Top tips from our scrapbooking expert, Rosemary Merry

Rosemary MerryHi, I'm scrapbooking expert, Rosemary Merry. I'm going to take you through the journey of a scrapbook album and offer some useful tips on getting started...

How to begin

The beauty of most modern scrapbook albums is that you can move pages around from beginning to end and in-between. That means you have the flexibility for the contents of the album to develop, change or grow as you work on it - so you don’t necessarily need to start at the beginning and work through to the end.

I find it helpful to gather together the photos that I want to include, to organise them into chronological order and think about how they might group nicely if I want more than one on a page. I try to work on double-page spreads so that the look is more cohesive. Then, I think generally about how the album will look overall and what kind of papers will showcase the photographs most effectively. Do I want it to have an antique heritage look, a holiday feel, or a modern-day approach?

Dawn Bibby answers your questions

Dawn_bibby_2 Hi everyone,

Thank you for all your great questions. I have tried to answer these as best as I can and I hope my answers are helpful.

I have a problem most crafters would love.  I have too much stuff and I now find it hard to focus and design cards. How would you organise to help to get the flair and focus back?

Colour co-ordination is the simplest way to go about it. Collate everything in colour themes and I'm sure you will find that easier. You could also invest in some good magazines, like Crafts Beautiful or Papercraft Inspirations, for a little inspiration. Find a few components that you really like and then pull out paper and card in co-ordinating colours to start and that should help.

'Crop A Dile' craft tips and advice from We R Memory Keepers' Andrew Hiller

We_r_memory_keepers

You craft enthusiasts have posted some rave reviews about the 'Crop A Dile' crafting tool from We R Memory Keepers. To find out why the 'Crop A Dile' is so popular and for tips on using the tool, we met up with Andrew Hiller, the driving force behind We R Memory Keepers.

What is the 'Crop A Dile'?

The 'Crop A Dile' is a tool for your craft projects used primarily for punching holes and setting snaps, brads and eyelets.

What makes the 'Crop A Dile' unique?

The 'Crop A Dile' is simple enough so that novice crafters can use it, not just professionals. It's extremely quiet so you won't disturb anyone, which is particularly useful if you're crafting at night.

Plus, the 'Crop A Dile' is worth buying for its hole-punching capabilities alone. It has hardened steel punches and two hole sizes: 3/16 inch and a 1/8 inch punch, which you can switch between easily.

Top craft designer Anna Griffin

Anna_griffin We chatted to Anna Griffin, one of our most popular US craft designers. She shared her top craft secrets, told us about the mistake that almost spelt disaster for her first Today's Special Value and divulged which new products we will be seeing later on this year...

How did you start as a crafter?

My family were all artists and so I used to do a lot of crafting when I was younger with my mother and I learnt all the basics from a really young age - needlework, papercrafting and such. I studied Graphic Design at college and I guess it seemed to fit really. You know when it just feels right. I've been doing it for about 20 years now and I love it!

What's your favourite craft tool?

I'm not a gadget girl. I don't even have a Blackberry. So I just have really basic craft materials that I always use.
