Liz Earle reveals her beauty secrets in her new book

Liz Earle When we heard Liz Earle was launching her first beauty book 'Skin Secrets', we just had to find out more. So we caught up with the beauty-expert-come-author to ask what it was all about.

So Liz, tell us more about your new book...

My book brings together 25 years of research and knowledge about how to create radiant-looking skin. I think that great-looking skin should be within everyone's grasp and with the right tools and information, it needn't be hard to achieve.

Who is the book aimed at?

I wrote it as a guide for every woman; for my teenage daughter, a pregnant colleague, my menopausal friend and my more mature mother - with a good deal of information for my husband and sons too. It’s also for anyone who has ever written to me or watched me over the years and wants to find out more, whatever their age.

Richard JacksonThe latest in our Learn to... series is Learn to Garden. We met up with our in-house expert, Richard Jackson to get his top gardening tips...

1. Grow spuds on the patio
All you need is a 30.5cm (12") plastic pot or poly bag, five Potatoes growing on the patioearly cropping seed potatoes and a bag of multipurpose compost.

Start the potatoes sprouting in egg boxes on the windowsill in January or February, then plant them into the pot or poly bag in March.

Keep the plants well watered and in late May you'll be harvesting the yummiest, freshest potatoes you've ever tasted!

Simon BrownHi,

I'm Simon the guest presenter from cook's essentials. I'll be bringing you favourite recipes each month for you to try at home.

Lulu reveals her Today's Special Value

Lulu

Hi everyone, Lulu here,

I'm so excited about Today's Special Value - it's a five-piece skincare essentials set complete with full sizes, as well as a mini size of my NEW hand cream. This is such a fantastic saving and will give you the perfect products to start 2009 looking and feeling great.

My top application tips

Lulu's Today's Special Value

- Cleanse first and use the dermabrasion when needed. Apply Youth Juice Secret Oil followed by Glory Days Day Cream.

- I always keep the Smart Balm Eye Cream in my bag and dab it on throughout the day. One editor told me it's like the new lipgloss - dab and go.

- The hand cream is simple too - just rub it on whenever your hands feel dry, in this weather it's a must-have!

Learn to... Cook

Simon BrownLearning to cook should be fun, not a chore. So to make it easier, our guest presenter Simon Brown is sharing with you a few basic skills to help get you started.

1. Make a shopping list

There's nothing worse than opening the fridge halfway through a recipe and finding that you don't have a vital ingredient. Make a list of all things you need and check the quantities required too before you go shopping.

2. Follow the recipe exactly

Every recipe will have been tested before publishing to make sure that the quantities are correct and that the directions work, so it’s important to follow the recipe to the letter. Always do things in the order stated rather than jumping to the exciting bit.

3. Use the right utensils

If the recipe says that you need to use a small bowl or a large saucepan then do so. Working with the wrong utensil can lead to disappointment by making mixing more difficult or letting the food cook too quickly or too slowly, spoiling the end result.

4. Be safe Collection of kitchen essentials

Make sure you have somewhere safe to put your pan or dish of food before you take it off the hob or out of a hot oven. Running around the kitchen trying find somewhere to plonk a red hot roasting tin is no joke and is potentially dangerous! Use heat resistant trivets or mats and clear some worktop space for them before you put the oven gloves on.

5. Relax and enjoy

Now all the hard work’s done give yourself some time to savour and enjoy what you’ve made, and ask someone else to do the washing-up!

Lulu chats about 2009 and looks forward to tomorrow's Today's Special Value

Lulu

We caught up with Lulu to find out what she has planned for 2009 and to pick up some clues on tomorrow's Today's Special Value...

Did you have a good Christmas and new year?

I had a magical Christmas in the U.S. and a sunny fun-filled new year in Jamaica after the happy event of my son getting married in December!

What are you most looking forward to in 2009?

I'm excited about my busy year with more appearances on QVC! I'm going to be a mentor on Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Your Country Needs You' - a search for our Eurovision entry for 2009. I'll also be preparing for and going on tour in a new and different way with a couple of special friends, and I'm going to continue to work on recording projects that I started in 2008 in L.A. Plus, look out for my new book coming out in the autumn!

Tell us about tomorrow's Today's Special Value...

It contains four of my favorite products plus a new one! You'll receive some full sizes as well as a brand-new product - this set is perfect to start off the new year with.

Check out Lulu's skincare range.
