Can you believe this is my fifth year at QVC? No, nor can I – it’s definitely true that time flies when you’re having fun. Both Chloe Everton and I joined the company as presenters in 2012, and QVC very kindly likes to celebrate staff milestones, so last week we both joined a group of others from the ‘Class of 2012’ for a lovely dinner at a riverside restaurant in Richmond.
I popped round to Chloe’s house on the way (for a small aperitif!) and had a cuddle with her gorgeous dog Teddy (he’s a licky kind of dog – see photo!). We had a lovely evening. I feel very lucky to work for such a great company, and with such wonderful people. Roll on our ten year dinner!
I’m feeling somewhat better now than I did when I wrote my last blog as the steroid injections I had in my lower spine two weeks ago have started to kick in. The pain I was having down my leg which woke me up every night has eased, so I’m sleeping better which in turn makes everything easier! The pain in my lower back is about sixty per cent better too, and apparently the injections take up to three weeks to take full effect so I’m hoping for further improvement. The idea of this temporary pain relief is to give me a ‘window of opportunity’ to have lots of therapy and do lots of back strengthening exercises which should hopefully leave me in better shape when the effects of the injections wear off.
So far I’ve had one hydrotherapy session (which I didn’t really enjoy, and didn’t feel really helped me much), ongoing physiotherapy (which is brilliant – my physiotherapist is fabulous) and am having some one-to-one Pilates lessons so I can learn the best exercises to protect and strengthen my back muscles. I bought an AeroPilates reformer machine a while back, and I’m so glad to have it now. I haven’t needed any time at all off work, which is great – I’ve been managing to fit all the treatment and therapy into my days off, and work has been perfectly manageable with painkillers.
When I look back to last summer though, I find it amazing that I was doing up to two marathons a week as training for my 100km event. I miss it so much, but I’m trying to get this into perspective – it’s just a bad back after all, and so many people are dealing with conditions and illnesses which are so much worse. Onwards!
For the benefit of my back I’m trying to wear flat shoes as much as possible now (when I’m not at work, or going out, obviously!) so I’ve treated myself to some new funky trainers and flats. And when I was sorting out all my shoes, it struck me what a huge number of Clarks shoes and boots have crept into my wardrobe over the past couple of years. I took a couple of photos – eek! And that’s not even all of them. This brand has gone from strength to strength over the years – we often get styles at QVC that you can’t easily find in the shops, so do check it out on our website.
See you soon!
