Well I think it's fair to say autumn is on the way. A dimmer switch has turned down the evening light all of a sudden! I like to accompany my weekly blog with a photo or two. I tend to use the camera on my smart phone, as it's with me the whole time, then I email it to work. Unfortunately, no pictures this week because the phone had an unexpected accident!

I arrived back at home on the Isle of Wight, having had a lovely journey down the A3 (going through the new tunnel at the Devils Punch Bowl for the first time. It's around a mile long and saves so much time!) Hopped on the ferry and arrived home in good time. We unloaded the car and that's when a little panic set in… Where's the phone!??

We searched the car – high and low. The amount of rubbish we found under the car seats filled a carrier bag immediately! No phone to be found, but I knew I had it in the car as I checked it just before getting off the ferry. We emptied suit cases, rucksacks, car door side pockets and the glove box as well. But still, no phone.

I looked at the rubbish I'd collected from the car and I realised there was one place I hadn't checked. The kitchen bin! When we arrived I'd popped a few things in the bin from the car. I headed to the kitchen and lifted the bin lid, and there was the phone, but not the phone of five minutes ago. My phone was covered from top to toe in custard!

I fished the phone out. It was typical; the custard had missed everything in the bin other than my phone. My phone had become a magnet to custard! The custard was slimy and watery so when I took the phone apart to give it a clean it had reached all of the electrics as well as the sim card, memory card and battery. The custard even made its way behind the screen! You won't be surprised to hear the phone doesn't work!

Hopefully it's covered by my insurance!

On a non-custard note I'm looking after Gem Day this Sunday (11th September) with some fabulous evening shows including Hubei Turquoise, Morganite and South Sea Pearls at 9pm.

Hope you can join me, take care and see you soon

Charlie x

Ps. I never want to see custard again 🙂

Hi Charlie, I hope youve got the phone situation sorted by now, isnt it funny how these blinding flashes come to us when we have just about given up when we lose something.I was doing my pre-Christmas cleaning, its an old house with walk in cupboards and I was doing two at the same time, one we use for winter coats, the other is for linens so not much to get mixed up,but I got into a real gudle. When I had managed to bring some order to the mess I had made I suddenly knew something was wrong, my gold ring was gone and it was really tight,I wore it on my middle finger and I thought I would have to get it cut off but it had gone without help.I am still looking nearly a year later, every now and again I get the urge to go and turn out some drawers or just move things around between the space I was working in because I know it must be in the area, it was a very special ring that cannot be replaced, I get very down about it at times,Joe has spent Gem Day asking me to choose something but I know I am going to find it and I will just slip it on my finger,I hope.It would be like taking a weight off me,I’m sure on of these days it will happen,I might find it in the darkest corner, then I’ll have my custard moment just like you.
Well you did say no one read your blog, this is proof we do,just think lucky thoughts for me and I’ll wish you a new phone.
Keep well Charlie, Ali Keenan mentions you very kindly when she is recounting her days to us,she is very touched by the QVC group who have rallied round, she is such a brave soul and a lovely person.
Bless all the group who have stood by her,
Best wishes to the Brooks Family,

Hi Charlie, I just wanted to let you know how much Nina and myself appreciated receiving your phone call just recently. It was very kind and thoughtful of you to think of us and the tragedy we’ve endured in recent years. Some good news though was that Nina received an appointment for the hospital for tomorrow (14.09.2011) for a preliminary medical and then she should be admitted as a day patient for the necessary keyhole surgery, after which she should be able to carry a baby to the full term of 9 months. Delivery will have to be by caesarian, obviously but as long as the final result ends with her holding a beautiful baby, nothing else matters. I will keep you informed of any forthcoming developments!!!Thanks again-love Janet x P.S I must just add that my favourite ever food has always been bananas & CUSTARD!!

Hello! Thanks very much for your replies this week. Marg, I hope you find that ring soon! In my experience it will be in the most random of places (have you checked the cuttlery drawer?)

Hello Linda! I’m all beautified (if that’s a word?) from my shows over the weekend… Thank you for watching! x
