Alison Young answers your beauty questions

Alison_130_3Is your hair limp, your skin a little dull, or perhaps you're just looking for the right make-up shade? Alison Young, our industry expert, is here to answer your beauty questions. This is her latest advice...

Im 27 and I suffer from breakouts of blackheads. I would say that my skin type is dry to sensitive. What products would you recommend? (From Joanne Patterson)

I'm worried that you may have over-stripped or over-dried your skin with potent or dramatic action products. They give short term results but spotty skin will always come back if you're over harsh to it. Decleor products are perfect for you. There's the Decleor Oily/ Combination Cleansing collection, which is a face wash cleanser and toner, and then the Decleor Aromessence Ylang Ylang face oil . You could use this Ylang Ylang face oil with the Decleor Hydra Floral Anti-Pollution cream. This routine will give you hydration as well as help to control your breakouts. Don't use too many masks or exfoliants on your skin, just let it balance for a while. But if you want to use one, I recommend the Elemis Herbal Lavender Repair Mask once every ten days; it can be put directly onto spots overnight.

I'm 34 and am struggling with my skincare regime. I have very oily skin and find that most moisturisers are too rich, especially the anti-ageing ones. Can you recommend a good moisturiser for me? I also have quite large pores that get blocked up easily. Can you recommend a cleanser that is great at unblocking pores without being too abrasive? Helen

You want the Clientele Elastology Gentle Soy Antioxidant Wash that comes with a sponge for gentle exfoliation. The good news is that the oil is keeping wrinkles at bay. You may be using anti-aging products and finding that they make your skin oilier, don't turn your back on them completely you just may not need them for another few years. If your skin is still oily at 34, it's actually acting more like that of a 24 year old! Also the Clientele Elastology day cream SPF 25 is great and also oil-free. Use that as a simple system and concentrate on the Clientele Elastology collection. You can also add the Clientele Elastology Lotus Firming serum which is an oil-free anti aging product.

I have lots of scarring around the mouth and chin area where I've had spots, I've tried Liz Earle and am now using Alpha H, I also have open pores the alpha h doesnt seem to be working, please advise, I am 38 yrs. (From Jeanie)

The most important thing is not what you are using for the scarring, but that you are using a cleanse-tone-moisturise routine. Ensure specific products for scarring are used with a skincare routine and not instead of it because then your skin will be imbalanced and you won't get a result. So wipe over with the Alpha-H Liquid Gold three times a week only and don't use more frequently than that. You should see a result within 30 days but it won't be the final result, just a softening and lightening of the look of the scar. Results on scarring take at least six months. You could also add the Decleor Prolagene Energising gel. You can use that morning and night. Use a high SPF factor too as if you get sun on those scars this year, they will darken and thicken.

Please can someone help me? It is a simple question but I can't find an answer anywhere! I want to try the Decleor Vitaroma Eye cream but is it only to be used under the eyes? So many eye products say "apply around eye contour area" but I don't know where this is. I want a cream that will cover my whole eyelid as well as the surrounding area and help with the first signs of aging. I already have elemis eye serum (From Caroline)

Some brands will say to only apply around the eye contour area. This means you should apply it to the bone around your eye socket, not into the hollow where you can feel the soft fleshy bit. However there are brands that are happy to say their formulations can go up to the eye area and onto the lid. You could try the Decleor Excellence De L'Age eye cream, which can be used on the crepiness on the lid area and up to the lashes too. It has more of a firming quality and you can use that on top of your Elemis eye serum, which works more as a decongestant so you won't be doubling up on ingredients. There's also the Gale Hayman Youth Lift Gravity Defying eye cream which works both as an eye cream and an eye mask, on the lid area and up to the lashes.

