What an amazing time we had up at the Medical Detection Dogs HQ this week, including a lovely catch up with little Derek and Lesley who are not so little any more! They are the fabulous clever canines which I sponsored and named (after my late dad and my mum)! Watch below to see what we got up to.
There’s a full round-up of what we did on the day of the puppy party on my charity page blog update here. The event was a thank you to all the girls who came to help at the recent fundraising events. We had a nice tour, lunch, and a look round the cancer detection research lab, where the little dogs are taught how to sniff out urine samples with cancer in. Hence the need for industrial freezers at minus 80! They cost £5000 each and we’ve managed to raise enough for two so far. They need 8, so if you fancy donating, just let the team know here! Anyway thanks to all my lovely ladies who came to help and also to lovely Arianne Poole who was interested enough to drop by.
Arianne and the other girls enjoyed watching a live demo of the cancer detection research training, as did Andie (who runs Get Geller Gorgeous group) who is holding one of my favourites, little rescue spaniel Marlow. Lovely little Marlow is the new puppy who just arrived – he’s so cuddly and adorable – just like Derek and Lesley were when they were little!
The kids who need Medical Alert Dogs were also there – mainly they need the canine companions to help with diabetes, as their own dogs detect when they have high or low blood sugar, since they can’t do it themselves.
It is a blessing for the parents of these children to have peace of mind that their child is being monitored by such a clever animal, changing their lives by detecting changes in their breath. Here’s the outdoor ‘musical chairs/detection dogs’ game we played – can you spot who the big kid with Derek the dog is?
Hehe! I gave up halfway through though, to allow the kids to win! Had to curtail my competitive instinct tho’ – lol. We also heard from mum Serena and her two boys, Charlie and Steven. Steven’s MDD dog is Molly, who stays by him day and night and prevents him going into a coma and has transformed their lives, especially Serena’s, as she used to be up each night testing him every ninety minutes. Here she talks about how Molly can even detect Steven’s blood sugar levels from the sidelines when he is playing a football match!
Seriously, a lovely day was had by all, and an amazing insight into the charity for which all the hard work is paying off. I love going there – it makes me feel grounded and I’m so proud of my team, and that MDD asked me to be an ambassador for them.
NEWS – we are going to arrange some sort of Open Day and Table Top Sale in November – more news later in the year, watch out for it if you live near or can get to Milton Keynes.
Here’s a reminder of why Medical Detection Dogs’ work is so vital and how it all began, including the story of Daisy and how she told founder Dr Claire Guest that she had cancer and got it treated early.
London Early One Morning Went to a super writing workshop at the weekend and had a great meeting about my non-fiction book. Can’t say too much at the moment! Will reveal all soon as I’m able to tho. When I was up in London I was delighted to find a lovely café which does almond milk lattes, very tasty and a great start to what turned out to be a lovely workshop. Writers’ and Artists’ yearbook run them, do have a look if you’re interested in writing, and also take a gander at my Beginner’s Guide on my RiWiSi blog here.
Weekend at home The garden is soooo lovely, as regulars will know, and it was a joy to spend a couple of days at home on my days off, with absolutely NOTHING arranged! Makes a change – I usually pack too much in. What I did do, though, is plant some December potatoes in a patch that got weeded recently. Fingers crossed they come out.
My French beans have been devoured by something and my tomatoes were a bit lacklustre, so I’ve fed them some more Richard Jackson’s Flower Power Plant Food – it really seems to have made a difference. Here’s this week’s garden bouquet – very pretty lilies, mainly.
Sunday Lunch Munch Had a super trip to Riverside Garden Centre and café in Farnham with my lovely girl and her man Nick. Lolly is a delight to be with and we had a nice catch up! Love my daughter!
Video updates Had several this week – I do hope you saw them! Lots of ‘vlogs’ in the woods, whilst dog-walking in the dappled sunshine in my local forest trail, for instance this one. If you click ‘like’ on my official Facebook page you’ll see them come up in your news feed from then on.
I also sneaky peeked the Ego straighteners , (which are at a superb price), with Kala. By the way if you missed out, there’s a set with those same mini straighteners and a little Ego hairdryer (they are the best!) here on our website. (link to 401512). Great for hols, or pressies or spares, and the straightener is fab for short hair or weak hands. The style Kala did for me lasted a couple of days too! See it here.
Mind you, watch out for a new Yogi straightener set coming up soon – with precise temperature adjustment for even hairpiece styling, with my sis Linda as guest. I’ll be announcing that on Facebook too so do ‘like’ page! Also talking of hair if you have thinning hair, I hope you caught the new iGrow helmet for encouraging new hair growth – looks weird but really works, and with a 6 month money back guarantee you know QVC have confidence it’ll live up to its promises.
