QGossip spoke to Simon Biagi backstage after he'd finished his first Morning Show. Simon teamed up with fellow presenter Kathy Tayler in the show - following in the footsteps of Debbie and Dale who presented in Monday's first ever Morning Show.
How was the show?
I found it really exciting - it was nice to have a real burst of energy first thing in the morning and get the day off to a bang.
Did your background in morning TV help?
Yes it did. Kathy used to work on TVam and I was at GMTV. We would kick off the day at six o' clock in the morning and start like there was no tomorrow!
The Morning Show was a bit like going back in the past, but that was quite nice because once again I'm beginning the day with a 'sprint'.
How do you deal with early starts?
It's a strange thing; you never get used to early starts but you learn to cope with them.
I woke up this morning without an alarm clock at a quarter to five. My alarm goes off at five o' clock, but it wakes up my wife so I try and get up before.
On average I get about six hours of sleep, seven maybe. I've got a one-year old and a six-year old, so that makes sleeping time a bit shorter!
My tip for early morning starts is prepare the night before. When I get up all I have to do is pick up my bag and walk out the door!
Why do you think you make a good team with Kathy?
I like working with Kathy, and all the QVC presenters for that matter, because she listens. She takes on board what I have to say rather than concentrating too hard on what to say next.
I've worked with presenters outside of QVC where they're only thinking about what they have to say and, no matter what you say, they'll say it. Sometimes it can be entirely inappropriate!
But Kathy listens and it makes me listen to her. I think listening is a difficult skill when you're a presenter because we're trained to talk.
What do you most enjoy about the Morning Show?
I like the fact that we've changed the nine o'clock hour to be a really important show: we've got great guests and great gadgets that make The Morning Show a brilliant start to the day.