I am getting married in August and wearing a backless dress, however my back is spotty and scarred, can you suggest anything to get rid of the spots and the scars. (From Andrea Jones)

On the back area, the easiest thing to use is the ABC Skinwash - use in the shower, because the foam will go down over the back area. Then you can use the Alpha-H Liquid Gold - get a friend or partner to wipe this over your back just three times a week. To improve the look of it you should also use a moisturiser - simply wipe the Decleor Prolagene Energising gel daily onto the back area. Self tan will help to hide it too. If in doubt, body make-up will also help to hide it - Covermark is a great brand for this and would be good to use on the day. Also with a backless dress, if you need to put self tan or body make-up on for the day, then any form of body shimmer added on to the area will detract from the scarring.

I am in my mid 50s and have lost just over 4 stones in weight.
That's good, but the downside is that my skin has really suffered, especially my thighs and arms. I've traded dimples for crinkles! Unless I wear long or three-quarter length sleeved tops this summer, my creased arms will be on display.
Can you recommend a good body cream to help minimise the appearance of my poor skin. (From M. Jones)

Fantastic to lose the weight - well done! Your age bracket does mean, however, that the skin has been stretched after hormonal changes and now hasn't gone back into its relaxed state. This may never happen but to make you feel more confident about it, putting the Clientele Estro-Lift Body Skin Therapy on twice a day will help. Using a Decleor body oil underneath this will also really help.

I use Gale Hayman Collagen Lip Lift and SBC Collagen gel, could you tell me where exactly the collagen comes from? (From Mrs Hussain)

You can't put collagen back into a cell. What you can do is put it in the layer between the cells and then plump it up. A cell goes down with the aging process and deteriorates with sun damage, smoking, ill health and weight gain - it stretches and relaxes. So although you can't penetrate the cell that makes collagen, putting the collagen ingredient into a product gives a temporary plumping effect to the look of the skin. If you keep using these products then you'll keep that plumped-up look. If you're young or have firm skin then you don't need to use them.

SBC replies: we use 'pseudo collagen' which is a yeast collagen obtained from plants.
Gale Hayman replies: our collagen is marine based usually either seaweed or algae.

If you've got a question for Alison, or want to share your own advice, then post a comment.

Are you having trouble working out when to use your Alpha-H products? Here is a good routine for using the Age Delay Collection.

Alpha-H Age Delay Collection

Night time routine:

Three consecutive nights:
Balancing Cleanser
Liquid Gold/White Gold
No night cream

The other four nights:
Balancing Cleanser
Alpha A 0.5% Serum
Age Delay

Morning routine:
Balancing Cleanser
Liquid Harmony/White Gold

Please help my skin is crepey, could you recommend a good body lotion or other remedy. (From Gay)

Crepey skin on the body is due to skin aging, dryness, sun damage, weight fluctuation or a combination of any of those. You want a body lotion that contains not just moisturising properties but firming properties as well. Decleor Systems Corps Moisturising body milk is a good one to use. That is our longest standing firming body lotion that will suit all ages and is easy to apply in a pump-action dispenser. However if you are over the age of 40 or 50, then the most potent product would be the Gatineau Melatogenine Firming body cream. You could do a six week course of just using that body cream now and then go back to a normal body lotion. Or just use this product on the crepey areas and use a normal body lotion on the other areas to economise. If it is very bad on areas such as your decollette, neck and bust area because of the aging process then you need to add a firming serum into that. For over 50s, you could go for the Clientele Estro-Lift serum, if you're under 50 then the Decleor Prolagene Energising gel would be better to use under those formulations on key areas.

Hiya Alison
Would you be able to help me find a lipstick?
I have extremley pigmented red lips and it drives me mad. I can't use normal pinky/nude lipsticks as you can see my naturall red lip colour coming through. I really want a lipstick which affectively erases my lips so i can do my eyes nice and dark. Im very pale aswell so i cant get dark lipstick as it washes me out. I live in the UK so i cant get anything from the USA obviously =P. Im also abit low on cash so something nice and cheap would be amazing. Thankz ever so much for taking the time to look at this =]

Hello Alison

I am currently using Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic and Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser (normal/combination). All with great success. I do however suffer with spots/boils and have numerous blackheads. I notice you usually recommend Alpha H Liquid Gold for this but i wondered how it is applied, how often and will i still need to cleanse tone and moisturise whilst using it? I have my wedding coming up in August and would LOVE to have clear skin for the photos!

