Dinny Hall Jewellery is joining QVC
My name is Dinny Hall and I’m the founder of Dinny Hall jewellery. I'm here to introduce myself and tell you all a little more about the brand.
I left college thirty years ago and set up a workshop straight away. I was a Blitz kid, a real new romantic – there was nothing I liked to do more than dress up either in outfits put together from vintage stores or early Vivian Westwood and back then I had black hair and very red lips!
My jewellery design was better for the catwalk in those days and it wasn’t long before I was working with the trendiest fashion designers of the time and my designs appearing on the covers of glossy magazines and the super models and celebrities of the time.
I won the accessory designer of the year award voted by the British Fashion Council in 1989 and sold my jewellery in fashionable stores all over the world. The pace was fast, I was a bit like a pop star in those days! I did have to slow down and so I went into retail - the brand has evolved over the years from those extremely creative and heady beginnings.
I think my brand has real heritage now – those young women who wore my designs all those years ago stayed loyal to the brand and I went on to design their engagement and first baby eternity rings, until I became the designer of choice for their daughters 18th or 21st jewellery.
Men like to buy the jewellery too and there are grandfathers now who buy jewellery for their wives, sisters, daughters and granddaughters - we have many glamorous great grandmothers who wear Dinny Hall!
It really is a brand for all ages , but still fashionable I am very proud of that.
I love being a retailer as well as a designer and my shops have engaged me with the customer. That’s why I like to design collections which can be mixed and worn with newer designs and kept in your jewellery box season after season, dressed up or down and collected over time, my motto is ‘this season buy the necklace, next season buy the earrings’.
My inspiration is from the world around me - from nature, architecture, travels or art and fashion - I carry a sketch book and more recently my smart phone helps capture what I see, I doodle practically all the time.
I design from the heart and all my collections have a deeper meaning to them of some kind whether it be joy or heartache – like a good book there should always be a positive spin. I turn shapes into a thing of simple beauty preferring pared down elegance to gaudy embellishment – like prose I like to think.
