My pilates – week 1

Well, I finally got going and wow…..I’m outa shape!

Marjolein Brugman has been (virtually) guiding me through the beginners workout. It takes about 25 minutes, but I’m sure that as I get used to the routine it will be about 20 minutes per session. I’m shocked at how little core strength I have, having considered myself reasonably fit, but I can already feel things beginning to change.

I include a screen shot of the routine so you can see that actually you do a huge range of exercise in a very short time. By the way, I’m not really moving all that fast but the photos make me look like I’m really motoring.

GOPR4773GOPR4770GOPR4750With Marjolein’s voice in my ears, I’m really trying to adopt the right form and position and get my breathing right – which I have to say is taking a bit of getting used to. The hard ones for me are the Elephant (which I knew it would be, cos of tight hamstrings) and Lying Arms in Straps (because my core is getting tired by then).

The most amazing thing is you feel energised and somewhat Cheshire-cat-like when you have finished, and the best thing of all is that I feel as though I can fit this in to my hectic schedule and won’t find excuses for not doing it.

I’ll keep you posted.