Please can you advise.

Also, my mum has chosen her mother of the bride outfit and is looking for something that will cover her varicose vein colouring on the day. Do you have any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Claire Harrison.

Hi Alison

My nails need serious help, they are very flaky,I've tried most things but they peel off, I tried pro strong and that made my nail separate from the nail bed, Help me please, I'd love just moderate nails please

Hi Alison,

I wonder if you & QVC would consider doing a Mother and Baby Beauty show. I've just had my first child and trying to find good bathing products for the baby with no petrochemicals etc is very difficult. Also, there are so many products pregnant and breastfeeding women can't use, and so many that perhaps we should. It would be nice to have a show that looks after both of us.

Love all your shows.

Dear Alison, WHITE HEADS are my problem around the corners of my eyes in amongst the crows feet - lots of them, What can I do to get rid of them?
I'm 45 with dry skin.

Also, IS THIS TRUE? I have ROSY CHEEKS which appeared 16 yrs ago. I was told by a Clarins advisor that they did a cream to remove this problem but I must stop using my Liz Earl skincare (as it was oily) and use Clarins skincare instead or their cream would not work. Was she trying to boost her sales or is this true?

Hi Alison, I was wondering if you can help me? I am getting married at the end of August and I have a few major issues with my skin that need attention. I have an outbreak of open pores on my nose and cheeks. I have always suffered from dark cirles and puffiness and everytime I look at them I think they are getting worse. My skin is a combination of normal, dehydrated and slightly oily. Also my neck gets very dry with a few lines.
I am in desparate need of some good advice which I know I will get from you. Time is ticking so any help with the above would be much appreciated
hope to hear from you
Elaine
P.S. love your shows by the way.

Hi Alison,
I am continuously trying to find the right moisturiser for my skin. I am 17 and I have a dry/dehydrated flaky skin however I cannot use products with a high oil content because I have blackheads on my nose and chin. I use cleanse and polish which I am really happy with as it deals with both problems but I have struggled to find the right moisturiser; please could you recommend one (and any other product you think would help me)? I would be really grateful for your advice, thank-you.

Hi Alison, i am 46 years old and for the last few years i have had really bad bags under my eyes can you suggest anything that will tighten the skin under my eyes please

then there is the night products, there is restoracel and the lotus restorative cream and the redensity therapy is also for pm, i dont want to waste £60.00 worth of treatments so could you please help me to use the products properly as the leaflet what comes with it doesnt tell us what order to use them many thanks.

For P Harrison re daughter's long hair.....at bedtime, plait it looseley with a tight fabric band at the bottom of the plait. Much easier the next morning, and kinder to hair and daughter!

Hi
I have a Gayle Hayman product called Youth Glow which I got in a TSV a few years ago and have only just started usin and I love it! I have had a look on the website but it doesn't look like this is stocked anymore-do you know if I can get it anyway or if there is a good alternative?
Many thanks
Helen

FOR CLAIRE...

I would apply moisturiser then sunscreen on top, as the other way round, the moisturiser may take off some of the sunscreen.. if thats too much in the summer.. just use the sunscreen instead of moisturiser or get a moisturiser with specific SPF in it already!.. Hope this helps you.

Hi Alison,
I am 29 and have recently been diagnosed with Rosacea, my GP prescribed the usual antibiotics (with little effect) and I was wondering if you could suggest suitable skincare/make up products.
Many Thanks

RESPONSE TO SHANNON- I suffer from Dermatitis on my body, my skin goes thick n scaly and itches like mad. i constantly get told of for itching and its especially bad at night. Im not sure if your dad has tried Balneum Bath oil (get it on prescription as its much more expensive over the counter). I had thick scaly patches on my body n on my neck which go a purple/browny colour and are obvious. I used the bath oil which you put in the bath tub and lie init for 10 mins minimum do this about 3/4 times a week if possible, pat dry and follow with aquious cream or something similar. It stops the itching and scaling of the skin and without it id be itching myself mad. The bath oil contains soya bean which keeps the skin form loosing moisture which is why psorisis/dermatitis suffers constantly itch.

