterday.
I had a Dr appointment and was booking in. The receptionist came out to the waiting room a couple of minutes later. She asked me to go back to the desk, which I did. She seemed a bit embarrased, then asked me to confirm my age. I told her, and she just kept looking at me. I felt a bit weird, but then she smiled, and said that she thought there was an error in my notes, because she thought my DOB should have been 1971, not 1961. I could have kissed her!!! Considering how stressed Ive been recently, its a wonder she didnt think it should have been 1931!!!! You have no idea how great I felt afterward. I almost forgot why I was there in the first place!!!
I am a bit worried though. i think I have an addiction. To Elemis Gentle Rose Exfoliator. I just adore it. The smell just makes me feel better. I use it 5 nights out of 7, and the other 2 nights, I use the Papaya Enzyme peel. I hope im not doing any damage, but really dont think I am.
Hope you and yours are all well Julia.
Hi Annette, hope all is well with you.

Goodness Julia! Having not watched QVC for a while, you know how it is with Christmas and family over, then I joined a running network so I can run after work with a group (far safer) and one thing after the other, I tuned in for the first time recently and I was absolutely astonished by the amount of weight you have lost. Well done you! You look about 14 – I couldn’t believe it was you. I know you said a while back that you were following Diet Chef. As I love cooking and as I believe that cooking food from scratch is better for us than relying on packets(and it’s far more nutrional but don’t mind giving up the odd treat or cutting back on portion sizes once in a while), I rely on exercise, regular runs and the odd bit of yoga once a week, to keep me trim as I really don’t want to give up food, but for anyone else I know who is interested in loosing weight I will absolutely be telling them to tune into QVC and using you as inspiration. Congratulations!

    Hi Tracey
I do take your point about the long sleeved items – it usually says on screen if they are long or three quarter length but I will try to ask the girls to pull them down to show if I remember.
If the hip measurements are on the ‘blue card’ we do tend to give them out, but we are at the mercy of the people who enter the info onto the ‘blue cards’. The good old days of measuring everything disappeared when they brought us out from behind a table to sit on stools ………….progress????

Maybe sometime they will do it before each change of the season in different areas of the country allowing us all a chance to come. The times they have asked me to come to London it has been too difficult for me to go that far from all that I have to do here. Your Ted Baker dress is nifty! Looked great! Like you said it would not be one I would choose just on the hanger BUT ON it is sooo nice.Do you ever get cold? I would! Bare arms in the winter forget it!! Maybe it is my so cold farmhouse!

Say hello to the Red, White and Blue for me and do go shopping, eat some seafood and Mexican food if you like it and think of me!! fORGET THE DIET JUST EAT TINY BITS LIKE ME! Talk soon, Ginnyxx

It has been a little while Julia – were you missing me!! Great to see Palace grab a win. I was waiting untill that happened before speaking to you ha ha!! Could have been a while!!
We drew 2-2 at Ibrox. We were 2-1 up and against ten men for a while so it was a little bit disappointing. Celtic were the better team even with ten men. We ended up with ten too so it was an eventful game. We were a little fortunate still to be in it. I’ll likely get to the replay now at Parkhead too so it’s not all bad! This sums Scottish football – we will now end up playing Celtic SEVEN Times!! We play them in the League Cup Final on the 20th March.
I’ll need to keep you up to date more again! I don’t like always turning your threads to football! Although you dont seem to mind or else you wouldnt reply to me!
Hope Mr Vaughan keeps banging in the goals even if they are fortunate! Fingers crossed Palace finish above Boro at the end of the campaign.
Hows the fitnes regiume coming along? I’ve stepped mine up a little bit again in the last couple of weeks although the game on Sunday probably knocked me back a little with the refreshments afterwards!

Hi Julia, enjoyed seeing bits of the Beauty Bash on tv, looked lots of fun. quite a few coments on the dress you were wearing and yes i do have that dress too, i took it Egypt with me in October had a lot of coments about it.My friend has the other style with the pleated bow not the bib.See your thinking about white skinny jeans,i got a pair from The White Company last summer, cost about the same as my K/M skinnies really nice, i also got 2 pairs of slim/straight leg which i think are more flatering than skinnies, they don’t cling so much and make your legs look longer.Have a look in “L.A” while your there. By the way when are you going to L.A and for how long, and i also hope you are going with a co presenter, so they can share the delights. You will love it, just trying to remember what i bought back with me when i went, must have been be a handbag or shoes in my luggage somewhere.!!! I am off to see Portsmouth against Crystal Palce on the 22nd Feb, my partner is a pompey fan (not doing very well are they) will you be around for that match. Take care.

I was the young lady who spoke to you about the Diet Chef 20 day programme that I purchased while you were presenting just before Xmas. I have been on the diet for 6 weeks now and have managed to lose 9lbs and I have lost 1 inch on both my bust and waist but I have lost 4 inches on my hips WOO HOO! My weight is baby weight so I’m glad to be shifting it; my little girl is 2 after all. I’ve decided to stop the DietC programme, after this month, as I’m not to keen on a few of the dinners and I’m finding that I am substituting the dinners with my own dinners, so I guess I can do this on my own but DietC was defiantly the best place for me to start!
Thanks so much for talking to my sister and I, it was lovely to speak to you! Enjoy L.A and see you back in the UK soon, but not to soon :)
    Take care,

    Hello Tracy
I only just checked this blog for comments and found your post! I am so pleased that Diet Chef helped you to kickstart your weightloss and congratulations on what you have achieved so far! As your post was now about six weeks ago I am really keen to know if you have kept to a healthy eating plan after coming off the Diet Chef and if those inches are still melting away?? Do let me know.
It was a pleasure to talk to you and your sister at the Beauty Bash – one of my favourite things about my job!
    speak soon
    Julia x
