Clare Sutton-Good but I don’t love Pavlova and I didn’t like the way she kept touching her hair and then the food.
Craig-came a very close second!Lots of lovely spice and homemade custard, yum! I love Apple crumble, but I always peel my apples!
WINNER: Kathy Taylor, I just cannot resist steamed sponge pudding-Gorgeous!

Surprised Claire’s Pavlova rose as it was very runny! My meringue is always stiff with peaks – her end result fine though. Pavlova called after Anna Pavlova the ballet dancer.

It has to be Claire’s Pavolova, light, fresh, summery & fruity. I am not keen on stodgy, traditional puddings. She needs to post her recipe on her blog to give her the fairest chance of competing against the others!!!

  19. Gill Tate March 19, 2010 at 8:40 am -  Reply

Craig’s Apple Crumble is the winner for me. I love Apple Crumble but the spices and Almond and Vanilla essences in Craig’s recipe make this extra special. Can’t wait to make it myself!

Oh dear its so difficult–they are all so different but as Debbies is so totally new to me I think I must go with hers though I love the way Craig makes his crumble and Kathy’s treacle sponge is so easy and Clare’s pavlova is so decandent. You are all such good demonstrators which makes it just wonderful for us to watch (glad that even YOU make mistakes and they weren’t airbrushed out) Now I’m off to the shops to get the ingredients for all three and have a weekend of cooking.

  22. gina March 19, 2010 at 10:22 am -  Reply

Debbies the one for me, so so so naughty but so nice, pure indulgence, and guilt, thats my kind of pudding.

  25. Christine Curry March 19, 2010 at 11:04 am -  Reply

I have made many pavlovas and crumble is a family favourite. Cornflour is a useful addition to pavlova and I always add oats and chopped nuts to my crumble. They all looked delicious but my vote would have to be split between Kathy and Debbie; and for a regular treat I think it would probably be Kathy’s pud.

Kathy’s pudding is the winner for me. She demonstrated skill, seemed very happy in the kitchen and offered alternatives. Debbie comes a close second; I don’t think apples develop enough flavour unless they’re cooked first, sorry Craig and I love Claire but not her pavlova….sorry again!

  30. Lesley March 19, 2010 at 1:35 pm -  Reply

Ooh … Craig tips it for me … great presentation too well done !! But Kathys also looks yummy too .. so she’s pipped to second.. but I will definately try out both receipes…
Love pavolova and Clare did a good job – but a bit basic .. and Debbie’s made me feel sickly just looking at it never mind eating it .. !!! (sorry Debs)

For me Craig’s is a sure winner, could almost smell those lovely spices as I watched him make this fabulous Apple crumble and popping the spice, then almond and vanilla flavouring into the crumble mix as well sounds so so yummy. I usually just pop Cinnamon onto the apples, but this sounds so much better. I’ll be trying his recipe without a doubt. Well done Chef Craig.

Easy decision to make! Has to be craigs apple crumble! Kathys and Debbies just looked too sweet for me – a spoonful would have been enough. I would have definitely wanted a spoonful of each to try though! Claires pavlova came second.

Hard to separate Craigs apple crumble and Kathy`s syrup sponge, both with lovely custard. Sorry Debbie, but your dessert far toooo sickly. Claire`s came third for me. I think Craig`s slightly more healthy, so is my winner.

Well Done Cathy! – An old favourite that I remember my Grandmother baking, and good, holesome, home cooking, with none of the rubbish that you get from shop bought ones, and the smell as its baking/steaming – mmmmmmmmmm – My kids still love this one, even though they are all over 20 – when Mam bakes, they all seem to come home?? Strange?? Anywat – You have my vote Cathy.

Kathy’s pudding, yummy, relatively healthy, and AVOIDS ingredients that contain nuts, so wont threaten life of son (EpiPen injectors and screaming ambulance to hospital not a good way to end a meal). I have wondered how to make a steam pudding. Yum.

I first of all must complain about the producer of these videos. Why did you add “music?”.That noise was unbearable!I would have much preferred to listen to the presenter and perhaps catch all she/he had to say.
#1 Was CRAIG.I could almost taste it.
#2 Goes to CLAIRE.She was brave but should have worn a chef’s hat.
#3 Of course belongs to KATHY.It looked absolutely wonderful but too many calories!
#4 Goes to DEBBIE, not because it wasn’t good, but just a case of personal preference.I am sure I would have enjoyed it.
N.B. KATHY you must be very relaxed in the kitchen as the words just flowed effortlessly.WELL DONE.A111!

Definitely Craigs’ Apple Crumble (but I always use Bramley cooking apples) but I would leave out custard – I don’t like it, and second Clares’ Pavlova. I cannot give an unbiased comment on Kathys’ syrup pudding as I cannot stand golden syrup and as for Debbies’ recipe, well I felt quite nauseous just watching the video. Sorry Debbie.

They were all wonderful and it would be great if you could give them all a first but for me it has to be Kathy. She was so professional and at ease it was a wonderful demonstration and the end result looked fantastic. Syrup sponge was a great favourite in our house when I was young, and that wasn’t yesterday. Mum used to make them in individual pyrex dishes!! Craig’s would be second, another childhood favourite and the custard looked fab. I would love to taste Debbie’s as I have a very sweet tooth!!

I loved both Craig and Kathy’s recipes but it has to be Craig as the winner.

Got to be the crumble but all four presenters were fab and had me chuckling after a bad day at work. Have tried all the recipes. Yummy. X

Debbie – yours looked gorgeous and mouth watering and if I ever want to be really bad I will make!!
Claire – you made me giggle and I did wonder if it would make it onto that plate.
Craig and Kathy – a really hard call both great traditional deserts but I will have to vote for …..Kathy!!
You seem like such a great and natural cook and your desert looked yummy!
