I’ve just celebrated my birthday this week and it was one of those years that was particularly special. Not because of any number or reason, it just was magical in every way! I think as we get older, some years are just “another year” however, this one was perfect and relaxed, and I felt very lucky and loved.
The children woke me up with a steaming cup of tea and some lovely gifts, one of which was a book that I have wanted for a while so as they got ready for school and made my surprise cooked breakfast, I sat in bed reading, oh it was SUCH a treat!
I then went downstairs to find the table and kitchen all decorated and a delicious cooked breakfast waiting for me and that pretty much set the tone for a day in which I was spoiled rotten.
After the children went to school, I went for a ride …. my guilty pleasure! Then Brian and I went for lunch nearby at a beautiful pub which is a small restored castle on Edgehill overlooking the most exquisite view (which by the way hides Europe’s largest munition storage site!)
This spot marks The Battle of Edgehill which was the first pitched battle of the English Civil War in October 1642. Apparently it was the longest battle during the civil war and lasted 3 days!!! They say it is Europe’s most haunted battlefield too … eek.
We finished the day with lamb chops and a rather warm and fuzzy feeling …plus bjillions of Facebook and Twitter messages which were an added sprinkle of delight to end my day so thank you so much for those. I’m always surprised by how generous you are with your kind wishes!
So, birthdays are now all done and dusted which means we move into thinking about Christmas! The tree is up and I have marked the first present under the tree as one for you to win.
Yes, this wonderful collection of tarte lipsticks, lip glosses, cheek colours, mascara, uber glitzy eyelash curlers and all sorts packed together in the jazzy Christmas box is for one of you if you can tell me how long the battle of Edgehill lasted for in 1642.
A – 3 hours
B – 3 days
C – 3 years