Its worked wonders for me so i hope it can do the same for your dad.

Hope it helps!

hi alison could you please suggest what makeup i could use to give me better coverage as i have vitilago and round my eyes would be quite patchy and hard to cover many thanks christina.

Hi Alison

Having suffered with Acne Roscea for a number of years and being on medication for it, I use elemis cleanser and toner for sensitive skin and the absolute day and night cream but I tend to get a t zone of dry skin can you suggest anything that might help
thanks jane

Dear Alison - the comments posted suggest you should write a book, young to old what happens to your skin, and get QVC to flog it.

Hi Alison,
I really love watching your shows and have learnt about so many brilliant products through you, so I'm hoping you can help with this. My dad unfortunately suffers from quite severe psoriasis and has large patches of this itchy condition all over his body, which is obviously very uncomfortable for him and also drives the rest of the family mad due to his constant scratching! He's tried various lotions and potions in the past, including simple barrier creams, oregon grape root, shea butter, etc but nothing seems to work or if it does the cream soon stops having any effect. With the itching his skin often gets broken too. Can you think of anything that might help? Oh, he's allergic to tea tree by the way, so anything with that in is a no no.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Alison - I'm going on holiday in two weeks time. Should I use moisturiser before or after applying sunscreen?

Hello Alison,
I dont think you can help me,Iam 51 now and feel old and ugly every time I go out and see all the beautiful young women. I just want to come home again, is there a firming cream that actually works,I just keep on spending money on products that dont seem to work. I hate looking in the mirror every morning, seeing the horid image looking back at me.HELP!

IN REPLY TO SUSAN COMPTON.. Dermablend products may help that problem you have in regards to spider veins on face.. hope this helps..dermabend covers them up but wont fade them.. not sure what will, think theres a fade out cream for age spots or staining on the skin, but not sure about the spider veins, unless they can be removed?..

Michelle xx

Hiya Alison.. love your shows.. you're so great.
Just a quick question i hope you get a minute to answer.. i have been told i have eczema of the scalp. What shampoo and conditioner would you advise me to use thats not too harsh on my scalp, and thats gentle and soothing as well as nourishing?..

Hi Alison

I am using Bionova products and having great results. I also bought the factor 28 from Ultrasun. Do I use the Bionova before or after the Bionova?

Cheers

Dear Alison ,I have a question regarding fake tans.At the momment I am using Xen tan but have the same problem I always have,my legs look all covered in brown open pores, the fake tans all settle into the pores and give a mottled look ,I regularly exfoliate and moisturise,I have tried waxing, removal creams and shaving my legs.None of these improve the appearance, where am I going wrong?

Hi Alison

I have bought several ProStrong kits but can no longer find "ProBrite Natural Nail Whitener With Fluoride".  This is a fantastic product and essential for whiter looking nails in the summer, (especially toe nails), I hope this item is still available.  If not can you recommend an alternative for my old yellowing nails.

hi alison. i really enjoy watching you on qvc. i am a 20 year old and would like to start up a good regime of cleanser, toner and moisturizer for my skin and would really prefer it to be something completely natural. what would u recommend. my skin can get very dry and in the odd occasion i do get a rash form on my cheeks. please help me. tc

Hi Alison,

I have just recently been converted to the Elemis nourishing milk bath for my sons (age 10 & 4) who both have dry skin, the youngest is fine, but the eldest after using it once refuses to use it again as he says it smells too girlie :)
Is there anything similar he can use with a 'manly' smell?

