Having been on air with our special guest Tony Limrick and talked at some length about PCs and how they slow down and develop problems over the years, I decided it was time to do something about my wife’s work laptop.
It had been taking progressively longer and longer to either switch on or switch off and had developed some weird behaviour. The latest was continually trying to install Windows updates (and not being successful in doing so).
My chat with Tony got me interested in WinCleaner OneClick PC registry cleaner and optimiser for two users, (see picture above) as it seemed to be the right thing for me and easy to use. I was keen to see how well it worked and so got hold of one and within a few hours of receiving it had installed it on my wife’s laptop.
Now I’m always a bit wary of 'helping' my wife out, as if I make a pig's Michael out of it, I would never hear the end of it, but Tony gave me assurances that it was plain sailing! The software was dead easy to install and immediately set about scanning the disc to check for errors. I was shocked by the results!
We had 13,756 errors and 1.75GB of clutter. Most of the problems were being caused by internet clutter, which I expected, but we had broken shortcuts, programs that didn’t work and some registry issues. It took a few hours to go through everything and another few hours to fix things, but, it was worth waiting for!
The laptop now switches on and off with minimum delay, the Windows updates have installed and it no longer prompts us to install them every time the machine is switched on. The machine seems to be a bit quicker than before and certainly is running well in the subsequent few days since the PC M.O.T. was carried out.
Tony’s advice was bang on and my wife is delighted… result!!
