Sometimes when time is against us, it's great to have a few quick beauty fixes up your sleeve that fit in really well with a busy lifestyle! Here are a few of my top tips for summer…
Fab hair on the go
Flat fringes, sweaty partings and a lack of volume can be caused by hot weather stimulating our oil glands on the scalp or by wearing sun hats or protective headgear for work, cycling etc. A must-have quick fix that saves at least an hour (which is what it would maybe normally take to shower, wash your hair and blow dry again) is Percy & Reed’s Dry Shampoo.
Keep it with you on hot and sticky days and do a quick spray if you are looking a bit greasy or when you remove your sun hat. It not only instantly refreshes but it gives back a bit more volume and texture too.
During the day, especially in the summer or on holiday, when wearing a lighter/less heavy make-up, although you may look fresh when you first put it on, this type of look can deteriorate very quickly as it is not as long-lasting as a winter or full make-up.
Quick fixes that still respect this fresh-faced beauty that we all want to appear to be, to keep with you at all times is bareMinerals Stroke of Light which, in my make-up bag, I call ‘Stroke of Genius’! Apply it whenever you start to look tired, over any other make-up, under eyes and in deeper lines. This immediately freshens and brightens the look of your complexion.
Its perfect partner in your make-up bag is a cream blush such as Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge, Liz Earle or Wild About Beauty and with your lighter summer make-up, I guarantee you’ll check in the mirror later in the day and you will have lost the definition that accent colour can give.
A quick fingertip application of a creamy, waxed-based colour to cheeks and lips will immediately perk up your completion and give your face a more lifted, fresher and younger look. You could even do this technique with one of Poppy King’s Lipstick Queen lipsticks.
Keep the pests away
During the summer months and especially on holiday or travelling, it's essential to sneak into your make-up bag a small bottle of tea tree oil. Apply to your pulse points, your hairline, around your ears and your feet and ankles and don’t forget the children and the rest of the family.
Use at any time, if you are in an area such as near water or in a wood where biting insects or the dreaded midges are looking at you and licking their lips. Living on a farm, I find this a daily essential and keep it next to my Ultrasun and use the two hand in hand. One protects from the sun, the other from the insects.
A pick-me-up for your eyes
A quick summer glamour makeover trick during the summer, when your eye make-up often only consists of mascara is to carry with you at all times a black liner such as New CID, Mally or Laura Geller.
When you take your sunglasses off and catch yourself from a few feet away in a mirror and realise your eyes look tiny, you can quickly apply some strong definition with a black liner pencil which can be softened to go with more casual clothing by smudging with your finger. This will immediately create more focus and drama on the eye area and can make you look more groomed without looking made up.