Personally I think it is fab but can appreciate what he is saying

Many Thanks

Hi Alison, I am 33 years old and would say my skin looks reasonable for my age, however when I push the edge of my finger across my skin it looks like crape paper. I am currently using Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, toner, followed by the skin repair moisturiser but my skin is still tight after this so i have to put on Johnson's baby lotion to stop my skin feeling tight. PLease would you advise me on a moisturiser that will stop my skin having the crape paper effect when I push it and where I won't have to use baby lotion as well.

Thanks

Louise

Hello Alison

I like watching QVC beauty shows specially Liz Earle´s shows. I haven´t tried any of her products yet because I always change my mind in the last minute because I prefer to use a moisturiser that has SPF in it and her products don´t have it. What can I do to be able to use the Liz Earle´s range and at the same time protect my skin from the sun? Thanks

Hi Alison.

I have just had a baby causing my skin to be very oily with enlarged pores and discolouration on cheeks and chin.
I am looking for a foundation or primer that will last throughout the day (a wedding to go to) but will also make my pores look smaller and mask the discolouration.
Can you suggest a brand or item to use?

Thanks
Anthea

in response to SHAHIDAS problem. im 24 and asian skin. i regularly wax (face) and ALWAYS used to get spots straight after waxing but recently i changed my beutician and she uses another type of wax (green in colour) and really i have had no spots or reaction after changing wax. i believe the last beautician was not using such a good wax and i alwys ended up in REALLY BAD SPOTS! BUT NOW I WAX EVERY 2 MONTHS and each time i get it waxed NO SPOTS AT ALL! i would advise your daughter changes her wax and go for something may be that has aloevera in it? all my cousins had the same spot prob and have changed the wax. good luck and hope i helped! xxx

Hi Alison

I turned 45 this year and look pretty good for my age - according to everyone - I'm often mistaken for my daughter's sister.

However I have discovered I have lines and wrinkles around my eyes - crows feet- and am not sure which is the best product for me to use.

I have fairly dry skin, would the Decleor Experience De L'Age Triple Action Eye-Lip Cream be beneficial or can you recommend something else?

Many thanks eagerly awaiting your reply

Im currently using Bobby Brown Creamy Concealer Kit (Honey) and the corrector (in peach), these products give very good coverage however i have recently read about Salmon coloured concealers and wanted to know if anyone has used one, whether its any good and the brand name please. Ive heard they give even better coverage so would love to try it but i have not come across any and the ones i have are in America and dont ship to the UK.

hi Alison,
my daughter has acne and a very oily skin.. she is 13 and we have tried OTC blemish creams which dont work.. the doctor has put her on anti-biotics, but her face still gets very oily and the spots still break out... she uses a perfume free soap and a scrub, can you advise on products and a routine for her... thankyou x

Hi Alison

After reading The Green Beauty Bible I am concerned about the issues raised regarding Nano particles found even in green suncare/makeup brands. The book has highlighted true green suncare products which are clear that they do not use Nano Particles (researched by a Dr as possible to be absorbed into the skin) I would appreciate advice on this as the authors have highligted that some mineral makeup/suncare use the ultra fine (nano) particles with only a few brands opting out of not using nano-tech until more can be estabished on safety.
I realise some headlines can be misleading but when the book raised the issue which I had read about previously I feel it is important to know more as even the mineral makeup/suncare we may use may not adhere to this. I also know that mineral sunscreens are much better to use than chemical ones therefore I will still use mineral sunscreens as I trust the brand I use but the question still remains about mineral makeup as this can be avoided unlike suncare.

I know this is a big issue but when people start to read the Green BB they will have the same dilemma.

Hi Alison, please could you recommend an eye cream to help reduce the swellings under my eyes, I am not sure if they are bags, as such, or puffiness.
Many thanks,
Grace

Hi Alison,

I am getting married in October and have a strapless dress. However, last year I had surgery for skin cancer and have been left with a 5 inch scar to my chest which has now turned Keloid. Whilst I am not ashamed of my scar, it is ugly and would prefer to disguise it as far as possible for my photo's. Is there anything that you can recommend to cover up my scar to any degree as normal concealers aren't up to the job?

