Crafts Beautiful editor speaks to QGossip

Sarah Crosland, editor of Crafts Beautiful magazine, appeared on QVC on Tuesday 10th February to officially present us with our 2008 Craft Awards.

QGossip caught up with Sarah to ask her a few questions about the awards and about the world of craft in general.

What would you say is QVC's most important strength as an award-winning shopping channel?

Quality, value for money and excellent customer service.
 
What do you think sets Dawn Bibby apart from other card designers?

Dawn has a great eye for design and colour. She knows her target audience and which cards and papercraft ranges will work well - the designs always look stylish, yet are easy to achieve. Often it's the making and giving of the card that is the pleasurable part and Dawn gives people the confidence to have a go, whatever their skill level.

What do you think will be the hottest crafting trends in 2009?

Jewellery making, 50s nostalgia and vintage themes for cardmakers, rubber stamping, credit crunch crafting - ie. making things for the home, sewing, patchwork and quilting.

What's your top crafting tip?

Always use the right glue for the job!

What's your personal favourite form of crafting?

I enjoy painting and card making.

What would you say is the most important tool for a crafter to possess?

A good cutting tool - sharp blades are essential for creating crisp edges.

What inspires you?

Nature, blue skies and beautiful scenery, also fashion and home decor. Some of the new K&C collections are yummy and should be framed for all to admire!

What drew you to crafting?

I come from a creative family and studied art and craft at college - I got into crafts when my kids were young. We spent many happy days making salt dough models and homemade cards.
