Elemis: Back to Basics
Which skin type do you have? It's important to know your skin type - which can change slightly throughout your life - so that you can use the best products for your skin.
Combination skin
• You will have some oily areas such as the T-zone that runs across your forehead, down your nose and chin, but other areas of your face such as cheeks and neck are normal to dry
• Open pores may be visible
Dry skin
• If your skin feels tight and stretched, particularly after washing
• If you never have greasy feeling areas
• If you have flaky patches of skin
• A matte appearance with minimised pores
Sensitive skin
• Can show a tendency to redness
• Reactions can result in itching, peeling and slight swelling
• A dry skin will become drier, oily skin will become more oily
• Areas will feel hot to touch on the skin
• Broken capillaries visible on the skin
The basic skincare routine
1. Always cleanse and tone, both morning and evening (use a facial wash in the morning if it's easier but always tone afterwards)
2. Exfoliate at least once a week and follow with a facial mask
3. Cleanse and tone your skin using damp cotton wool as soon as you get in from work or in the early evening. Then apply your night time treatment. If you feel your skin needs it, apply a second application before you go to bed
Step 1: Cleanse
Warm two-three pumps of cleanser in the palm of your hand and spread over your face with damp cotton wool. Remove cleanser and follow with a spritz of toner directly onto the facial area or applied with dry cotton wool.
Keeley recommends…
For dry, dehydrated or ageing skin:
Am and pm - remove make-up and daily grime with Rehydrating Rosepetal Cleanser
Am and pm - complete the cleansing process with Rehydrating Ginseng Toner
Combination or oily skin
Am and pm - remove make-up and daily grime with Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser
Am and pm - complete the cleansing process with Balancing Lavender Toner
This choice of cleanser and toner comes in our Elemis skincare set.
Sensitive skin
Am - use Sensitive Cleansing Wash Step 2: Exfoliate
Aim to exfoliate your skin once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells.
Keeley recommends...
All skin types
- Skin Buff. Massage over damp skin in small, gentle, circular movements
- Papaya Enzyme Peel. Apply over the entire face and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse off or remove with damp cotton wool.
Sensitive skin
Massage Gentle Rose Exfoliator over eye lids and lips for a smoother texture. Can be used daily.
Step 3: Facial mask
Use a mask once or twice a week. Apply over the facial area and leave on for 10 - 15 minutes. Remove with damp cotton wool.
Step 4: Eye and neck treatments
Use am and pm to help reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffy eyes and to firm and smooth the neck area.
Keeley recommends...
- Absolute Eye Serum. Apply one pump of serum gently around the eye area for puffy eyes and dark circles
- Pro Collagen Eye Renewal. Warm two-three pumps of this between your ring fingers and gently smooth around the eye area to reduce the look of fine lines
- Pro Collagen Neck and Bust Lifting Treatment. Use to improve the firmness of the neck and bust area
Step 5: Moisturise
This is a vital step, particularly as lifestyle and environmental factors can make great demands on our skin.
Day cream
Apply Maximum Moisture Day Cream each morning to clean, dry skin for a fresh, lightweight sensation.
Night cream
Apply Maximum Replenish Night Cream each evening to clean, dry skin for a calming, hydrating sensation.
For sensitive skin
- Apply SOS Emergency Cream or Spray over the entire face, am and pm
- To help with redness, apply Daily Redness Relief over the entire face am and pm
