One Hundred Lengths of the Pool

Flowers in Julia's garden Well I'm back and as you can see I have brought the sunshine back with me. Apparently the temperature in the UK today is as hot as Spain – it will help with my rehabilitation!

I took these floral pictures yesterday as I didn't think there would be any flowers still in bloom here – I was wrong, my geraniums have gone bonkers!

I planted the tubs, there are four of them in total, in between swimming one hundred lengths of the pool and writing 'One Hundred Lengths of the Pool'.

Yes, as so many of you guessed, my 'secret' is that I have finally got down to some serious book writing and I'm pleased to say that I completed fifty chapters while I was away.

The book is based on an idea I had when I was in Spain a couple of months ago and has little to do with swimming as I'm sure you're pleased to hear!

To stop me from getting bored as I swim, I associate different 'events' in my life with the number of each length of the pool and as I swam the idea for the book just developed. I suppose it's a kind of autobiography but with a twist as it's not in chronological order.

I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of October and I promise you guys will be the first to know when it is, and first in line for signed copies if any of you would be interested?

Speak again in a couple of days,
Julia x

Glad you had a good break – well a working break and glad that you have finished your book, I have certainly missed you presenting on QVC, its just not the same without you.
I would be interested in a signed copy and maybe a QVC edition with a photo etc??

    Hi Julia
So my guess was right and please put me down for a copy also.
Can’t believe I have had to fish out my summer clothes again and you can keep your tan topped up now you are back.
Bourgy and Hibiscus remind so much of the warm days and nights in the Med. I have not been able to visit my friends in Greece this year due to some serious renovations on an old property they have bought so am having withdrawal symptons.
Maybe after all these years of being a QVC shopper (yes I rememember the old days of Debs, Paul Lavers etc) I will pluck up the courage to ring through and speak to you personally.
    Great to have you back!
    Love Joy x

    Hi Julia,
Glad you had a good rest and lovely weather which you have brought back with you well done. Wow you must be fit to do all those lengths swimming. And I thought your surprise might have something to do with a book, as you have said before that you are off to Spain for some quite to do some writing. Put me down for a signed copy please. Your flowers look gorgeous, lovely colours. You asked me how much we had made when we worked our Labradors in a Gundog Working Test for Help the Hereos recently, well they made £1125.00 and I believe they made about £600.00 on top of that by selling some of their goods. They deserve all the help they can get as they are all so brave.

    Hi Julia
Well done! Sounds quite interesting, associating things and events that have happened with each length you swim…quite a novel way to do it, pardon the pun! Is that the title ‘One Hundred Lengths of the Pool’?
Would definitely be interested in your book and possibly signed too!
Will be nice to see you back…very strange not having you there for a while.

I was right – about your secret(not the film title!!),i just knew it would be your book but did fear you might be departing for pastures new(thanks for the reassurance in your last blog message to mex- you would be so missedx). What an achievement to have written fifty chapters – congratulations,i bet you experienced all the different emotions whilst revisiting your lifetime(up till now).I’m really looking forward to the “birthday weekend” – can you believe its been 18 years? As i have said before i’ll definitely be buying the Leighton Denny TSV and a few other things as i believe we are being treated to four easi-pays for on air items all weekend(i could be wrong there and it could be on selected items) all good whichever. I realise now that the Nails inc TSV is on the 17 Oct not the 14th as i said previously – i’ll be buying that one too – have you seen/tried the magnetic polishes? i’ve got all three, gold, gunmetal and purple and they are brilliant – you basically paint a thin first coat and dont use the magnet then a slightly thicker second coat and use the magnet immediately to create a really funky special effect – so unusual – i wonder whats next in the nail world eh!! I know what you mean re the flowers/plants continuing to blossom – i dont think we really have defined seasons now(all i imagine due to the dreaded global warming) my garden looks better now than it did in early summer – crazy. Look after yourself Julia, i’m really looking forward to reading your book and hope – one day – to be able to say hello in person. Speak on your next blogx Love Lindax

hi Julia, hope you are enjoying the weather, its fab, you got a great colour whilst you were away, your legs were the centre of attention ,in our hotel last night, so much so one of the gents asked the barmaid if it were possible to remove the white square that qvc have on the screen , for displaying their phone number and contact details, they seemed to think it was removable, as it was interupting their view of your legs when you were showing off the clarks shoes, you probably dont realise when you are driving these helpless men into chaos, you were holding up a shoe and bending back its sole to demonstrate its flexibility when one of the gents, announced to his buddies (its amazing how men think ! ) that he ” would nt mind being put over her knee and getting a few wallops with a clarks shoe” it certainly livened up the evening for all , great to see you are back Julia, hope you enjoyed your hols, let us know when your book is in the shops wont you.

