Yesterday, Chris and I celebrated our 39th anniversary of living together – so we have now entered our 40th year. I’m looking forward to some rubies next January… maybe mixed with a few diamonds. Only joking. I actually already have a ruby and diamond ring that Chris bought me for Valentine’s Day nearly thirty years ago, which I wear every day so I don’t really need another one.
I had been very busy writing most of the week (more about that later) so had to dash out at around 5pm on Wednesday to get a card and a few treats for ‘him indoors’. I’ve mentioned before that Chris is very fond of cheese, red wine and coffee so the local supermarket was where I headed for vintage cheddar and some crackers, a bottle of malbec (aptly named Santa Julia) and (instead of coffee pods, which we were okay for) some soap.
Don’t laugh. I don’t use bars of soap so there is rarely any in the house, but Chris loves it. I treated him to a multi pack of Imperial Leather – you should have seen his face!
He bought me these beautiful flowers and an illuminated star ornament, pictured above, to match with the chair in my new writing room in the attic.
It’s just as well it is such a lovely room to be in, as I have spent in excess of 24 hours in there since last Saturday. This was the view from my skylight window on Tuesday – stunning blue skies, but oh so cold!
My aim was to write 10,000 words of my next novel, but I fell slightly short at 8,500 words. I’m pretty pleased with that though, as I spent most of Monday travelling up to London for blood tests prior to one of my three monthly CML check-ups next week.
As an aside – my normal blood nurse was on holiday, and I wasn’t very impressed with his replacement. This was my arm three days (and several applications of arnica gel) later. Alex barely leaves a scratch.
Now I understand why people freak out about blood tests, they don’t have Alex!
What’s the saying? ‘You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone’ – thank goodness he is coming back.

I wonder if any of you bought yesterday’s Nutri Ninja Today’s Special Value? I had been loaned a sample to practice with, as Debs Flint and I were supposed to be doing a Facebook smoothie challenge yesterday, and I had never used one before.
The challenge was cancelled at the last minute but, as a result of my practice run, which Chris filmed, I ended up buying myself one.
No prizes for guessing the colour I went for. If you did buy it, try my smoothie recipe from the video (change quantities to suit your personal taste), and let me know what you think.
This coming weekend it’s Beauty Day x 2.
Saturday we have a Perricone Today’s Special Value – I’m not actually on air, but instead will be recording some pieces for The Beauty Channel with Leigh from Tarte. Then on Sunday it is the first IT cosmetics Today’s Special Value (aka the brand that launched with sell-out shows).
I’m presenting the 11am show and I’m also on at 2pm with Molton Brown. Watch out for five premiere shows over the weekend too:
Monday is the start of Diamonique Week. It kicks off with a Michelle Mone Today’s Special Value (pictured left) at midnight Sunday into Monday, but technically the grand opening is a two hour show at 5pm with myself and Anne Dawson. Knowing the popularity of Michell Mone jewellery, we may well be on to One Time Only’s by then so I hope you will join us.
Incidentally, the Grand Finale is also at 5pm which means there will be no Fashion on Friday next week. Instead, I will be presenting The Morning Show with Craig Rowe – a bit of a rarity for me.
There are also two fashion Today’s Special Values this coming week – Antthony Designs on Wednesday, my show with him is at 3pm, and Anybody loungewear on Friday.
Check our website for details nearer the time if you like to order early.
Speaking of early, I’m doing the Lunchtime Show today so must dash.
Have a great weekend,