Many Thanks

I am asthmatic and suffer from eczema, mostly on my face. It can be a little itchy and redish but its more bumpy, uneven skin. I take a steriod called 'Prednisolone' when my asthma is bad and this clears my lungs and my skin becomes very smooth and clear. I use Liz Earls 'Cleans & Polish' which I really enjoy usnig as well a her moisturiser but feel this is not enough...

I was wondering if you can suggest any other products that can calm my skin down when my asthma is under control.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there. I need help with my nails they have always been OK but over the last few months they grow then break accross always right down at the side where the nail meets the finger. It is a nightmare as I am left with some reasonably long and some incredibly short and have to start growing them from scratch. I use the ProStrong Max3 pen and OPIs nail envy. What can I use to stop them breaking right at the quick?

Hi Alison, I have just bought a facial sun block (SPf 30). I was told it could be used as a primer underneath foundation, but what I wanted to ask is, do I put on my normal moisturiser under or over my sun block, or, do I not wear any moisuturiser? Many thanks Alison, Julie

Hi Alison - i have a question about nail care products.
I haven't taken good care of my nails through a period of illness for the last three years- they have worn away to nothing and show no sign of re-growing. I think they may need some extra help to speed up the process of growing them back- would OPI Perfect Partners Nail Envy & Avoplex Duo (217523) be the ideal product? It's had great reviews. I really want them to grow and look like normal nails!

Sarah :)

Hi Alison
Iam a 28 year old new mum (7 weeks) an d have been using the Liz Earle range for about a year. Since having my baby I have quite a few spots on and around the chin and mouth area. Please could you recommend a range or product which would shift these spots.

Thanks Nikki

hi Alison

I really enjoy trying out QVC beauty products - especially the ones in a TSV! Thoroughly enjoy Elemis, Models Prefer and Laura Gellar. Was recently given a present for a day spa which used Dermalogica products and I was just wondering if QVC has plans to present this range in any upcoming shows. Keep up the good work.

my 13 yr old has very high colouring on her cheeks around to her ears he has a tendency to dryness. I have let her use my models prefer yellow powder but she thinks it makes her look yellow. Her answr is to cover her face in bronzer which looks awful. Any ideas?

Dear Alison,
My L`Occitane Reparative after sun balm, which is fantastic, is about to run out. I believe it is discontinued and wondered what you would suggest as being equally good - hopefully!
Thank you in anticipation. Kind regards. Eileen.

Hi Alison,

Im 24 and regularly wax my face which leaves me with spots and scars. I am currently using Alpha H which has improved my skin 80% plus, i was wondering if theres anything else i can incorporate to improve my skin further and prevent any more spots/scars.

RESPONSE TO SHAHIDA:

I have the same problem as your daughter and have even been on anti-biotics for 6 months, i have discovered Alpha H Trilogy resurfacing collection and have using since Feb 08 and have noticed a huge improvement. I still get spots here and there but i would say i have had a 80% plus improvement. I would also recommend decleor progelene gel as i have previously used that and it helps scars fade over time (about 2-6 months).

Hope that helps.

I am currently experiencing a severe bout of shingles which is almost certainly going to leave scarring. To avoid further aggravation I am only using water to wash the affected area.
What would you recommend I use once the healing process begins?

Hi Alison
I recently had my 61st birthday and have become very aware of my neck area. From my ears down to the base of the throat I have pigmented skin, reddish/brown in colour. The skin itself is lumpy and is covered in what looks like spots or blocked pores, but they are hard not conventional type spots. I also have this to a lesser degree on my cheek bones and the top of my nose has very open pores and a reddish look. I have tried, several TSV's Liz Earl, Decleor and recently Clientele, using faithfully but with very little improvement. Any advice you can give would be appreciated. Thank you.