Web Round Up Similarly, if you subscribe to my website newsletter you also get updates. I often do emails with my news, plus exclusive videos etc. This week, on my homepage newsletter, the Book of the Week is one by Liz Mistry, flying high in the online charts. Plus do click this link to watch the video about one of the most stooopid incidents I’ve done in years! And a look round our lovely Chiswick Park QVC home. Click here!
Bodyblade ‘Virtual’ Games On this week’s Back to You blog, a summary of some amazing TTFLS stories (see also below) and links to super Bodyblade news from our super Facebook group! Click here to read it and see an exclusive video, revealing the stooopidest thing I’ve done in years!
A big Geller weekend! Further to last week’s alert about the new Laura Geller deal, here’s a super write-up by Back to You Beauty blogger Sharon. Her review of Laura’s new Today’s Special Value is here. Congrats to Sharon btw for getting Highly Commended/Runner-Up in the prestigious We are Thirty Plus blog awards too – Fab work.
Don’t miss Laura, with her new amazing value set, this Sunday. I’ll be in Devon seeing pal Alix but I know it’ll go well!
Antthony is back! Also back this weekend is lovely fashionista from LA, Antthony! Catch him Saturday at 4pm, plus 5pm Tuesday, flying in from California sunshine to join in with our Fashion Month! Meanwhile here’s some super bargains from his collection.
XXS Special Our special Facebook Live event on Thursday evening went well, it received over 4,000 viewers and many of the items mentioned sold out! It was a focus on XXS sizing, for our petitest petites. More targeted fashion focusses soon I hope, watch this space. If you missed it, go here and let me know what you thought below!
Facebook Funny This made me laugh, in Fashion month – ‘when ordering the right size online goes bad…’ Hahaaa!
Blooper is of Marie Francoise, with the bumper selection of ‘best bits’ from her CBB cameo into the breaks! Attagirl, she’s not just a Kipling bag expert!
Watch Celebrity Big Brother is back in town, this time with a motley crue of reality show faces amongst other slightly better known A, B and C listers! I do enjoy a bit of human behaviour observation, and this year’s is no exception. If you’re not a fan, maybe just watch the evictions – or the highlights on YouTube, funny! One of my fave moments was big mouth bully boy prankster Bear, who showed up his weak side one night in the Diary room! I know it’s trash telly but it’s quite compelling…
This Week on QVC – On Sunday we’re bringing you Laura Geller ‘For the Love of Chocolate’ set – go here to see Laura on Q Community, talking about her career and the new TSV (plus see above.) If you can’t wait, go get it now, using this Early Bird Order link.

On Monday it’s the turn of Lee Hohbein with a super new Acer two-in-one tablet.
Later in the week, here’s a sneaky peek of the Together Waistcoat Today’s Special Value on Thursday
And a little bonus sneaky peek just sliding in – Decleor’s new ultimate anti-ageing collection with a choice of either hydrafloral or aurabsolu – I’m looking forward to bringing you this one too on Saturday 20th August!
Sneaky Peek there’s a new Dyson TSV on NEXT weekend – I’m going to their flagship store in Oxford St on Friday afternoon, ready for the Saturday night launch of the top of the range, best yet animal cordless vac, the V8, no less! …
Next week A lovely two days in Devon (that’s where I’m going on another short break) plus my first proper barbecue at home, this Saturday, with my kids. Have a fab week!
PS Below is another selection of super testimonials from one of my Facebook groups, tying in with my Freedom Eating system of weight loss, as described in my book ‘Till the Fat Lady Slims’.
Going into the shop
Picking up the size 14
Trying it on
Zipping it up
Taking it to the till
Walking out smiling!
I have been using slimming world in conjunction with freedom eating. The freedom eating has helped me when I have felt that I can’t go on by giving me the confidence to listen to my body and not feel guilty if I fall off target every now and then. So therefore Debbie I think I am mostly in the Linda camp.
Yay another 4lbs off in July, just another 3 to go too reach my personal target. Feeling confident now that I am going to get there .
Thank you for giving me the confidence to do it you are a star xx
Fabulous news isn’t it, from another lady who is finding the support from TTFLS and Freedom Eating is really helping her on her weight loss journey. I say to anyone who wants to give it a try, to read up on ‘Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – the ‘When’ Diet’ book which is like the one which sold out in signed hardback on QVC last year. Plus book 3.0 with more tips and tales to inspire. The whole story and links are here on my webpage.
