Meet jewellery designer Mischa Sundstad

Mischa Sundstad has been involved in the fashion industry for 20 years, but we know her best as silver jewellery designer on her range Mischa by Design. She was at QVC getting ready for Silver Day on Sunday 23rd March and she spoke to us about Angelina Jolie, design inspiration and funny moments on air...

What sparked your interest in jewellery design?
As a model I travelled the world and was inspired by the things I saw. My first inspiration is fashion, but I became interested in shapes in the natural world, such as unfurling baby ferns and the beauty of raw gemstones. I've used these themes in my jewellery by creating clean, bold designs without heavy embellishments.

If you could design a piece of jewellery for anyone dead or alive who would it be?
Angelina Jolie - she's a funky, worldly mother who used to go against the grain, who has become a humanitarian. She is encouraging us to think of everyone in the world as part of one community and helps to bring cultures together. I would like to create a piece that embodies all these aspects of her and I think she would suit my contemporary designs.

What new spring jewellery looks are you most excited about?
I think my jewellery suits the latest spring fashions, floral prints are big this season and these busy prints look great with clean contemporary jewellery.

What jewellery classics should every woman own?
I own a lot of jewellery, but when I travel I have to select pieces that are versatile. Anything that can be dressed up or down works well, such as big link chains and pieces with enhancers that can be added to take you from day to night. Drop earrings add instant glamour when you wear your hair up and I also like the different takes on hoop earrings that are coming out at the moment.

Have you had any funny moments as a guest on QVC?
I was really ill during my first two shows and had to put on extra blush. I took lots of cold medicine, but the studio is so cold that I still sounded like a snufulufugus. I laughed about it with the presenter though - whenever I'm at QVC I always leave feeling inspired and energised.