Alison

Hi Alison,
In order to get an even textured skin, I'm planning to start using the Elemis tri-enzyme wash, serum and night cream; papaya peel+exotic mask for 6 weeks. Would it be ok to use the cellular recovery bliss capsules in conjunction with the tri-enzyme products?
Could I use the pro-collagen marine cream&wrinkle smoother and the redness relief cream after the tri-enzyme serum in the morning and keep the tri-enzyme night cream at night?
I'm 41. I have sensitive&dehydrated skin with open pores, mild rosacea and blemishes with few broken capillaries on the cheeks. I'm prone to hormonal and stress related breakouts and congestion around the chin area. My forehead has some expession lines and I have scarring and pigmentation from old electrolysis around the upper mouth.
I've been using the Elemis chamomile cleanser&apricot toner, Decleor rose oil & Elemis redness relief on the cheeks, Decleor neroli oil&balm on the chin, angelique oil on the forehead; Shiseido bio performance advanced super revitaliser and Alpha-H facial spray all over the face.
Many thanks and king regards.

I was wondering what happened to an e-mail I sent to Alison via qliving@qvc.com on the 24th April but I have not received a reply. I have regularly checked my e-mails and also read the responses to questions to Alison posted on your website in the vain hope of finding an answer to my query. Is it just pot luck whether or not I receive a reply or am I looking in the wrong area?

Hi Alison,
I have been using Prostrong Calcium and flouride for some time now. My nails are great, can I use these two products over nail polish? I am concerned that my nails will deteriorate if not.
Thank you,
Sue Thorpe

Dear Alison, I met Lorraine from SBC recently at the Vitality Show at Olympia. She was generous with her time and we talked about the 3 in 1 Cleanser that was ordered but not yet arrived. She said I would be pleased with it and I am, it is so easy to use and really provides a deep cleanse without any trouble. I layer it on, clean my teeth and then wipe it off, Bingo - everything gone, except for a lovely smell and clean skin.
I an a fan of SBC products, like most people I am too busy mid week to do a proper facial, so I pop on a layer of one of the moisturisers while I dry my hair. Easy to do and the results are excellent.

I have always had oily/combination skin and have avoided anything that is too rich, so the SBC formulas suit me perfectly.

I have just ordered the Try Me set, can't wait!
Regards

Sue

Hi Alison,

I wonder if you can help me? 4 mnths ago I had a brain tumour removed and now my hair is very thin/bald where it was shaved, and not growing back evenly, or particularly thickly. I'm not sure if it ever will! I wondered if there is any hair product (perhaps from the Ojon range?) which will encourage thicker hair growth?

Thanks a lot,
Christine

Would you pls recommend a moisturiser for my face? I always used Decleor Vitaroma Lift Total which worked well and I liked the feel of it but I don't think you sell that anymore? I have just turned 60, and am outdoors a lot (with horses!)although I have good skin, not too lined.

Hi Alison

Please help. I am using the Ultra Sun Face 30 (purchased direct from Ultra Sun after hearing you speak of it, looking forward to its debut on QVC!). Have Afro Carribbean skin and I love it (no ashiness or chalkiness) but I just can't get my head around using my Decleor Aromessence after I've applied it. Is this correct or should my Aromessence go on before, then the Ultra Sun Face 30 and then my moisturiser? Will using my Aromessence after the Face 30 render the Aromessence in effective? Would love a definitive answer!

Thanks for your time.

Hi Alison - I have suffered from glandular fever, followed by pre and post natal depression for the past 4 years. There is now light at the end of a very dark tunnel but now my hair is a disaster - it is fine and flyaway with a curl but goes wild in humidity (Chrystaltips eat your hear out). What range do you suggest - I am 41. Please help - as all women know if your hair is wrong it doesnot matter about anything else and I need my hair to improve!! Please Help

Hi Alison

I have been in contact with Ultrasun as I was concerned about using a chemical sunscreen (had hoped Ultrasun would not be a chemical one) they do have one which isn't chemical and suitable for sensitive skin but QVC never advise on this one. I have read so much about how chemical sunscreens work which is why I am concerned although I know the importance of sunscreen.
Their new face suncream is chemical based to (had hope this wouldn't be) I use Liz Earle factor 25 and don't have a problem with the colour (I think I am so pale anyway)
I am not out I the sun for very long - shortest possible time if any and always covered up.
Is factor 25 enough or can you recommend a non chemical sunscreen with a higher factor specifically for very senstive skin?

