QCam: The Alison Young Signature Ring!

6

Qualified beauty expert, Alison Young, has brought a stunning new ring design to QVC! Watch my video at the bottom of this blog to see the Alison Young Signature Ring sparkling away!

So where did the idea come from? Alison Young reveals all…

After spending a holiday in the South of France and while out in Monte Carlo, and seeing concept design rings in very exclusive jewellers, plus trips to jewellers in Bond Street and Knightsbridge that offered eye-catching, unusual designs, I started to ask the question to our jewellery buying team: ‘had they ever thought of creating a ring like this?’

Naturally, I showed them my idea that I would really love to wear.

For many years I had a conundrum, as I loved wearing both my more modern pieces bought by my husband (which tend to be in silver or platinum), as well as family heirlooms and inherited pieces like my Cartier Russian wedding ring, and a ring I received as a gift for my 30th birthday from my brother – all in rose or yellow gold, as well as some white gold too.

In the past, as you know, I would tend to wear any white metals on my left hand and the yellow and rose golds on my right, but I was intrigued and inspired with these new designs that had not yet become available, where celebrities, in one ring, had mixed both different styles, textures and colours of metal along with different shapes of diamonds.

The resulting ring from this creative process has created a real buzz with jewellery insiders, as well as friends and colleagues that I have shown it to. As demanding as ever, I have managed to request a design on a ring that challenged even QVC’s jewellery expertise as a global retailer.

The reason for this is that it has such new artistry techniques that not many jewellery studios were up-to-date in these cutting-edge techniques and we had over 10 sample rings made from different continents before settling on the final one.

The other challenging aspect of this ring was when there are so many designs within one concept, getting the balance of the rows of diamonds with gold work was tricky but, I hope you will agree, worth it in the end.

New techniques of combining your classic brilliant-cut and baguette-cut diamonds, which are certified in this ring, with bands of white gold, nuggets of yellow gold and prisms of rose gold allows light to dance off all aspects and angles. It is certainly eye catching, I hope you will agree, while being (typical of my standards) very comfortable to wear so that it can be worn all the time on any finger.

Due to the contemporary band construction, this can be worn by both men and women as a wedding or civil partnership band. It also has the high end J backing to give ultimate comfort, and we deliberately kept the waist at the back of the ring in a chunky style, which gives a more modern edge.

Whether worn as an individual statement piece or to solve the quandary of being able to enjoy the modern trend of wearing different metals on the same arm and hand, and being more playful with your individual look, I hope you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed the design process (although a few exasperated sighs were muttered over the last year-and-a-half when I kept saying ‘it’s not quite right!’)

We are very excited to release this new design, and we would love to have your feedback of how you would like to wear it.

Well done Alison this ring is absolutely gorgeous. Im also a whlte metal/platinum wearer on my left hand, however do wear rose and mixed metals on my right hand.
Sadly I cannot afford this in diamond and wondered if you would consider doing this in diamonqiue and Im sure I wont be on my own in requesting this. Im sure it would be equally as fabulous in diamonique and be more affordable to the majority of us.
Its the most beautiful ring Ive seen in ages and looks so top end in quality and styling
Thank you but will await with baited breath to see if a diamonique one can be produced.

I think this ring looks beautiful I wear different metals together all the time and I love the design of this ring well done Alison
Would you need to go up a size on this one and do you think it would suit a shorter finger or is it too wide

I’d like it more if there were fewer claws, I get everything caught on them and have ruined a lot of jumpers, I much prefer a rub over setting. I know Alison says it has a smooth finish but so many claws wouldn’t work for me.
Different coloured metals combined is such a good thing as most of us have this variety in our jewellery box and need linking pieces like this to tie them together so we’re not just faced with a stark choice of wearing one colour or the other. I have tri coloured earrings I bought from QVC many years ago, I bought and still wear them for this very reason.
A smaller more delicate version of this ring with pave and rub over settings would hit the spot for me although I know these are more expensive to produce.
Differing tastes in jewellery are as infinite as the choices we are offered which is wonderful. QVC’s attempts to bring us endless variety are to be applauded and long may they continue to do so.
