Sleep in cotton
Create a perfect refreshing sanctuary in your bedroom with luxurious Egyptian cotton bed linen. Egyptian cotton is lighter in weight and breathable which will help keep you cooler on those summer nights. Choose light colours like white, soft pinks, refreshing blues to lighten up your room and make it feel fresh and cooling to climb into bed. Take a look at this lovely Northern Nights Secret Garden Egyptian cotton duvet set with a 400 thread count plus a new luxurious 600 thread count Egyptian Cotton set.
Invest in a good quality 100% cotton or Egyptian cotton sheet set and lightweight cotton bed covers, such as this Northern Nights bedcover (pictured below), this will enable to you to remove or add layers if feeling too hot or cool in the night.
Invest in a great fan for your bedroom
The Dyson AM05 Nickel Hot & Cool Bladeless Fan Heater is the perfect choice as it will keep you cool in the summer and then can be used as a heater in the winter.
Try these natural sleep products
I can’t get enough of the This Works Pillow spray – invest in the This Works 3 Piece Sleep Works Collection (pictured below right) to combine the pillow spray with a soothing balm and a deep stress spray for when you need a little extra help after a long stressful day.

Eat spicy food for dinner
Although this may be the last thing you fancy in hot weather, curries and chillies can stimulate heat receptors in the mouth; help enhance circulation and cause sweating, which cools the body down.
Avoid alcohol in the evening
Alcohol dehydrates the body. You are better off with mineral water or low-sugar fizzy drinks. Also, avoid drinks with caffeine such as coffee and colas. These increase the metabolic heat in the body.
Take a very cold bath before bedtime
This will cool your body temperature right down and allow you to relax – add in your favourite bath salts for added luxury!
Replace your usual body moisturiser with a cooling aloe vera aftersun product to use morning and night. This will help lower your skin temperature. This SBC skincare gel (pictured above left) is a great option.
Invest in a temperature regulating topper
Temperature regulation is the most underestimated ingredient for a good night’s sleep. The Magniflex 3 in 1 All Seasons Memory Foam Topper with Outlast ( launching as a Today’s Special Value offer on 7th July) offers the perfect microclimate for every season. This mattress topper is made of two separate components zipped together which you can use individually or combined, creating outstanding levels of comfort and support. One side is made from natural wool from New Zealand, and on the other Proactive Heat and Moisture Management thanks to Outlast(R) Space Technology and Magniflex Memory Fresh. No more hot summer nights, so it’s always the perfect temperature, preventing perspiration.

Create a dark haven
Invest in black-out curtains to help you doze off on those summer nights when it’s still light outside and to prevent you waking with the birds at dawn!
Leave the window open at night
Leaving a window open at night allows fresh air to circulate and also prevent it from feeling too stuffy and heavy.
Make sure you always keep a glass of water for when you wake up in the night – keeping hydrated is crucial for regulating body temperature and stops you feel groggy first thing too.
Change your duvet for a summer duvet
Investing in a summer weight duvet ensures you will feel cosy at night but not too warm – the Northern Nights Cozyloft Down Blend Vented Summer Weight Duvet launches this month, and is the perfect option!
Go to sleep when you’re really tired
For those hot nights when you really can’t stand the heat the best thing to do is to wait until you’re really tired before hitting the hay – there’s nothing worse than tossing and turning trying to get to sleep – this will only make you more frustrated… so read a book, listen to music and then go to bed when you can barely keep your eyes open!
Here’s wishing you all a relaxed and cool sleep this season!