I bought Ultrasun 28 last year for my father although it arrived too late but now after asking Ultrasun I know for sure it is a chemical based screen :(

Alison,
Do you have any tips for varicous veins.
Much appreciated,
Linda.

Having watched and ordered the TSV, programme on OJON last night can you tell me if they do a product similar to DeCesare Liquifix? we want to use foam twist curlers to give my daughter curls/ringlets for a wedding. Can whatever you suggest be done the night before? thank you Alison for your great knowledge, tips and products that you get QVC to stock, Majella.

Hi Alison,
I have very dark circles under my eyes, I have tried endless concealers but none seem to work, all I seem t do is waste money. They are so bad they look more like bruises. After I have finished applying my makeup for the day I dread looking in a larger mirror and seeing my eyes. Can you help?

i have spotty face and freckles what shali use

im in my 20's and i have been using Liz Earle for 1 month now and have seen a difference but im still getting breakouts on my forehead. Is there anything else i can use???

I have excema and extremely dry scaly skin on my body and my hands look like they belong to an elderly woman!!i've tried so many body creams, butters and oils but nothing gives lasting hydration. I'm using Liz Earles range on my face, which is fantastic but i am 35 and starting to get premature ageing lines around and under my eyes, can you recommend a solution to these problems. I also love Mojave Magic tinted moisturiser but can no longer find it on Qvc-has it been discontinued? If so where else can I get it or can you recommend a very similar product?

Hi,
I am 50 with quite good skin. But last year delevoped a mild case of acne roseaca. The redness is very mild and does not burn or itch, but I get the imflamed spots very quickly if I use a product my skin does not like. My skin is normal and not dry.

Which range would you suggest?

Hi Alison

I have a question for you, especially since you have so much experience within the beauty trade.
My daughter is 22 years old, who waxes her face frequently and after this spots start to appear on her face. She does have sensitive skin and I was wondering if there are products out there to avoid or reduce this from happening?

If you could kindly email me a response I would be much obliged.

Thanks

Kind regards

Shahida

Is there anything you can suggest to help age spots on my hands. The rest of me looks quite youthful, but my hands look old. Im 53. thank you

I have melasma on my face and it is worsened by being outdoors on even a mildly sunny day. I rarely sunbathe and when I do, I wear a SPF30. I want an SPF that I can use everyday as I find the "sunbathing" SPF face creams to be really heavy and greasy. Any suggestions?

Hi Alison,

If I wash my face with the Elemis Tri-enzyme facial wash, can I or do I have to then use an exfoliator?

Thanks

Hi Alison, I am 37 and most of my life suffered from oily/spotty skin, but all of a sudden it went tight, dry and flaky in parts. I wash my face only with water as the facial wash often leaves my skin feeling tight. I moisture morning and night with a well known brand, and this seems to be working to calm things down. However my problem is my skin still looks dull, I try to liven it up with Laura Geller Makeup which is fine in the mornings but by lunchtime looks dull again as if the make up has either slipped off or fallen off. Is there something else I should be trying, as a base for the make up or stop the make up altogether.

I would like to ask Alison Young if she could recommend a shampoo and conditioner. My hair is greying and very spiky and fly away (I am 54 years old). I have tried Aveda Blue malva in the past but not really noticed much improvement.

Thank you.

Pauline

I have recently purchased Fran Wilsons Luxury Lip Glosses and absolutely love the Extravagance colour. Can I get this colour in a lipstick?