    Hi Julia,
Just watched the start of the Saturday night Strictly show and loved Aliona and Harry! Aliona’s gorgeous with her stunning hair and Harry and her had a fab time to that song. I have to say Lulu – oh dear lol! Completely lost her feet! Brendan was lovely about it though – didn’t think they would have a good relationship after her awful reaction to his being her partner!! I did love Anita, Dan, Holly and lol Russell!!
Hope you have a nice B&W show – not my thing as I’ve said before but no doubt everyone will love it.
Oh and by the way…never mind your sun ending on Tuesday – we’ve (NI and Sctoland) have had rain, cold and grey skies all weekend! You should try our weather lol!

Hi Julia well done on completing 50 chapters of your book I cant wait to read it. A friend completed her book in June it covers her mothers life from her early days in Liverpool to her end after being diagnosed with Alzheimers. It has been written with great humour and makes you laugh out loud in parts it is for sale via kindle and called a Nice Cuppa Tea by Roz Tranfield. It is an excellent read as I am sure your book will be. I think it is not only hard to write a book but even harder to promote it. Put me down for a signed copy. Can’t believe that after all the lovely weather we’ve been having, it’s absolutely chucking it down here at the moment.
I managed to get the Decleor Prolagene set which arrived yesterday, so I’m now stocked up and after watching your show and realising you can mix it with other brands, I tried it with Lulu’s Eye Cream. I have puffy eyes and some creams make them worse, so I mixed a drop with Lulu’s cream and applied and WOW, it has really helped, you can feel it working, tightening the skin whilst leaving it smooth and my eyes feel more open, if that makes sense?
Can’t believe that it’s a year on Friday by the day, Saturday by the date since I broke my ankle. I’ve already bought the WinterTrax in readiness LOL!

    Hi Annette
I can’t believe it’s a year since you broke your ankle either – NOT an anniversary to celebrate! At times it must have seemed so much longer than a year! Glad to hear you have your Wintertrax in readiness – I have mine too!
I am really wanting to get my book finished now – time is the only constraint as the planning is all finished. It’s amazing how long it takes to get what’s in your head down ‘onto paper’- am actually doing it on the computer, so much easier, even for a technophobe like me! You’ll have to let me know if there are any other similarities!!
Glad you are having good results with Prolagene already. I have Sophie using it just now as she has just had an operation and it is said to be good for scarring.

    Hi Julia
Hope you enjoyed the wedding. I was under strict instructions from Chris not to go out on Friday at any cost, just in case!
I much prefer using the computer when writing too, you can sit there for ages with pen and paper, its far easier. Good luck with the rest of the book, sounds like you’re on a roll!
Hope Sophie is OK, give her my best, not the nicest of things operations. It was your suggestion of prolagene gel for scaring that got me started and mixing it with systeme corps, hope it works for her too! I know the last time the GP looked at my ankle she said the scars had healed very well indeed. Nearly forgot, managed to get my Bearpaw boots on for the first time, so snuggly and soft around my ankle…the last time I tried my foot wouldn’t point enough down the leg of the boot. Pilates ‘heels’ definitely working!

    Hi Julia,
Yes Lulu did better this week lol. She said she got carried away in week 1! And has a problem remembering the steps. I am so pleased Harry and Aliona, Anita, Holly and Jason all did so well again! They were my favs in week 1. Hard to remember all of them when there’s so many though lol. And Russell was soo sweet with his speech about Robbie and also Flavia. Sweet man.
Oh and I thought you’d be joking about moving worries. I had to move away for work once too and I didn’t enjoy it. Funny as I loved living in America! Some of my famiy have always had to be on the move (that sounds wrong doesn’t it!) and that’s been hard for them. I do feel for those families who have to do that.
On a BCC note – LOVED Ali’s look and speech. Amazing lady. Can’t wait for Wed.

I think that was very sound advice from Chris!! Glad you can now get into your bearpaw boots – I haven’t tried them yet, still into my Emu’s, but they do look very snuggly.
Sophie is doing OK – she had to have her appendix removed in a bit of a hurry!!! She was supposed to be off work for 4 weeks but she would only sign off for 2 as she knew she would be going ‘stir crazy’ – she has a great work ethic.
Writing on the computer is so much easier – making corrections and changes without loads of scribbling out. Have managed another few chapters since hols so on course to finish by the end of November ………. very exciting.
